The Freedom Wars release date on Vita is October 28 in North America and October 29 in Europe, Sony announced Tuesday.
The SCE Japan Studios title, made in collaboration with Shift and Dimps, is set 100,000 years in the future at which point deteriorating conditions mean humans can only survive inside purpose-built facilities known as Panopticons.
Players are cast as customizable prisoners tasked with protecting Panopticons from mutants on the surface world. By working together to take down 'Abductors' and rescue innocents, prisoners can slowly work off their sentences - starting from 1,000,000 years.
Freedom Wars will cost $29.99/£24.99. Pre-ordering the game from retail will unlock four free pieces of DLC: the Formal Wear limited-edition costume, upgraded starter weapons, a Medical Supply combat pack and an in-game 'sticker set'.
Customers who purchase the game on PlayStation Store before November 11 will also receive the pre-order bonus items.
The game launched in Japan in late June and topped the software chart for weeks running.
SCE Japan Studio producer Junichi Yoshizawa has said that Freedom Wars shows Japanese developers' mastery of Vita.
"Freedom Wars is a title I created to realize a dream of mine. My vision was to develop a PS Vita game that took advantage of the handheld system's unique features, enabling gamers to come together via ad-hoc and Wi-Fi to overcome terrifying enemies," Yoshizawa said.
