The Pokemon Company has announced a new arcade fighting game called Pokken Tournament.
In development at Bandai Namco under the leadership of Tekken series director Katushiro Harada and SoulCalibur series main programmer Masaaki Hoshino, it's set for release in Japan in 2015, Gematsu reports.
The debut trailer shows Lucario and Machamp battling in a field. It bills the game as "a new collaboration from Pokemon and Tekken."
The title was first teased at the Pokemon Games Show held in Japan in 2013, when a brief clip showing what appeared to be a Pokemon fighting game was shown. The name Pokken Fighters was later registered as a trademark by The Pokemon Company, which is affiliated with Nintendo.
Plans to launch the game in the west, or for a potential console release, haven't been announced. We've reached out to Bandai Namco and Nintendo for further information.
