Vivendi: no comment on latest Half-Life 2 slip fears

Following internet speculation that Half-Life 2 has been hit by yet further delays, Vivendi Universal has refused to comment on the latest band of rumours, saying that developer Valve is still targeting a "Summer release."

Recent news reports have suggested that while the game was due to be delivered to Vivendi in the next few weeks, finished retail code would not actually be unleashed onto its audience until Autumn this year, a little later than the widely-believed Summer launch.

However, when we contacted Vivendi direct, a spokesperson told us: "We will not comment on this speculation. Valve Software is aiming for a Summer launch, and we won't release an exact date until the game has gone gold."

So there you have it. Will this Summer's most hotly-anticipated game actually release this Summer? We certainly hope so. After all, it beats having to sit through all that cricket on the telly.
