Fired Up Review

Mad Max meets GTA? Sony's free-wheeling rampage racer offers up some surprisingly solid launch day driving action
It's not like your stuck for choice when it comes to racing games at the PSP's European launch. A quick glance at the release schedule chucks up Ridge Racer, WipEout Pure, TOCA Race Driver 2, Colin McRae Rally 2005 Plus and now this: Fired Up.

Thankfully, it's not quite your standard driving-and-overtaking-to-win-a-big-shiny-cup fare. This is more post-apocalyptic combat racing (or Driving With Guns, if you need it spelling out). You'll dash around three cities blasting fellow drivers off the road, while occassionally participating in some ramp-riding rampage and timed car-shredding carnage. It's all good, solid (if short) fun as a single-player game and the multiplayer mode is a blast. A surprise hit.

Verdict
Fast-paced roadside carnage in the enjoyable but brief single-player mode. Wi-fi multiplayer wheel-offs are great fun though.
