Wednesday 1-Feb-2006 12:03 PM Latest analyst predictions indicate Nintendo's new console will be a steal. Also, when will we see Xbox 360s in stores again?
There's nothing quite like a hard-faced analyst report to brighten up our morning, and today we've got a good 'un. Perennial US analyst PJ McNealy predicts among other things that the Nintendo Revolution will retail for significantly cheaper than its next-gen competitors.
Hardly a ground-shaking prediction we know, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has already stated that the company's next console will be less than the $299 price of the Xbox 360. But PJ McNealy thinks that we could see the Revolution sell for as cheap as $200, giving it a significant financial edge over the Xbox 360 and presumably, the Playstation 3.
Also in McNealy's web of industry guesses is a prediction that we will continue to see a shortage of Xbox 360 consoles stretching in to the summer. McNealy, in his unmatched gaming wisdom, thinks that this will create a surge interest for Microsoft's console. We're not sure what to make of this one, since a large upscale in Xbox 360 game sales has already indicated its reappearance in UK shops. Surely this is a sign of replenishing 360 stock?
Whether any of McNealy's words are much more than inspired guesswork, we simply can't tell. Sure analysts do this sort of thing for a living, but they're not always right. However we do think his Revolution price prediction is in the right ball park to borrow a phrase from our colonial cousins, and expect to see the console at a significantly cheaper price tag than the Xbox 360.
We will no doubt have more analyst shenanigans for you in the near future.
one thing I hate about nintendo... much as I love them... they release the console cheap, and release the games expensive. GC games cost too much. NDS games cost too much. GBA games cost too much.
The consoles are cheap but the games cost more than their rivals'.
Games for nintendo platforms are in line with prices on the other machines available at the moment & they would most likely be cheaper if people wisened up to some of the quality softwarte nintendo deliver instead of countless updates & sequels on PS2 & even xbox, & PSP games are 30-35
$200 for a revolution will no doubt be converted to £200 for uk. I dont htink that is very cheap. compare it to a core Xbox360 (we know the Revo dont have a hard drive) £210
£10 is not 'considerably' cheaper than the rivals
If the Revo dont release at £150 ill be suprised
As for the Xbox360 Shortage... What Shortage.
I never Pre-ordered one and so far I have bought 4 of 'em
I bought my first from toys'r'us in december - sold it on ebay for £100 proffit I bought my second from game about three weeks ago - and sold it to my nephew at no proffit I bought my third from woolworths last week - it was faulty so returned it. I bouth my fourth yesterday from woolworths - they called me to say the new one was in.
If you look hard enough you will find one. I cant believe people pay so much on ebay when all you need is a little effort
Personally i think the Revolution will lauch at £129.99. I think i read an interview where Nintendo said they are going to set it at a price where the console would be irresistable to consumers.
With regards to the 360 shortage, i go into my local game stores semi-regularly (although i have no idea why, i purchase all my stuff online), and there are never any available. I got mine on launch, i pre ordered, but my pre order couldnt be filled so i was forced to queue outside Toys'R'Us for 11 hours to get a premium pack. Even then they ripped me off. I was forced into buying a bundle consisiting of the premium console, PGR 3, King Kong, Amped and 3 crappy DVD's for £500!
The sick thing is i think i actually spent longer queueing for the damn thing than i actually have playing it.
