DS Lite in Europe for June?

Is June 30 the date when the new DS Lite will erupt onto European shores? Speculation abounds inside
Ever since we got our hands on a shiny imported DS Lite from our good friends over at Lik-Sang, one big question has been constantly on our minds; to whit, when will Nintendo fondlers here in dear ol' Blighty, be able to get one of the Big N's admirable new handhelds of their own to covet and hold?

Well, much speculation and rumour has abounded over in the US about the DS Lite's release, with the constantly shifting release of New Super Mario Bros. being cited as a prime mover for the real debut of the slinky new machine. New Super Mario Bros. has now settled on a May 15 release date over in the land of our colonial cousins and we can but only imagine a DS Lite and Mario double pack hitting store shelves at the same time. That would seem an almost irresistible incentive to splash out on a shiny new Lite or upgrade from your dowdy old full fat version.

So with Nintendo recently shifting its own UK release dates to confirm that New Super Mario Bros. is now set for a June 30 debut in the UK, it seems a fair bet to suggest that DS Lite will be hitting our Euro shelves around then too. Speculation for sure, but it makes a lot of sense for Nintendo to launch their revised and rather sexy new handheld alongside their iconic star's first foray into 2D platforming for aeons. No official word from Nintendo itself of course, but we'd advise setting your calendars and saving your pennies for a DS Lite arrival in June.

I reckon an effective launch in Europe would have been to release it with metroid prime. It would be directly targetting what the DS hasn't really yet, the 'average' teen gamer. I think New Mario would sell itself but metroid and the sleek new design would go hand in hand. But obviously nitnendo aren't quite global enough to release the Lite here before the US.
