Reggie explains what the Wii flap's for

Nintendo of America's newly-crowned president tells us about Wii's SD card magic
Nintendo of America's recently elected president, Reggie Fils-Aime, has re-affirmed that the Wii will use SD cards to store data, and by way of that has solved the big mystery surrounding the flap on the front of Nintendo's new console.

Speaking to US mag Game Informer, Reggie divulged exactly what the Wii's flap was for: "That is where an SD card goes," he said. "That's storable media. And on top are the attachments for the GameCube controllers." According to Reggie though, you won't be limited to just saving Wii content on SD cards: "It will be one of the memory mediums, and it's the only one that we've announced".

What kinds of opportunities SD cards open up for the new console beyond saving Wii content remains to be seen. Perhaps we'll be able to backup and share our Wii saves on PCs, or move photos and movies onto the machine. We'll just have to wait and see.

It just gets better & better. No need to go out and spend another 25 quid on a memory card specific for the Wii.

Maybe there will be a special memory card for downloading complete DS games rather than demo's, I think they have done this before in Japan with the Gameboy but you had to visit a shop to get your game. This way you could buy online in the comfort of your own home! Razz

does the above quote mean you can save more than just Wii content to an SD card,
or does it mean you can save Wii content to more than just SD cards - as this isn't the first time ive heard that the Wii will have more than one memory card type.

here's hoping for a compact flash or a USB memory dongle since a 16GB CF cards and USB dongles are set to released end of this year or early next year meaning that you could have as much memory as a Xbox360

It seems like it means that you will be able to save DS and Wii demos and also pictures,i also read somewhere that they have a camera that is attached to the Wii which will enable you take photos of yourself and place it in 3D form in any game that needs you to create a character or as an on-screen display for your Wi-Fi friends.
