The Force is strong Wii this one?

Further hints from official LucasArts bod that a lightsaber game may be on its way to Wii
Star Wars. Or how to kill nostalgia dead in three easy steps. Still, without dwelling on that particular bitter pill too much, fans of George Lucas' opus (hello? are you still there?) should be thrilled to hear that LucasArts has dropped a few more hints suggesting that a (much-rumoured) lightsaber game might well be on its way to Nintendo's Wii after all.

Speaking at Comic-Con in San Diego and reported on IGN, LucasArts' rep Steve Sansweet confirmed that the company has plans to bring games to all-three next-gen platforms, including the Wii, in response to a question posed by a member of the audience.

More intriguingly though, Sansweet referenced the fact that (as has already been noted the internet over) Nintendo's motion-sensoring Wiimote bears an uncanny resemblance to Star Wars' iconic lightsaber. Whether this means every budding Jedi will finally get the game of their dreams is anyone's guess - but with such comparisons coming straight out the gob of an official LucasArts rep, it's looking increasingly likely.

Yeah, maybe - but if the game is done well will you really care?
pgt103 on 24 Jul '06
I don't care you will be a jedi, and you will feel like a man the fist time you hack somebodys face off.
TomSmithUK on 24 Jul '06
this has so much potential I just hope that lucas do it justice

I see a number one spot being filled,
any starwars fan, lots of kids/adults alike would love this concept.

If a first person lightsaber game is made and it'd decent, it will prob be enough to make me buy a Wii.
ez_dude on 24 Jul '06
Let's face it, everybody wants to wield a Lightsaber.
But that's not enough to make me buy a c**p game. Hope this time LucasArts makes a worthy game!

There could be much more than just lightsaber action to make use of the Wii, a lot of the Jedi powers wwould be cool when using the wii. I think the wii is gonna be great exercise for most gamers

To hell with being a jedi. Let me be a Sith and I'll be sweet

if they make it they have to not do the whole "red steel" thing, where you just swing in a direction to start a certain type of pre-defined move (this is just lame and can be acheived with a normal controller)

but if they make it so you on screen jedi weilds his light saber... exactly like you are holding and swinging the wii mote... then the force will definelty be with this game
justd on 24 Jul '06
I bet they would make a limited edition Wii lightsaber controller that looked just like the handle without the beam... how cool would that be!!

Very very very cool!

I think you should be able to use the nunchuck for force powers - swing the wiimote as the lightsaber and use the accellerometer in the nunchuck to use force powers i.e. pushing the nunchuck forward would be like a push force power Very Happy awesome!

I have no love for Star Wars at all - it's alright, but I don't really care for it.

However, the thought of actually being able to swing a light sabre at someone's gullet is enough to get me salivating
