PSP Download Service on track -- first details!

According to a senior Sony exec -- sketchy details of what it might be like are starting to emerge
Sony's Izumi Kawanishi - the executive in charge of software platform development in Japan - has lifted the lid on the PSP's download service in an interview with NikkeiBP. He revealed that the PSP has no problems running PlayStation 1 games in an emulator - although control systems may require a rethink as the PSP only has one analogue stick - that films as well as games will be downloadable and that the download service will operate via WiFi-enabled PCs as well as the PS3.

Kawanishi argued that digital distribution is now feasible, thanks to widespread broadband, and revealed that, with the PS3 configured as a home server, the PSP could be used as a mobile information system (with the PS3's Cell processor taking on the number-crunching duties).

And he confirmed that Sony is hoping to roll out the PSP Download Service when the PS3 launches. Let's hope that turns out to be the case, as the Download Service could provide the PSP with a much-needed boost.

The concept of having the PS3 do all the grunt work and then streaming the rendering graphics to the PSP sounds exciting.

Perhaps thats why GT4 for the PSP was postponed indefinately? So they could show this working with GT HD? Although I guess lag issues would rule out anything like a racing game.

As for PSone game downloads, I just hope they are sensibly priced. I would be miffed in having to buy a PSone game again when I already have the original.

This idea is not going to work.

Without two anolouge sticks, games 1998 post won't work properly, just like all the lame PS2-PSP ports.

Without two shoulder buttons, any game that uses those buttons will need recongiuring

And since the PSP is in widescreen, we will either get streched images or bars. Your choice.

And honestly, I am mroe interested in playing a new game like MG: Portable Ops rather then a crappy port of MGS1.

I dont know about you but I can put up with a streched image or black bars.

I actually wouldnt mind playing some old ports. MGS1 was class and I would love to play it on PSP. Same goes for the Final Fantasy game.

All the PS1 games I want, don't use the right analogue or second shoulder buttons,
FF VII
FF VIII
RE
RE 2
RE 3
and MGS
damn it, I forgot about SH, guess I can deal with that somehow.
I'm sure the devs will adjust the screen to fit the PSP's widescreen without it looking like too much of a mess.

I think that list covers most of the main games that people want.

Sony remade that RPG Lenneth which was a port of a PSone game. That looks and plays fine so I dont think it will be a problem.
