Wii-view of launch line-up

Nintendo unleashes Wii launch show-reel - first Resident Evil footage spotted!
To coincide with the official announcement of the Japanese and American release of the Wii, Nintendo has compiled a bountiful trailer of the launch titles set to hit the system.

Among the expected Zelda footage and crazy Japanese games (Wii-orchestra conducting, anyone?) comes a very brief snapshot of the new Biohazard: Umbrella Chronicles, which we revealed yesterday. Blink and you WILL miss it!

Yet throughout all this preview goodness, perhaps the most interesting part is seeing just how silly people look playing the Wii-sports games.

You can check out the preview for yourself here.

i have commented before that the wii graphics look old gen but now i see the kind of games and how they look and play i am utterly convinced and will be getting one at launch, assuming theres enough of em to go round.

I don't think I've ever looked forward to a console launch as much as this one, can't wait to get a bit of golf action on the go!

Pretty sure that was the RE1 dining room. Confused

Still Wii = wow. Or wowii!

If you have seen the new vid of Zelda and Sonic, you will know that the graphics ARE NOT old gen.

It is. Please Capcom, not another remake. Resident Evil is one series I'd really like to see get back to it's roots though.

Getting very excited now about the Wii coming out, I've bought a couple of consoles on launch day (Dreamcast & DS) and will definatley be doing it all again! Wonder if Nintendo will do a similar launch scheme to the DS (Oversized Touch me T-Shirt etc)? I doubt it, come launch day though I'll be battling old ladies and kiddy winks out of the way to get mine! Will be big time miffed though if Zelda is pushed back I was ready for it last christmas, and I'm not really that fussed about Wii sports though.

I would agree with that. But did you also see the resident evil clip about half way through. Seems to be losing balance on some tree log thing, and there are slug like creatures around the characters feet.

All in all, very impressed. The games just look incredibly fun to play.

AFAIK that is not RE, i can't remember what it is but i have seen it before... Alone in the Dark or something?
phil_jcr on 14 Sep '06
uh oh, do you have to wear white to play it?!

apart from that....i want trauma centre and cooking mama!

Hmmm. You could be right. Looked very REish to me but ive watched it over and over again. I think it could be RE but it could just as easily be something else.
andrewizbatman on 14 Sep '06
Perhaps it's like Zero and Nemesis and reuses past environments or perhaps it a Anthology of the past Racoon City exploits eg.. 0,1,2 & 3 all Wii quality with a RE4 style controls system
GiarcYekrub on 14 Sep '06
I thought RE was the clip before the entrance hall.
The entrance hall linked close to the Zelda clip, I just thought it was that... :S

I thought the RE clip was the one with the spider and the guy stepping over some bugs down a craggy rock passage.
Btw..in that clip it looked to be, imo,
LEON!

YES!

I think its that NecroNesia game that was E3 that was a kinda Resi type game, but i couldn't be sure!

I also saw the RE1 dining room, main hallway & one of the corridors, so maybe Capcom are going to 'revisit' the original mansion somehow, kinda like they did with RE: Code Veronica X

Did anyone else also see that Nintendog-looking game? ^_^ except it also had giraffes & other animals in it :-/ Meh, I'm really looking forward to most of those games except from a few, while others I've never seen before...
dark_gamer on 14 Sep '06
It was definitely Resident Evil 1. Doesn't mean it's a remake of the 1st game though. Could just as easily be some kind of pre-rendered footage, to say "Hey, we're doing Resident Evil for Wii, but this is all your getting at the moment". No in-game graphics were shown.

My only wish is they try and make it scary again. Resident Evil 4's game mechanics were literally perfect, but I didn't find a single moment in the game that shocked or scared me. Just played and felt like an action game.
whitepony888 on 14 Sep '06
That is Resident Evil 1 in the trailer. You are shown the dining room (dining table, fireplace, shield and balcony were all spotted), entrance hall and the first room on the right where you see the statue (where you find the map and the cloak room at the back where you get attacked by a zombie). The door to this room was 'kicked-in' and smashed, rather than the olde opening door/loading screen rubbish.

Seems to me that 'Resident Wiivl' will be a remake of the original, but this time you roam around freely, combining qualities from Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (I've not played it) and the mechanics from Resident Evil 4 (LOVE that game)! Sound like your perfect game whitepony888?

Either that, or we just drop into the mansion as an Umbrella operative in the 'Umbrella Chronicles' game that CVG reported on a few days ago.

I would guess that they would revist some sections of ALL Resi games.

And yea I saw that Nintendogs look alike game. Nintendo would be mad not to follow up on a super success like Nintendogs.

From Here. The person didn't give any sources though.

Biohazard Wii indepth:

Extensive information on the gameplay and content of RE:Wii has surfaced.

-The game consists of 4 "chapters", RE1's mansion, RE2's RPD, RE3's city areas and RE4's village (plus surrounding areas).

-Each chapter has 2 characters to choose from. RE1 has Jill and Chris, RE2 has Leon and Claire, RE3 has Jill and Carlos and RE4 has Leon and Ada.

-There are several characters that can be unlocked by playing through the game: Rebecca Chambers, Hunk and Albert Wesker.

-The gameplay of all chapters is designed around RE4's. Press the B trigger on the wiimote to go into over-the-shoulder view, aim with the pointer and press A to fire.

-The game will have QTEs, but rather than push buttons you have to make motions with the wiimote in order to get through them.

-All characters will have mêlée attacks, just like RE4.

-To encourage replayablility, each character has strengths and weaknesses, similar to how in RE4:Mercenaries Ada had the least health, Krauser was the slowest, etc.

-Just like in RE4:Mercenaries each character has a unique set of weapons. What's more players can only carry 2 weapons at any one time. Chris gets a pistol and shotgun whilst Jill gets a pistol and grenade launcher.

-You will be able to find several new weapons during each stage. For example, RE1 will have Richard's shotgun, RE2 will have the Desert Eagle, RE4 will have the Chicago Typewriter. There will also be new weapons like Krauser's anti-personnel robots.

-Similar to Devil May Cry 3, after each chapter you can save your data and any new weapons picked up will be available for use in Arcade Mode.

-Arcade Mode is like a giant Mercenaries minigame, where you pick a character and stage and blast through it. Building on the resounding success of Mercenaries seen when RE4 was released.

-Scenario mode will feature a large number of ingame cutscenes.

-New content not in the games that the chapters were based on will be added. The primary goal of this will be to link RE4 and Umbrella's status in it more closely with the rest of the series.

-Ammo conservation will play a part in the gameplay, so it's not just constant action like RE4.

-Trailer coming at TGS.
