Eidos has revealed it plans to release a brand new Tomb Raider title during its 2008 financial year (July 2007 to June 2008), "including a PS3 version" it's stated in a recent financial report.
In addition, as part of its '2008 and future product pipeline', the company has said to expect new projects from Tomb Raider: Legend developer Crystal Dynamics and Hitman and Kane & Lynch dev IO Interactive.
"Including" a PS3 version? Good, so its heading for 360 as well then?
I'm looking forward it already. I thoroughly enjoyed Legend and although I have played through the entire game 4 times on various difficulties to get all the achievements, I still find myself popping the disc into my 360 every now and then to acrobat my way across a level or two.
Prince of Persia mixed with guns, motorbikes, hot chick, clever puzzles, decent story and most importantly of all a ripped blue suade dress? The dress scene was the only time I "YAWN!"ed during the whole game, but now in retrospect I can confirm that it was in fact my jaw dropping and not a yawn at all.
It's a good game. Not quite a 10/10 and it is a little bit short, but it's great fun while it lasts. Forget what you know about tradional Tomb Raider games, the recycled formula used for TR 1-5 and the abysmal Angel of Death or whatever it was called. Legend is completely different.
It was actually the abysmal Angel of Darkness, please dont associate that pile of faeces with the Broken Sword series! I agree tho, Legend was rather enjoyable while it lasted!

Don't people find it funny that they're having to state that the next Tomb Raider will include a PS3 version? In the past, whenever they mention a new Tomb Raider game, you would automatically assume it would appear on the Playstation.
It just goes to show how things have changed for Sony......

On the contry , i've sampled them all ,from the virgin title that appeared on the saturn all the way to the present days coffin dodging " Tomb raider legend" & all of them after no.2 were as you've put it " recycled " beyond belief ,managing to keep me entertainted for half an hour or less before they were switched off and taken back to the local video club.
So when this recent game came out i thought this would be the new turning the series badly needed, but it wasn't to be .
It's the same old, find ancient artifact, run here, push this onto this switch pull this ,climb up here to swing over there for the shortest 6 hours of bland " is this running on 360 " framerate & clipping problem visuals, seen it, done it ,repetitive 90's style of gameplay.......YAWN.
.............................
Hell, even pacman has evolved further than the tomb raider series ever have !

Maybe, but I suppose it is just because the PS3 is not out yet, if it was the first of the next gen consoles then we would be reading "and a 360 version is due". The other thing to bear in mind is that Tomb Raider was once a very hot property but isn't as much nowadays, so not having a particular Tomb Raider Game on a system no isn't seen as such a bad thing.
I think the latest version was an ok game, it sorted a lot of the control issues out, but where was the WOW factor of the very first Tomb Raider?
The problem may be that the first Tomb Raider was groundbreaking yet the last installment was merely a big improvement on the last 3 games, and those games shouldn't have had those gameplay issues in the first place.

Keyser, you speak a great deal of sense. I particularly agree with the comment about the PS3 not being out yet - do people not realise the exact opposite of this current situation happened years ago?
I just hope the next game builds upon the solid foundations of Legend.
It might be easier for them to tell us which systems its not going to appear on as I guess they will try and publish a Tomb Raider game on every system under the sun.
The first game I think came out at the right time. It showed (me anyway) what consoles, especially the Saturn, could do.
Unfortunetly I didnt get to sample TR2 since it never got released for the Saturn After that I kind of lost interest in the franchise.
TR1 was one of the games that made me go wow on so many levels. And when you first see the T-rex...That moment is in my "top ten significant gaming moments".
