Previous£1 million of Xbox 360s stolen in Midlands Xbox 360 outsells PS3 and Wii?  Next

Official: Xbox 360 price cut

Xbox 360 advertised for £199.99 on UK TV ads
It's the season to be ten whole English pounds jollier. Microsoft has knocked ten quid off the price of the Xbox 360 Core System in the UK.

During ITV's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here*, Microsoft unleashed an Xbox 360 ad-break frenzy; three ads in less than four minutes.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and Gears of War aren't a surprise and have been shown many times already over the past few weeks, but the first ad showcased the platform's swelling portfolio of games, stating the price of the console as "from £199.99 RRP".

The price drop on the Core system happened a few months back.

That's definately for the core system - We even have POS instore to promote Xbox 360 as 'HD Gaming from €299 / £199
Noobsaibot on 26 Nov '06
Funny, the core system had been on sale for £199 for ages.

I saw the full system for £260 in Tesco the other day. Hopefully when the PS3 eventually turns up, it might be worth buying a 360 if they drop the price again, either that or a new DX10 cards will be in order.

Stores always drop the price of consoles a few months before the manufacturer drops the price. At least that's the way it used to happen anyway.

I got quite excited by this news headline! I guess I was jumping the gun (well, I definitely was!) because I thought £199 was for the top spec pack! The Core pack should just slip away and the full pack should just take it’s price tag on as if it were it’s own! I think it would be a good move by Microsoft as it would make the Wii look over priced.

LOL the thing that makes me laugh is that all online retailers dropped the price ages ago --- in which i got a core in may for £170 -- thank god for discount vouchers

The power of Marketing! Officially slash the price by a tenner and advertise it, every parent out there is like "oooh thats a bargain" rush out and buy one now before the Wii hits the shops.

I think it will happen, where the core is phased out of retailers, infact I'd be more inclined to see the premium dropping to something around £239.99 with a HD-DVD drive bundle taking up the top position of £359.99, and what month might something like this happen? March is my bet!
Ok the prices above are completly made up, but its certainly in the realms of possibility being 16 months old by then.

Personally, I think its a good idea having two different ranges, but I think the current configuration is crap - I mean, why should you pay £80 extra for just a 20gb hard drive (and wireless controlers)

They should scrap the current core pack, the new £200 core pack should include all the features of the current premuim, and the new £280 premium should include 60gb hard drive and built in WiFi

Agree with most there, though the extra £80 does get you the HDD, Wireless pad, Head Set and Component cable (over standard scart).

Put the price of those together from building up a core pack, and it does work out in your best interests.

Personally I'd like to see tighter balancing. With a 20GB system and 40-60GB system. At least that way, everyone has a decent amount of storage available.

A lot of people go out and buy the Core version, and some whom deemed it too expensive may go and buy it now ( because £10 makes ALL the difference).
I decided to pay full whack for a premium mid September (missus nagging me not to buy one) and i hope that if the price drops suddenly (as it did with the xbox) that MS will offer a joypad/game combination again

I'm not sure I've ever worked in a retail store that dropped the price of a console system, below what they pay for it for any reason. There is very little margin in a console, most stores only make maybe five to ten dollars on each one so I can't imagine a store dropping the price before the manufacturer does. They'd be losing money on each one they sold.

Well as has been seen here (and in days gone by) the price of the 360 Core pack was dropped before MS made an official announcement for it to be dropped. So it's quite obvious that it does happen.

It's simple really, encourage more people to buy the console and you can sell them more software.

Core system was a huge mistake by M$, what's the point? it only limits developers options

My main point was that the Hard drive is way overpriced, £60-70 for 20gb hard drives sucks (especially when its not even 20GB - Only 13GB is usable), you can get a 200GB HDD for your PC for the same price

Now that sounds good. And maybe even throw in a HDMI cable as well (MS - there is demand for it!).
