The latest issue of Game Informer has reported that a brand new Zelda for Wii has been in development for a year and could come out sooner rather than later.
"Our sources tell us that the next instalment in this series has been deep in development for around a year. It's highly unlikely that Nintendo would release two Zelda games a year apart, but don't be surprised if this game comes up sooner than you think," reports the magazine.
The same issue also reports that the DS version of Phantom Hourglass has been delayed until October 2007, which is gutting if true.
I wonder if this new game will be like a Majora's Mask to Ocarina of Time, i.e. an entirely different story and setting but reusing the same engine and graphical assets to speed up development?
It's nice hearing that a new game is on the way but it's likely to be 18 months to two years away at least - Ocarina of Time came out in December 1998 and Majora's Mask was November 2000.
Zelda: Twilight Princess is an awesome game and I'm loving every second of it so far. It's made me realise after a year of playing Xbox 360 games that you don't need fancy hi-def graphics to make a great game.
It’s interesting that it’s been in development for a year and that Z:TP was held back a year. Maybe the next one will follow on from TP or at lest have an overlap of some sort. I know this isn’t the Zelda way but it’s interesting, the Zelda team must have been working on both at the same time, or is it a different team?

I thought that TP was like MM as it was using the WW engine. Personally the I rather the first Zelda I buy for Wii have a purpose built Wii engine rather than a modded GC one.
You wait all these years for one Zelda game and then 2 come along, I know that the new Zelda is being developed by Capcom and nintendo said that expect the new Zelda to be completly new, I think their exact words were "Twilight Princess will be the last zelda game as you know it." interesting
Right, so anyone who's anyone would know what the controller looks like much before the release of the console. You think they'd get their lawyers to speak to Nintendo before it's released and say "Look, this is a bit similar, isn't it? If you release it like this, we'll sue" and they would have worked something out. But now it's been released and was an obvious success, they decide to sue now. F***ing money grabbers, that's what they are.

Whats this got to do with a new zelda announcment?
And i hope they are making a true wii version of zelda as TP is very good but looks like a GC game at heart.
what happened to 'mario 128'? nintendo did not want to show it at E3 two years ago because other companies would nick its ideas.
could that have turned into mario galaxy?
Yes. Shigeru Miyamoto has said that mario Galaxy is based on the Mario 128 demo. Check out this link: GamesRadar article
I think the next Zelda will definitely be on Wii, so the article is probably true in that respect, but I wouldn't expect it until another two years from now at the very least. It will more likely be three years away.
