Sony's head of Worldwide Studios Phil Harrison recently told Official PlayStation Magazine that he wouldn't like to make any definitive statements about the March rollout for PS3.
Sony quickly followed that up with a statement re-confirming PS3 is on track for March 2007 across Europe. But speculation of a further delay just won't go away.
High placed sources within the industry have already been tipping April as a more realistic launch window the for console. But a source has told CVG that a PS3 delay as far back as September 2007 is now far more likely, pointing the finger of delay at - yes you guessed it - "component shortages". And let's face it, you don't launch a console in summer.
When contacted this morning a Sony UK spokesperson told CVG that "We're 100 percent on track for a March release".
Sony's Euro boss added, "We're still on schedule to launch PS3 in March, throughout the PAL territories... and all speculation otherwise, is without foundation".
I just posted a comment regarding the Playstation 3 outselling t he Xbox 360 in Japan. Saying i will be amazed if this baby is out in March and 5 mins later here we go!!! DONT do it Sony!!!
Well guys i am off to the pub to have a beer to drown my sorrows. SHAME ON SONY!!!!!. If this is a rumour PRAISE SONY and at least i had an excuse for a beer lol.....
Bluray all the way mate!!!!! how can you say its a winning format when its barely even started!! unless your mystic meg we are gonna have to wait and see arent we.....
Yes it would have a fantastic launch line-up but the playstation 3 has so much more to offer than games and i am itching to get my hands on it.... Its gonna have a great launch line-up as it is but i do see your point.
Sony were denying a delay till next year up until 2 weeks before launch, so we should get an answer about feb next year it`s being delayed again, who says europe dosent matter.
Sony did this with the European launch of the PSP: shifting it to September although if memory serves (and it usually doesn't) the Japan & US releases were March?????
I wouldn't be surprised if they turn around and say "well actually, because our console is so amazing you can wait 6 more months"
Enough talk, more action!
I don't know, I think this will backfire on Sony if they carry on the way they are with p**sing gamers around especially the ones that really do want one...........to sell on ebay with a tiny markup
I think most interesting factor is the console lifespan. Traditionally there has been roughly a five year gap between generations.
Microsoft cut this to four with the 360 so has been out a full year. Sony might claim PS3 will have a ten year lifecycle but considering its almost the same graphically as a 360 i can't see this happening.
So what i want to know is what happens when PS3 is delayed until xmas 2007 and xbox 3 comes out in 2010 (assuming 5 years since launch). Sony has three years to claw back sales before Microsoft brings out a new machine which makes it look like a toy.
Ah well at least the PSP is selling well for them.....
I'm won't be surprised if this turns out to be true. Sony DO NOT CARE about Europe. They never have. They're only interested in getting as many sold in America as possible. Probably so they can get a good foothold with BluRay in the HD format war.
Great! I can enjoy the summer chasing girls and going on wicked holidays! Hopefully by mid/end 2007 or whatever they'll get their act together and release some decent games and lower the price.
If Sony delay until September i will be buying a 360.... Sony really need to get their head out of their bottom and stop messing European games around. I am sure Europe has contributed massivly to the astonishing sales of the playstation products. So why do they keep messing us around?????? i declair WAR!!!!! lets march on SONY!!!!!
The reason the PS3 is sooo expensive is because of its componenets, well computer componenets drop in price very fast, and if the PS3 does finally release in September, the PS3 will technically be a year old, containing 'old' components, so there is no way I wanna see a launch price of £400+ in September
as for the blu-ray/HD-DVD war, I do agree that it will be won by HD-DVD, simply becasue the general consumer now knows what HD is and they know what DVD is so they put the two together - simple.
The blue ray however does offer far more potential, If you think the first 'red laser' disks (CD's) could only hold 750mb of data, the red laser is now reaching its peak of 15GB because a red laser beam is far thicker than the blue laser.
The Blu-Ray disk is just the start and in the future I expect to see 100GB disks using a Blue lasers
There's always a plus side to getting a console months after other regions, the launch line up will have at least a few interesting titles and if the PS3 is delayed until September '07 then you'll actually be able to afford it if you start saving now.
I, and I think many people have been expecting this news for a while anyway. Production problems are still a big thing for the PS3, which doesn't seem to want to go away. Rumour about it has been rife enough, and we all know how quickly Sony can change their minds closer to release day.
I will buy a PS3 for the same reason I bought a 360 and now a Wii - for the games. The delays are unfortunate but s**t happens. I just wish for once Sony would take the honest approach and say we are trying for March (and lets face it, I'm sure they are. Europe is a large market for them, and they’d be fools not to want a slice of the pie that Microsoft and Nintendo are now happily chewing on) but there’s a very good chance it will slip past that.
I’d like to see it in March, but the more I hear about the problems facing the console, the more unlikely it seems. On the plus side, as somebody has already stated, the launch line up should be a lot better.

Erm.. HD-DVD also uses a blue laser so why does blueray offer far more potential than hd-dvd?
i have a ps3 you arnt missing anything no games to play and im not buying 30 dollar movies the only thing i do with it is play ps2 games and download ps1 games to the psp for 653 bucks seems wrong no good games intill feb 07. and as far as blu-ray vs hd-dvd its already over porn is on hd-dvd and not blu-ray game over.and before you say you dont buy porn i dont i just download it. but somebody sure in the hell buys it. it out sells your so called normal movies mainstream stuff

I'm so glad I got my 360 just after christmas last year, the price hasnt gone down and i've been playing top class games on it like condemned, pgr3, cod2, the outfit, ghost recon, saints row, dead rising, gears of war and Sonic the Hedgehog (just kidding).
I thought september was when Sony would really launch the PS3 as they seem to love letting european gamers down, and yet a load of moronic twerps will still lap it up and actually forgive them, even though both Microsoft and the considerably smaller Nintendo both kept their promises and managed to get their machines out ON TIME in europe.
look at gamespot by the way for a comparison between the 360 and ps3 and marvel at how Sonys machine is inferior!
Well since this has not been confirmed yet, there still many be hope left for people with money and want the ps3. However, it will not surprise me if there is another delay.
To be fair Sony are not the only company that delays technology in Europe. Most companies do. And for a good reason as well, we are the slowest at adopting new technology. Example: HD technology. But Sony are one of the worse, if not the worse at making us wait.
Still if this delay happens I can’t see it damaging there sales too much. Only hardcore gamers seem to get worked up by delays – and also share holders . The advantage Sony owner just doesn’t care. I was talking to some people yesterday and they were telling me how the ps3 was the most power fullest console. I wasn’t so show cause I remember ages ago people were saying to me but the 360 out specs the ps3. Still they believe it was and maybe it is. But to be honest I stick with 360 and Wii – when I get one – for now and maybe in ages time when I believe prices have gone down and many good games have come out then I will buy a ps3. And then I can see what the fuss is about.
The reason Europe is always last is because it requires the most work. Think about how many different translations have to be done to accomodate all the european countries. Plus then you have different taxes and laws surrounding each country. Much more work and hassle involved so they leave it until last to give them more time to roll things out.
If they launch in March, then they will have that few consoles available it won't even be worth releasing the machine. Realistically most people are looking at Sept 07 before they will readily be able to purchase one anyway, whether it launches in March or September.
I seriously doubt Sony will be able to launch in Europe in March 2007, I hope they prove me wrong. Doesn't really matter to me as I don't intend to get one at the very least until 2010.
I've been thinking about it and I think September is possibly the best time to launch for Sony anyway. In my opinion March is a stupid time to launch a console. If they launch in September the initial batch will sell out quickly but they will have just enough time to restock in order to make the PS3 the must have item for Xmas 2007.

It would be almost sudicidal for them to wait that long in europe, people are already getting sick of waiting and ARE sick of Sony's BS and by then the 360 will have had almost a 2 year start on them and be all but untouchable. By that time the first rumours of the next Microsoft console will be starting to do the rounds, PC's will be far outstripping the PS3 and the format war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will be all but over unless Blu-Ray can make some sort of turn around.
Sony gambled with the PS3 by making it so high end and its just not paying off at the moment, with all the bad press and dificulties the company has endured the last thing that they can afford is to push more of their potential customers into the waiting arms of their competitors.
Sony always screw over their consumers more so than anyone else because the people always end up buying their crap eventually anyway.
The only way to make them take notice is to vote with your wallets & not buy the stupid thing Sega learned their lesson to late after the Saturn (which I still believe was a far better machine than PS1) but the dreamcast was brilliant and developer friendly & had some of the greatest games of its time but got ignored by certain publishers most notably EA who ironically Sega helped them break into console games big time on the megadrive.
Now sony are so arrogant & up their own asses they think they can do whatever they want & especially to europeans, look how long they held PSP back I said to my friends months ago when they announced a march date to expect it around september instead, & most of them have already decided to skip ps3 & bought 360's & now some of them are buying Wii as well.
Delays delays thats all we euro's can count on from sony broken promises & bullsh!t.
the really sad thing is I bet we still get stiffed on the retail price even after all the delays.
Don't ya just love this anti-Sony sentiment! you've got your work cut out, haven't you?!
Maybe not anti-Sony so much as anti-fooked over again sentiment?
Anyway as far as i can make out blu-ray is causing the issues with the ps3 delay maybe they should of followed msoft and made it an after market add on perhaps?
But no they tried to force everyone into the blu-ray format at least msoft left it open?
and no im no fanboy of anyone im a fanboy of decent games and service.

Let's be honest, it's the PS3, it will sell. Sony could put a hot steaming dog s**t in a box, stick the PS brand name on it and would probably be able to sell it to some people at a price of £200. I know I'll be buying one at some point in the future for the exclusive games (I got the 360 and Wii at each respective launch and want to complete my collection), the wait of the year means we'll have some decent exclusive games (hopefully) as so far I'm not impressed by what I've seen before in games not available on the 360.
FEATURED COMMENT: (save u the job CVG )At least this way, you can save 2 Quid a day n probli hav enough left over to hire an assassin in a Mario outfit (Extra Cost Required)to take out the Sony CEO!
ROFL, by that time, the mid range DX10 cards will make the PS3 look average.
I don't know why MS just don't stick a mouse & keyboard onto the 360's successor and finish this business once and for all.
The only console that wants to be a game console is the Wii, the rest seem to want to replace my PC with all these extra features, but miss out on the keyboard and mouse bit...
Listen I work in the retail industry and no one, I repeat, NO ONE, believes that the PS3 will be out in March. Some retailers are so sure that it won't that money and resources that were ear-marked to gear for it's launch have been switched to something else (clue for you, Wii60) and are planning for a fiscal year 07/08 launch ie after June. Sony reps that you speak to, will privately admit that a March launch is pretty much dead now and if it does happen, will be in figures so low as to make it impractical for third party developers to profitably release game in Europe for some time, so they most likely won't at launch. Blu-ray is the reason we keep hearing for the delays. Blu-ray is causing faults that are now being reported in US and Japan units and Blu-ray IS losing the sales war in the US and Blu-ray is the reason that you weren't able to get the PS3 2 years ago like sony said we were. The sad and tragic thing is that there are still enough people out there who will pay for Sony to cr@p in their mouths and then pay them again to t fish it out for them. Trust me on this, Sony will delay the announcement till after Christmas in the hope that they will keep the numbers of people who just go 'sod it, I'm getting little Johny a 360 or Wii this Christmas' to a minimum. I would say about the second or third week in January is when Sony say sorry but September it is.
Firts they said it would be out in march (it launched in the previous september in Japan. Then the PSP launched in the USA in MArch and sidestepped Europe.
Looks like Europe gets the Sony shaft again (maybe they are trying to extend the Sony/Japan shaft to make it bigger, they reckon the Japs have the smallest "appendages" in the world)
Anyway, who other than a Sony fanboi will pay over the odds for Sony SHOD anyway.
MGS is sooooo cool, Frikin homo CGI watching, no gameplay fuds
kind of irritating that Europe isgiven the raw end of the deal (as usual), but doesn't actually matter to me, no way am I buying it at launch, not with that price and no games that grab my attention. roll on FFXIII and MGS4
As I've said all along there's no way it'll launch in March.
Sony can't even supply units to the regions that already have it (japan/usa) so why add to the problem by launching in Europe as well?
I totally agree with one of the previous posts. The guy who works in retail is spot on when he says that sony are stalling on making the annoucement till after christmas.
Not True....we will have to wait for the PS4 also longer than the rest...so our lifespan will be as long as it is in Japan. And Sony does always back up the old system with games....so....
I dont believe in Sony's Stories anymore...just bought a 360 and playing right now....up yours Sony! Idem for GT Mobile for PSP....they just lie about it!
Iv been playing my 360 for a year now, remember Sony said March 2006,then November, then March 2007,now maybe September,to be honest i couldn't less if it never turned up....

That may not hold true with the PS3 though, the PS1 and 2 were only so well suported because they were the market leaders and this meant that making games for them made the most sense financially. But this time around its looking more and more liekly that Sony's market share will not only decrease but do so significantly unless they get their act together. If the 360 or Wii become the market leader instead then they'll be the one that gets the most support from developers.
Sony aren't like Nintendo, themselves don't develop that many games themselves, they're heavily reliant on third party publishers and if PS3 doesn't make a serious market impact it'll not be worthwhile for them to go to the expense of making games for it, they'll go for the cheaper to develop for Wii or the greater market share of the 360 (assuming that happens of course).
I feel sorry for all those people who were planning to buy a PS3, but I can't say I'm surprised. I wasn't going to buy one in the first place, though, and this new delay only intensifies my contempt for Sony.
