Virtua Fighter 5 bitch slaps 360 in the chops!

Sega confirms the latest version of its VF series will now launch on Xbox 360, as well as PS3
Tecmo's Dead or Alive series is about to get some serious competition for the king of fighters' throne on Xbox 360 in the form of Virtua Fighter 5, previously a PS3 only title.

Hopefully, the fact that VF is spreading out on multiple platforms will give the DOA series a much needed kick up the arse. But Sega's legendary beat 'em up franchise has taken a few knocks of its own over the last few years. Maybe it's just that the genre as a whole has gone as far as it can?

From what Sega is saying, the 360 version will be pretty much the same as the PS3 version. A release date has been penned in for summer '07 on both PS3 and 360.

"The Virtua Fighter series from Sega has one of the most prestigious histories in video games," said Jeff Bell, corporate VP of marketing for Microsoft. "It's a franchise that has grown an army of loyal fans both in arcades and on consoles worldwide, and is consistently rated extremely high by the media. Fighting game fans have been hungry for Virtua Fighter 5 and we can now proudly deliver this game with Sega to Xbox 360 gamers around the world."

Virtua Fighter 2 was great, and as such i still held the series in quite high esteem (and was jealous that it was appearing on a system i didn't own).

Then a few days ago I saw some PS3 vids of the game, and was suddenly less jealous, as it doesn't look very good.

Now CVG reports this piece of news, and I'm not excited.

Cool - I was reading about VF5 the other day on another website and fancied it, now that its coming to 360 I'll be picking it up for sure.

Very Happy

another victory for microsoft

ouch sony ouch

thats gotta hurt like a spinning round house kick to the nuts

The reasons to get a PS3 before xmas 07 are few are far between as each month goes by...
Great news for the Xbox 360 though.

I’m a big Sega fan but when they announced it as a PS3 exclusive it was a big kick in the chops.

Sega should make all their games multi format so we don’t have to buy every bloody machine to play them.

Well done Very Happy

A victory for Microsoft? Perhaps. But I'd say it's more a victory for the consumer.

The more games that release on all platforms, the less we're forced to buy a specific console.

I can't say if want to have to buy a PS3 just for the sake of MGS4 (maybe I'll just wait a half-decade/decade and it'll be available for download on PC, lol).

I havnt owned a VF game since Vf3 on the dreamcast, but i will be getting this for 360 though, it's just a shame their is a sega console anymore to play sega games on. Maybe its just me, but sega games havnt felt the same on non sega hardware....

But VF5 on 360, bang goes another reason to own PS3 now.
The_Hun1 on 21 Dec '06
er...heres me thinkin it was released on PS3 on feb 20th? Question

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/751/751474p1.html

if that IS the case..methinks the 360 version will be available for the mentioned summer release date..
after all SEGA had been beavering away on the PS3 version for some time now...also of note...it WILL be most definately a launch title for sony's console in march Wink
seedaripper on 21 Dec '06
VF 5 might be ready for PS3 launch in march, but who can say for 100% that PS3 in europe will come out in europe in march 2007? not even phil harrison the boss man at sony would confirm that launch window, being realistic i would say late april, early may, or wait for it even september since launching a console just before the summer draught is stupid.
The_Hun1 on 21 Dec '06
Hell.....YES!!!
ileatyoualive on 21 Dec '06
Thank you Sega, intelligent move. Very Happy

Now, if you're game is up to scratch you have just got yourself another sale to a very happy 360 owner.

Now where to put all next years Xbox360 releases?
I think I need a new shelf.

surley there wouldnt be a 'summer drought' if the PS3 releases with ALL the jap/yank releases, plus a few more by then...im gonna be f**kin skint as it is Wink
(it has been stated on numerous occasions that it WILL launch in march-they're (sony) planning a major firmware update to coincide as well)
again appendages crossed Rolling Eyes

You had reasons to get a PS3? Shocked
Dellinator on 21 Dec '06
When has their never been a summer games draught? its the way the industry works, big summer blockbusters come out, people have sunshine to enjoy, people go on holiday, people are still trying to finish the winter rush of software they got last xmas.

Put it this way the PS3 comes out in march next year, you will get the 20 plus launch line up (note one game might be great, the rest, crap) then you get in the space of 6 or 7 weeks, you get another 15 to 20 games, then it goes quite during the summer months, then in early september it slowly and surely picks up in the rush for xmas. What would you rather have some really crap games in the first 2 months or better games come september, to go with your new machine?

I would like to point out, sony said they would release the console worldwide at the same time (they didn't) sony said they would ship a million for north america at launch (they didnt even manage 200,000 units, and look doubtful to have 1 million units sold by xmas in the states), they shippid far less in japan to boot aswell. They said VF5 was exclusive, it isn't. They said you can't do forcefeedback with motion controller, turns out you can. They said us europeans should be happy getting PS3 alot later than everywhere else and also we should be happy paying all that money over (we arn't).

They said developers knew about the axis controller (turns out developers and then again a few select ones knew a total of 2 weeks before they annouced the thing.

My point of this is to belive sony at your own peril, because all i see is rubbish and dross coming from their mouths (to be fair they have recently stopped saying so much rubbish, the odd bit slips out now and again).

PS3 march 2007 i say this again is a big ask, specially since the wonderfull blue-ray diode seems to be a pain in the bottom to make and will be for another 6 months before production can run smoothly for that part.

Sep 2007 is a better bet right now.
The_Hun1 on 21 Dec '06
i am not a Virtua Fighter fan, so it doesnt really matter to me. but i do think that the d-pad on the ps2/ps3 is better than the 360 d-pad. i am hesitant to buying any fighter on the 360 after wasting money on DoA4. all that matters to me is soul calibur 4, whether it is multiplatform or exclusive i do not care, i just want it.
MusashiX2 on 21 Dec '06
i think that they have moved to a 360 version for the plain fact that more people have a 360 and its lookin that it will always be this way too expecially wiv the ps3 being delayed in europe.

I'm pretty sure C&VG are talking about the UK launch, whereas the ign article states that it will be launched on PS3 on Feb. the 20th in North America. There's no way to twist this news into a positive for Sony, that's one hell of a blow to them.

That is all!

Speaking to reporters in Tokyo, Sony Corp. President Ryoji Chubachi :

"Sony also expects to meet its shipment target of 6 million PS3 ready by the end of the fiscal year ending March and will launch its next generation system in Europe as soon as possible, Chubachi said."

Based on that ,i'm getting another one ,just so i can watch an "up to 1080p" bluray film & play VF5 at the same time.
fr@ser on 21 Dec '06
And if/when bluray fails in the battle with HD DVD I will buy s**t loads of available HD DVD’s Laughing
DaRockwilder1 on 21 Dec '06
Why do some sad people still think that Sony will keep their word about the march release.

Look Sony have hardly ever kept their word on anything worth while & do not be surpised if the march launch becomes the September or even later launch.

But back on subject VF5 was the only game that "was" exclusive to PS3 that I wanted & now its on 360 as well I dont have to bother with sony's over priced forced new format machine I think I will now spend my money on more quality titles for my 360 & buy a Wii as well. LaughingVery Happy
Richyrich316 on 21 Dec '06
YES!!!! Microsoft have totally won me over now, VF5 was my only reason to get a PS3 apart from MGS4, but now theres going to be no PS3 in my games collection which is quite a large one at that, check most of it out at: http://uk.gamespot.com/users/rezapoc/games_table?mode=own

If Sony never keep their word, the PS3 will never see the light of day in Europe hehe

Absolutely. VF5 was the only thing that had me looking at the PS3.

Why buy a PS3 now? Bu-bye Sony!
csdaveuk on 22 Dec '06
I PERSONALLY COULDN'T CARELESS ABOUT VF BUT IT'S ANOTHER ONE IN THE EYES FOR THE SONY FANNIES!!
hollywood111 on 22 Dec '06
Another one of the many "PS3 exclusives" that microsoft has cracked. Sony has gotta be feeling some pressure at this point.
0v3rki11 on 24 Dec '06
Well, there goes the last and ONLY possible incentive for me to buy the PS3. Not that I was going to buy it in the first place, but Sony just lost everything that COULD'VE made a difference.
