A well-placed source - who wishes to remain anonymous - has informed CVG that an announcement from Sony on complete, concrete PS3 Euro launch details is "likely to go ahead at the end of January".

I can't wait to see the console launch in Europe, not because i want one, because i'm curious to see how many people are going to actually buy one.
Like most people, i think it's too expensive and a waste without me also buying an HDTV. Of course i wouldn't say no thank you if i got one as a gift, but i won't be buying one until it's half the price and i have bought an HDTV.

New PS3 owners can look forward to a summer draught of software then a few weeks after it comes out, dont worry i managed to make to with the games i got for my xbox when that came out in march 2002, but it was hard going thougg, and the ps3 launch line up dosnt look great either.

I think you are in for a dissapointment then, knowing sony & the way they do business it will be more like a kick in the balls than a tingle.
If they launch in March it wont be anything spectacular as most of the games that people say they want it for are not anywhere near finished & most of the others will be games that are already out on 360 anyways

No I won't get one because their online sucks. Don't forget to get the cables to hook it up to your HDTV because the PS3 doesn't include them in any form. "High Def gaming doesn't start until the PS3 launches (Sony)". It appears HD gaming doesn't start with the PS3 until you go out and drop another $40 on component cables or WAY MORE on the HDMI cable. Blu Ray? LOL enjoy the hell out of it while it last I'm afraid in a scant few years all this stuff will be downloadable and your Blu Ray collection will be as obsolete as I'm sure your Betamax collection is.

in my opinon over priced and i can get the games i want to play on the 360.
there won't be exlusives as the cost is too high to produce a game these days and the games companies are there to turn a profit not just make it for the love of it.

What made me laugh is that Universal studios are planning to release their movies on a disk that is HD-DVD on one side and Blueray on the other. If other studios do the same thing then I guess both formats will win, and both Sony (Blueray) and Microsoft (HD-DVD) can finally stop bitching like two little school girls. No the BD or HD DVD won't become obsolete before one of them wins because some people would rather like to go to their friends house to play or borrow the DVDs from their friends, family, etc. than buy a soft copy of the game which would have to be dl'd again if the game is deleted for any reason.

Because as much as people keep complaining about it, me included, it has so much potential and could be such a great games machine and we cling to that hope that it will eventually fulfil this potential, but Sony just seem to be doing their level best to blow holes in the ship with dumb statements, questionable decisions and a seemingly crazy amount of contempt for customers and developers.
No it won't. The launch games fall into 3 categories...
1) I've either already finished them ages ago on the 360 2) They're typical EA rubbish 3) Vaguely interesting
Of the launch games the only two that stand out are resistence and Motorstom. I've played Resistence on an import machine and was completely underwhelmed (got bored and turned it off within an hour). Motorstorm may be ok, but I'm not holding out too much hope.
That's the main reason I won;t be getting one at launch. I just don't see the point with the limp games lineup. I'm going to wait until there's something worth getting...

True. But from what I've heard is the live makes the ps3 service look very cheap and thrown together by comparison. They've got some catchup to do that's for sure. Plus theres rumours that there will be charges on the PS3 service to play some games online etc, so it may not turn out to be as free as you are expecting...
haha spot on! nah, for once i think sony has designed a decent looking console..it looks better than the others when its standing up, but lieing horizontally is a different matter...
i too will be holding off even thinking about buying one until theyre cheap, or have more games.
Between the endless onslaught of EA franchises and decent sequels, there are actually a lot of apparently good games out at launch. this is probably the best launch line up ever seen for a console and no amount of moaning will change that!

Disney & some others maybe doing BR exclusive for now but if the format does not take off that well they will also release their movies on HD-DVD its all about money at the end of the day & if they can make a killing on HD-DVD they wont back another format if it means not making as much cash as possible

15 of those games are or will be available for 360 look just as good on 360 play probably better on 360 seeing as the Xbox pad is a better design in my opinion, & saying that few people in Europe own a 360 is 1 of the most stupid statements I have ever seen posted or heard on any forum ever.
And with 15 of those games coming or already out on 360 months & months before the PS3 even arrives in Europe & then expecting people to fork out £500+ when you include extras on top of buying the standard machine so you can get games that have been out for ages on another format is not spectacular its appaling.
And as for paying for Live well if you think that sony's service will equal or better Live then I think you may well be dissapointed & dont believe for a minute that there wont be charges at some stage for online play on PS3 sony may wave the costs on their own titles but I dont think it will be long before 3rd parties are charging for their games as if they dont just who is going to pay for the upkeep of the servers & updates & patches etc?? These things cost the developers money you know & the 1 off cost of buying the game is not going to cover that continual expense so the cash will have to come from somewhere & it will most likely be the players that will foot the bill in some form or another.

yea, but you seem to be forgetting that the vast majority of Ps2 and xbox games were multiplatform. the vast majority of those multiplatform games dont look very interesting anyway. there are a few that should be great but the exclusive titles do look an entirely different class.

So you're buying a PS3 because of Blu-ray & you've got a 42" Plasma. Hope it isn't 720p then because the PS3 can't output Blu-ray films at 720p unlike the 360 which has a hardware scaler chip in it and can output at any of its resolutions.
The reason people keep commenting on the PS3 is because they – and I included my self in that – can’t understand what the fuss is about. Here comes the next Sony console, it’s more than a year behind the Xbox360 but doesn’t seem to produce any real visual difference, its on line service seems a bit lacking, its biggest boast is an unproven disc format, take away all of its launch line up games that aren’t available on the 360 and there are no “must have games” left in sight, it’s wildly expensive and everyone knows it will come down in price, so why, for the love of all that is good, why would anyone buy it at launch? Too demonstrate your wealth? Maybe it’s simple because they are Sony and if that is the case maybe you should be commended for your loyalty. But maybe its time to question that loyalty, because Sony don’t treat you with any sort of respect what so ever.
On another note, aren’t you slightly worried that the PS3 will be a bit unreliable? They have had so much trouble making the blue laser thing that I’d be concerned over how durable it will be. The PS2 didn’t seem able to cope with the demands put on it for much more than a couple of years at a time, the first few batches of 360 weren’t very reliable either.

Well look at it this way . X360 in the US is selling pretty much the same as the original Xbox did .By its 14 month out the Xbox had sold the same as the X360 right now if not a little better .
That in the US ,the X360 stronghold .
In Europe it is selling way worse ,with monthly sales lagging about 80 000 consoles per month for most of the past year .The actual EU X360 user base is about half the US one ,so it has effectively sold half as good as the original Xbox in Europe (actually not so bad as the Xbox wasnt 50%-50% between US and Europe but more like 60%-40%) ) .
Plus ,from the 2.3-2.4 million consoles sold in Europe more nearly half are in UK .The rest of the EU isnt buying too many X360 consoles .Trying to argue with that is pointless ,data speaks itself .
So if that for you is selling like hotcakes and a lot of people having the console in Europe you can fool yourself as much as you want .Nearly 90% of the EU consumers havent upgraded their console and those games will be as good as new in the Playstation 3 .
A server costs nearly nothing ,it can be a PIV with the adecuate bandwith thats all .You are being fooled by Microsoft to pay for the matchmaking online play that has been always free on the PC gaming .MMORPG ,on the other way ,are being charged apart in the Live and probably will in the PS3 .
I wont be online all the day , I will play some games online and others not .I ,as many gamers ,are more of the adventure/RPG/arcade lovers .The PC-lime gamers of deathmatch FPS games is the usual breed of the X360.For me a service of 10 out of ten but paying and another one of 7 or 8 out of ten for free I will stick with the later all the days in the week .

Innovative titles, blu-ray, original games...are you looking at a different console to PS3, than we are? Ps3 has no decent games, not one, XBox360 has lot's of world class games, and when PS3 is released over here, not only will we be playing Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty, and several other games that are second generation xbox360 games, we will have a more advanced online service, when PS3 has not even got an online service properly running, recordable tv, more xbox live arcade games, more demos, and did i mention all the exclusives once owned by Playstation, are not exclusive anymore and appear on XBox360..so you go ahead, buy your rip off over price, no fun, no games, PS3 while we enjoy fun, cheaper, second generation x360 games and our Wii also.

Well here's one for you Xbozos. If in a year's time the PS3 is still around and decent ass games appear on it and the price is cheaper will you get one then? FFS, just enjoy the unique games that each console offers or climb back to your amoeba-sized hell holes where you climbed out from. Personally I'm getting a PS3 and (yes!) because it has got blu-ray, yes because it's got MSG, FF, Devil may cry, Singstar, etc. And yes because it can hook up wih my PSP and yes because my family can use it. Yes because innovative titles do come out on the playstation brand and yes I simply like their sleek designs. Will get a 360 later but probs 2nd hand at £100 or less. Most of the flippin games will come out on my PC anyways which are easier to control. Come on PS3 come hook up with my 42" plasma and enjoy next-gen gaming as it was meant to be!
Innovative titles, blu-ray, original games...are you looking at a different console to PS3, than we are? Ps3 has no decent games, not one, XBox360 has lot's of world class games, and when PS3 is released over here, not only will we be playing Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty, and several other games that are second generation xbox360 games, we will have a more advanced online service, when PS3 has not even got an online service properly running, recordable tv, more xbox live arcade games, more demos, and did i mention all the exclusives once owned by Playstation, are not exclusive anymore and appear on XBox360..so you go ahead, buy your rip off over price, no fun, no games, PS3 while we enjoy fun, cheaper, second generation x360 games and our Wii also.

Pathetic excuse? Put it this way. If I bought a car years ago and thought it was so good, I'd buy it again in it's new form, I'd be fairly miffed if I knew it was going to cost me 70% more, have no climate control and only be in one type of engine. Sony have abused europe and there's no way of hiding that fact, every through deluded fanboy rants.
