Duke Nukem screenshot IS "in-game" says 3D Realms

"...That's an in-game, real-time shot of Duke standing in a random hallway", says the dev
A Duke Nukem Forever image appearing in a job advert that caused a few ripples on the internet last Friday is in-game, according to 3D Realms.

"...That's an in game, real-time shot of Duke standing in a random hallway. It was really done as a small teaser for a job ad on Gamasutra. Nothing more", the developer's George Broussard stated on 3D Realms forums in a thread about the image.

"I'm glad some of you enjoyed it," Broussard continued, adding "we'll show more later as we start to wake from our slumber and decide how best to show the game off."

In the same thread, 3D Realms staffer Joe Siegler promised that "When we open the floodgates, you won't have to do any convincing - the game will do it's own convincing" in response to poster Spooger asking to get the DNF image in high-res as "I'm having trouble convincing some friends that DNF is the second coming of Christ with a 200x100 pixel pic".

Maybe this time next year we will have the first actual footage of the game Rolling Eyes

If it is truly coming, then Wahoooaa Very HappySmileLaughing

The screenshot, although small, looked good.

looks promising, maybe 10 years and umpteen engine changes can make a top game after all. We will have to (as usual) wait.

It's done when it's done... rings a bell.
Rolling Eyes

Better be coming to the 360 as well...actually, on second thoughts, just release it, I don't want to be waiting ANOTHER 10 years to see it!
whitepony888 on 29 Jan '07
i think they are gearing up for a lanch this year as in a previous interview, george broussard said that in future they would release information at the most a year before the game shipped, so expect it in the next year or so.
eddiehitler on 29 Jan '07
And after ten years in the making, I bet it will be....alright
chris_gower on 29 Jan '07
Does anyone remember screen shots of it released years and years ago in some sort of Wild West setting? It looked pretty cool back then. I'd like to see those shots again!

Yeah i remember those, done on the Half Life/Quake engine wasn't it?

Still looking forward to this game, has anyone on here played Duke Nukem 3D 'HiRes' Edition? Basically its the original Duke 3D with 3D (rather than sprite) models, play it and be reminded why duke was so f**king good back in the day...still holds up as a balls out shooter with plenty of great moments and atmosphere

You'll eat your asshat?

I really dont get why people are still excited about duke. After 3D, all the attempts were incredibly dumb, shallow cash-ins that totally destroyed the character and fame of the original. More recently, Prey was a good attempt but it really didn't offer anything that great or special. It was Quake style gameplay all over again with a couple of gimmicks that were hyped to hell and back. The gravity tricks really didn't add that much to the whole thing in the end.

Given that, why is everyone expecting the company's next game to be so grand? I think you're all in for a let down. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong but I can't see the minds behind Prey coming up with something that will be special in any way, especially if they thought Prey really was as special as they hyped it...

I really enjoyed Duke 3d on PC & Saturn (the best console version) And I hope that they can recapture that in this new edition.
Richyrich316 on 30 Jan '07
There goes all my good DNF puns.
David3k on 30 Jan '07
I honestly wonder if this game will ever see the light of day...
Cheesefiend on 30 Jan '07
Another DNF screenshot? Haven't we been here before? Give me a demo and I'll give a damn.
csdaveuk on 31 Jan '07
Do you mean this video!?

Be interesting to see how they have improved on this in 5 years!!!

God, I haven't seen that in ages. But to be fair, that last game engine from the screenshot actually looked pretty good, even by today's standards.
