Is Sony going to use shooter Killzone PS3 to steal some of Microsoft's Halo 3 multiplayer beta thunder this spring?
Well, that's what a rumour on 1UP.com is suggesting, saying that a demo of the PS3 sequel that was last in the public eye at E3 2005 will actually appear before the Halo 3 beta begins.
It's additionally rumoured that Killzone PS3 is well into development - so far in fact that the online section of the game has existed in playable form for nearly a year. Coupled with the demo rumour, it implies that the game could well release before Halo 3.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe was unavailable for comment on the rumours at the time of writing.
The first Killzone game was massively hyped and turned out to be disappointing. Will Sony and developer Guerrilla set things to rights with the PS3 sequel? We can but wait and see.
Shouldn't it be 'The first Killzone game was... a massive disappointment'? It doesn't make sense saying 'dissapointing'
Though that's still one of the best things I've heard for a while 'cos one of my 'Sony fanboy' friends keeps telling me what an 'amazing' game the first Killzone game is & how the sequel is going to be one of the 'killer titles' on the PS3
lets hope they actually deliver cos its a dead franchise if they dont. and lets face it a bit of competition with halo 3 would help ignite the console war.
I don't know why Sony will think this'll help, Killzone flopped so why would people want a second one. Halo has been a big success right from the start.

Yeah well I want a 2nd one f**k face, alot of people on here draw assumptions........and bum bill gates.
Looks like CVG corrected its grammatical error. Shame though, I thought it was better when it said "The first Killzone game was massively hyped and turned out to be massively disappointing"
There's no way this will affect Halo at all. The Japanes don't seem to care for FPS' at all, the yanks only ever seem to play Madden and Halo anyway and there're only going to be about three people in Europe who own a PS3 by the time the Halo Beta starts by the sound of it. I'm interested to see how Killzone plays though. The first one had a lot of faults but the series has a lot of potential and the art direction is cool... Lets just hope you can at least jump up curbs in this one, eh.
As someone who plans on buying the PS3 at the end of March I'm really hoping that Killzone matches that "target footage" shown at E3 2005, mainly because Sony have said time and time again that the footage was "made to PS3 specifications". And they don't lie, do they?
That said, MotorStorm, another game also shown at E3 2005 in "pre-rendered form" doesn't look anywhere near as slick or spectacular as a finished game judging by the videos and demo I've seen (but it still looks good!) so something tells me that Killzone won't either.
I thought PS2 Killzone was overhyped rubbish personally but I'm willing to believe that Guerilla *are* capable of making an above-average game and that Killzone on the PS3 will be that game. I still can't see it being a Halo beater though, I don't think the developers are quite as talented as Bungie...
Wasn't Killzone 2 one of the games Sony made FMV footage for and claimed it was in-game?
Are there any in-game shots yet?
If this is anywhere near as good as Resistance: Fall of Man, I'll eat my PS3.
hmmmm Tasty!!!! IMO i think sony have a AAA title on the way with this bad boy! since nobody has seen the game since E305 you would think they have made something a little better than RFOM! but for your sake you better hope not! i don't think a PS3 is going to pass through your brown eye too well

So they new about Sony's online plans before Sony did. There were many developers that took online out of their games because they couldn't get any information about Sony's online plans so to suggest that these people new over a year ago is bullsh*t.
Halo really isn't all that, I'll be too busy playing Crackdown to give a hell about the stupid Halo 3 beta.
I hope Killzone 2 is better than Halo 3, that way Bungie might put a bit more effort into their future games instead of getting universal praise by the fanboys everytime they release some bullsh*t info about the length of the assault rifle.

Yeah, it's unbelieveable isn't it? Bungie release any little tidbit of news and it's all over the internet, making headlines everywhere.
"The assault rifle is now 25.5 inches long instaed of the usual 25.3" Headline: Radical changes to Halo 3 bottomnal! OMG TEH AZZAULT RIFFLE IS TOLLY GONA BE TEH CHANGEDZX!
"One of the developers farted yesterday" Headline: Halo 3 Developer Farts - Screenshots inside! OMG TEH HALO3 WILL LET U TEH FARTZ WHILE U PLAYZ IT!!
Neither Halo 3 or Killzone 2 will be anything worth writing home about imo.

Yeah don't get me wrong, all that Halo 3 BS p**ses me off about dimensions of AR etc.. However bottom line is that Bungie has delivered two of the best games in recent memory and Halo 3 has a high probability of being as good or better. Killzone is a decent game but i'm afraid it just isn't in the same league.
If you take away all the hype and base your opinions on what they have already delivered then the sensible assumption is that Halo 3 will be by far the better game.
Saying that though - I hate multiplayer games - the single player portion of Halo 2 was rubbish (which means I thought it was rubbish). Just make it like Halo: Combat Evolved and I'll pretend the last game didn't happen.
everyone knows the reason that the previous killzone wasnt up to the standard it was meant to be is because the ps2 was inadequate for such a game. the ps3 is more than capable of producing a great game if the talent is there. i expect a solid game that will have people talking. "halo 2 one of the best games of recent years" is a laughable statement by the way omarsays.

You may find it laughable but millions of other people, myself included, don't seem to. It seems to me that it's been seen as cool to snipe Halo 2 for a while by elitist snobs... The same type of people who slag off a band they like just because they got popular. If you genuinely don't like it, fair enough, don't belittle people who do. I don't see the appeal of GTA but I don't slag off the milloins that do.
I always thought of killzone as being fairly solid (granted the ps2 lacked xbox's horse power) and in all honesty i probably only played upto the 3rd level..i then turned on the multiplayer... this was 3 yrs ago...i still play online every so often (it IS that good) it's a shame that when the reviews came out it was slated on its single player campaign and very little was mentioned about its multiplayer capabilities..which is a crying shame...online (for free) on the ps2 its up there with BFMC...solid as a rock-plent of players...updates to fix bugs..etc.... guerrilla certainly know their biscuits with the online side of things....very talented...check out liberation on the PSP (it garnered rave reviews) watch this space
I found Killzone to be a good game, largely let down by the hardware it was running on. I know Sony's been a little lax, lately; but to pit Halo 3 beta against the KiIIzon3 demo, would be ridiculous. The first game was touted as a Halo-killer. Imagine if the "rematch" turned out to a similar outcome as the first time these two clashed. You don't need to give people the chance, before the game's even released, to be saying that Halo 3 outclasses it. That's a stigma that would stick, would indeed ignite console (flame) wars, but would not work in Killzone's favour to any degree.
Is it worth the risk, considering Sony can't see its opponent before battle commences? Additionally, this could be spun to an angle of this being a desperation move on Sony's part, to try to get the US onside, so that a sufficient install base exists to make further large-scale projects on PS3 appealing to developers.
As for the Chief's beta...Halo, on an epic scale, simply = HS! I doubt Sony would gamble on pitting these two head-to-head. The numbers don't exist to make that viable, and they've prob. got as much idea as the rest of us on when the H3 beta will commence.
What next sony annouce that killzone 2 will launch the same day as halo 3 in the states? only for it to disappear in games abyss the same day.
Seriously if sony want killzone 2 to do well, then they need to get it out a few months after halo 3 has come and gone, and people are just getting over the single player ending. HAlo 2 killed killzone on PS2 and that was an old game by the time killzone came out.
I wonder if killzone 2 will look better than the ''footage'' showen at e32005, i mean its almost 3 years now since that was showen or will be by the time the game comes out.
So they want to go head to head with Halo 3 What a mistake I think that would be for Sony as lets face it a lot of people bitch about certain things with the Halo games but IMO they are 2 great titles in terms of gameplay & Killzone was nowhere near as good.
Now they want to go head on with the 3rd installment of Halo with a franchise that in its 1st part was vastly inferior, I hope that they change their minds on this strategy & wait until the hype of Halo has passed because if Killzone 2 is not as good as Halo 3 Sony will be left with egg all over their face again

Dude, I have nothing against you, but you aaaaalways post extremely positive views about Sony and whatever they come up with. Good for you, since you either work for Sony in some form or another, or rather are the happiest person in the world everytime you buy Sony stuff.
Killzone was crap. Let's hope the sequel is any good. No more crap Sony, start delivering. And 599 Euros isn't the right place to start...
All the Halo3 hype is stupid but what you need to do is not read it then and maybe they will get the hint. Who cares if the rifle is longer, I wouldn't know because I DON'T BOTHER READING IT! I'm also no fan of this H3 beta bulls**t. I don't feel like buying a s**t game IMO like Crackdown just so I can play a demo. I'm also not too fond of the headstart these loser will get on the rest of us who don't live in our folks basement and have to work. By the time normal people get H3 these morons will know every trick in the book. You can't come late to the party online in a game as big as Halo. You'll just get so schooled over and over that you'll just set it aside and get p**sed.
The first Killzone was practically ruined by its own hype, and the same thing might possibly happen for the sequel, as it seems to have stacks of hype at the minute, but I'm not convinced.
The original was meant to be really good, so I played it and thought that it was one of the most bland and uninventive fps's that I have ever played. It felt far too slow and unresponsive, and didn't bring anything new to the genre what so ever.
Very disappointing it was indeed.
Halo on the other hand is great. I own all of the last gen consoles at the minute, and am into pc gaming a lot, so I'd say that I have a good and unbiased view on most games, but I just don't see killzone going anywhere quite frankly. So Halo wins it this time, and the third in the series looks set to be a big release already.
On the topic of PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4 does look good however, and Sony will be wise if they stay friendly with Konami and keep it as an exclusive to the PS3, because at the minute, the PS3 has a very poor line up of game titles. It's sad, but true.

I couldn't agree more. First and foremost, who gives a crap about the length of a weapon? Sure, it's great they thought they should make this or the other weapon more or less powerful/accurate/silent/what have you. But making that news? Pathetic.
As for all this Beta craze, I have my doubts about that too. Not like I'm bothered about people schooling me online, I don't game online that much so this side of sports games I always run with the pack, nothig more, and I really can't pretend I'm in uni and game 24/7 anyway... Still, IMO all this HL3 beta craze is a load of BS.

Blaming Killzone's failings on underpowered hardware is a lame excuse. More power does not mean a better game.
Halo 2 was in my opinion one of the best games in recent years. From 112 reviews it's average score is 95% (gamerankings.com) and about 8 million people bought it. It appears other people agree with me...
I dont think that Bungie really need to hype Halo 3 at all as the world & their uncle know its coming & that it will most likely be at the very least a very very good game
Killzone in my opinion was not limited by the hardware it was on but more than likely some rushed lazy programming as Sony wanted to get it out onto shelves & not delay it.
Anyway's Playstation pads are Sh1t for FPS games so the enjoyment is hampered the minute you pick up the controller.
people are saying that killzone wasnt better because of the developers not the hardware yet ask yourselves if halo would have been possible on ps2? the art design and original vision for killzone showed massive promise this time round the harware is up to the job.

Yea I agree, i spent all of my Killzone one days being told Halo was amazing and whiped the floor with Killzone . I played it for the first time last week and forced myself to play at least 5 levels and its just not as good as everone says it is. Im not saying Killzone is better but beating Halo doesnt seem as hard as everyone makes out.
