Why the Genji crab really exists - the truth at last!

"I'm allergic to crabs," says Genji creator
Ever wondered why Genji: Days Of The Blade features a giant crab marauding around its otherwise (reasonably) faithful to history feudal Japanese landscapes? We've been digging and we know.

It's because Days Of The Blade's creator, Yoshiki Okamoto, is allergic to crabs. Quite. "Obviously no-one among us believes there were giant crabs in feudal Japan," said Okamoto via his translator. "But Okamoto-san is allergic to crabs and that's the reason why, if you find its weak point, you can kill it with one blow. It's Okamoto's way of defeating the crab he hates."

For more crab-based news bombshells, see the next issue of PSM3, out on February 15 - including why Okamoto admits the Genji team "might have given up a little bit of the gameplay"...

Good to hear about the crab allergy! As for the game itself, it's actually a pretty impressive looking game. It looks very fantastic at times, one of the more impressive next gen games out, I'd say (probably in my top 10).

It would have been much better had they given full control of camera or at least opted for some better view points, as it is, it's occasionally frustrating and frequently caused me to think "wtf were they thinking". With better camera, I think it could have been a pretty decent game (nothing fantastic, but certainly enjoyable).

Kind of curious what their next game will be (as Genji story seems over, who knows though)... if they pulled that off with little to no SPE usage and only a year or so PS3 dev time, I think they could pull off something quite amazing looking on a second try (and if they made a game where camera didn't matter, then they might be able to actually make a good game)!
