New formats confirmed for Virtual Console

Nintendo to add NEO GEO and MSX support to the Virtual Console in spring 2007
Games for the NEO GEO and MSX formats will be made available to download onto Wii as Nintendo expands its Virtual Console service.

The update, which is currently only confirmed for the Japanese Virtual Console, is due to be made in spring.

Nintendo had previously announced that the MSX was on its way to the Virtual Console, and Nintendo's official Japanese website has confirmed that two games, Eggy and Aleste, will be among the first available for the format. MSX games will cost 800 Wii Points.

The Virtual Console will also see increased third-party support with companies Spike, G-Mode, Pony Canyon and SNK all pledging to throw games at the service.

This should mean heaven for fans of 2D beat-'em-ups with games like Samurai Shodown, Art of Fighting, King of Fighters and SNK vs Capcom all possibilities for Wii.

And the comming of MSX brings with it the possibility that legendary space trade sim, Elite, could make its way to Wii.

CVG contacted Nintendo, who has "no further details at this time" in regards to when Europe might see these updates.

Ahh, that's brought back memories. I had a C16 when I was a kid and Kickstart was the best game for the system!! Very Happy Bring back Booty and Spikey Harold too.

Neo-Geo games are superb, well they should have been for the original prices!
Regarding C16, it was announced last september odd that C64 support has been confirmed for sometime in 2007, so plenty of classics there.
Mind you if they are anymore than 100 points a pop they wont be worth it unless they do 10 games packs at 800 points or something.

It's very simple, Nintendo. This update must reach European and US Wii consoles.

Neo Geo games on Wii? OH MY GOD I MIGHT CREAM MYSELF!

As a Wii owner, I really wish Nintendo would put as much effort into releasing *actual* Wii games for the system as they do the Virtual Console. Rolling Eyes

Neo Geo, woot!

Now, all we need on there is the BBC Model B, and we're all set! Cool

Same as. don't know about anyone else but IMO the line up of Wii games coming out looks a bit sh*t! im sorry but games like Pokemon and Cooking Mama Cook Off just don't float my boat! Please say games like Mario and metroid are not the only good AAA games coming out for the Wii this year?!?!
English_Crusader on 23 Feb '07
Couldn't agree more. To be honest, I don't even know what the hell is released for Wii this year, and that's bad.

On my radar I know of:

* Sonic
* Dragon Quest Swords
* SSX
* Mario Galaxy
* Metroid
* Eledees

That's all I can think of right now in my drunken state. And that's bad, folks.

Next the Saturn and the Dreamcast and I'll be sweet

that would be brilliant! i would probably actually but a wii just for that since its hard to find any good games for the DC now.

one problem, doesnt a console have to twice as powerful as the emulated console for it to work? that would rule out DC.

The size of the ROMs also rules out both of those consoles. Saturn games on CD would be between 300 to 700MBs. Dreamcast up to 1 Gig. They would take AGES to download, not to mention most of them wouldn't fit on Wii's 512MB of internal memory.
