A forum poster asked "Will the HDMI output on the revised 360 require any code changes", to which Hargreaves replied, "No changes required".
Certain parties are taking this as 100% confirmation that HDMI Xbox 360 is on the way; however we're still awaiting any official announcement from Microsoft.
UPDATE: A further report on the Elite 360, this time from Dean Takahashi at The Mercury News, says that the new version of the console will support IPTV. Takahashi also goes as far as to say "It's true that Microsoft is preparing to announce the Xbox 360 Elite, a version of the game console with black plastic and advanced features."
MS before launch.. " we dont need Hdmi or 1080p no one will use it or ask for it.. roll forward to 2007 MS after launch " oh damn we do need them better get a firmware update for 1080p and oh yeah lets rip off the masses and release a new 360 model with the stuff that should have been there in the first place".

What a load of s**te! The new 360 can only be a good thing, you're obviously just a biased fanboy looking to cause an argument.

Don't be so blind. YOU might not care about a better spec'd 360 coming out, but the vast majority of 360 owners will.
It's been out over a year now and people like to feel they get about 4-5 years out of a console. You can't just release new ones every year with upgraded components, that goes against the entire ethos of being a console gamer, and is stepping on the toes of PC gaming.
IMO if microsoft release this 'Elite' 360, they've openly admitted the first offering of 360 was below par, compared to say, ooooh, a PS3.
You may disagree, but look at it this way, within the space of the 360's very short lifetime, they are giving the Elite everything the PS3 has (bar the bluray drive).
Nice chunky hard drive? Check Wifi as standard? Check HDMI Port? Check Shiny and Black? Check
If you can't see how ridiculous that is, then you sir are blind. But as i say, if they release a new console with all those things on so soon after the original 360 launched, microsoft will look weak, and not too bright at working out what makes a console future proof

Everything that is being included in this new 360 will most likely be available to owners of the older model anyway in some form so why should I feel ripped off as I have been enjoying 360 games since its launch & this newer version is aimed at those who want a "media hub type of console" a bit like that new over priced shiny 1 you recently bought.
I & pretty much most others I think will agree that we bought our 360's to play games on, a bigger HDD will most likely be made available to owners of the older models & HDMI is not that important to most 360 users as they probably dont have or want to spend a grand upwards on a TV that adequatly supports it.
BTW if its black it will most likely be in a matt finish like the current model so you wont notice every single finger print on it. Built in Wifi will only be an advantage to those who want it as most 360's are most likely connected via cables anyway to the internet.

Yah, releasing an updated version every 18-24 months has been a horrible plan for Nintendo with the Gameboys and DS's.

Exactly, in my opinion the move doesn't say to me that microsoft f**ked up or anything, they are realising what works and what people want, and are giving it to them....unlike the PS3 which is giving people everything they want and stuff which some don't, with 3 different SKU's for 360 the word 'choice' definitely comes to mind.

Err, what? There are several brands of 42" 1080p TVs available for around Ł950, and you can get a decent 32" 1080p TVs for Ł700 or so. 24" 1080p TVs can be found for Ł400.

Perhaps you can tell us where these 24" and 32" 1080p televisions can be found? Everywhere, I look, anything under 32" has 720p/1080i. Only T.V.s over 37" support true 1080p.

Nope they didnt say that at all. Infact what they did say was at this time, 1080p and HDMI is unecessary, but when its required we will support it.

Think you need to do some research fella, you cannot get 1080p on anything smaller than 40" infact Im fairly positive you wont find it on anything under 42". 1080p is the amount of pixels on a screen, hence the resolution 1980x1080. To get to that resolution you need a large screen.
Secondly any TV at Ł950 is likely to be upscaling and not offering TRUE 1080p. I.E. the Toshiba. The cheapest I've seen a 1080p TV for is Ł1170, the Sharp Aquios.

I agree. Ive owned a 360 since launch, am reasonably happy with it, but would be pretty p**sed off about this.
When i buy a console, i expect it to be standardised, and last several years. I dont want to be left with an inferior model after 18 months.
If this turns out to be true, which i fear it probably will, then ill have to sell my current one and get the latest model as i dont like owning 2nd best.
It does show a lack of confidence of MS' part when compared to the PS3, which i think can only be bad for them. The current premium version is fine, and they should just stick with that, and stay loyal to their early adopters.

When you buy a car and the manufacturer changes the spec at the end of the year, do you feel the need to sell your car and upgrade? Do you upgrade the graphics card in your PC every time that Nvidia or ATI announce a new card? or your CPU everytime AMD or intel release a new chip? The key differences here are the HDMI port and the bigger HDD - the underlying 360 is the same... I really don't see why people are getting worked up here... (unless of course you need the HDMI port)
As for the motives, the larger drive makes sense following their announcements about downloadable movies/TV - I don't see it so much as a reaction to the PS3, although the timing could be better.

Whoops, I actually meant to say monitors, rather than TVs; fully HD compliant (meaning 1080p) 24", 27", 30", and 32" inch widescreen LCD monitors have been available for over a year now. Heck, you can even get 19" LCD monitors capable of 1920x1200.
Since LCD monitors are technogically identical to LCD TVs (they're simply missing speakers and channels), there's no reason actual 1080p TVs of these sizes couldn't exist.
Think you need to do some research fella, you cannot get 1080p on anything smaller than 40" infact Im fairly positive you wont find it on anything under 42". 1080p is the amount of pixels on a screen, hence the resolution 1980x1080. To get to that resolution you need a large screen.
Question: What should you always do before accusing someone else of having not done their research?
Answer: Make sure you've done YOUR research.
I'm sorry to say that in this case, you clearly haven't. While I made a very silly mistake by saying 24" and 32" TVs when I meant monitors (and see my point about the technology being the same anyway), there are most definitely 37" 1080p TVs available. For example:
Philips LCD 37PF9731D
Sharp Aquos LC37XD1E
Westinghouse LVM-37W3
Yes, I'm aware that several of those cost more than a grand, but I have been asked to prove that are such a thing as 37" 1080p TVs, not to provide specific examples of sub-Ł1000 models. But to show I wasn't BSing about 42" 1080p TVs being available for under a grand:
ill have to sell my current one and get the latest model as i dont like owning 2nd best.

Your example is flawed, you cannot compare what you stated with a console. It is assumed and implied that a console stays the same throughout its lifespan.
When you purchase a console, you do so under certain assumptions, including that the specification will not be changed. It has always been this way. I do not want to have to keep changing my console in order to feel i am gaining the full benefit from my setup.
I am bothered by this decision as i was lead to believe when i bought my premium console, that i was buying the top of the range 360, and it would stay that way.
