The secret HD mode in God of War II has been dropped from the European release as the disc space was required for all the extra European languages.
It didn't take US gamers long to discover that God of War II on PS2 contained a very pleasant upscaling surprise. Fans soon discovered two puzzles on God of War that, once solved, lead to details on how to get God of War II running in 480p.
But just as we're getting excited over the upcoming UK release, word comes from Sony that this option won't be available in our version. A Sony Europe spokesperson told CVG this afternoon, "This option isn't available in the European release because there wasn't enough space on the disc to allow for it. Whereas the US version still had enough room to incorporate this feature it had to be removed for ours because we had to use the final disc space for localisation (all the extra European languages)."
It's a shame but couldn't be avoided, according to Sony. There is hope though if you have a PS3. GOW2 will work from launch on your PS3 and the next-gen console upscales the game to 576p, provided you use the HDMI cable.
this is blantantly cos most people who would like gow2 in hd is ps3 owners, the us ps3 has ps2 hardware in and the pal ones have software emualtion i bet the emulation cant handle it running in hd properly
As the man says it's not HD!! Our Pal version with 576i will look more detailed than their 480p version. If you have a progressive scan tv, ie virtualy any flat panel display, it has to de-interlace it anyway.
fuxsake that just p!ss sony you are now pushing your luck with europe we are not a force to be recken with! you take to much and give so little we are a very importint place for game and now you are takeing us for granted sony must be thinking oh europe don't mind getting games last and being made to watch as usa and japan play online and met other people from other countionts and haveing a laugh coz the time they get something is when the rest of the world has all ready got all the new titles for that sersis. oh and because i feel like it
they are angry gamers and there are a lot more of them out there so you better treat ous with respet
I'd like to be the first to point out that,480 progressive ,is not "HIGH DEFINITION", it is in fact ,classed as "EDTV"(enhanced definition tv)games that run in this resolution are typically running at 60hz(frames)!
There is hope though if you have a PS3. GOW2 will work from launch on your PS3 and the next-gen console upscales the game to 576p
Upscales to 576p(50hz lol)eh,when did they make ps3 capable of upscaling ps2 games?
Those playing ps3 on a standard tv,and using a fully wired RGB scart lead, can enjoy all your games(ps3 ones also)in 50hz(frames ),not in 60hz,play your dvd films also with the same lead, and you can enjoy the same green screen effect that the ps2 had.
You see,ps3 doesn't support 480i(pal60 hz running at full speed,)on a sdtv,you're given only 576i (slow pal 50hz ).
I was just watching the GT comparison video of it, but because I don't have the game, I can't tell what's different or if it's a significant improvement, and I have to say (with an untrained eye), that there's not much notable (if any), differences in the video between HD and SD except for HD having a bit more clarity in some spots. That's not to say how it looks on peoples' TV's, but in that video, I certainly didn't see much
