BioWare's much-anticipated Xbox 360 RPG Mass Effect has finally been pencilled in for release this September, months after the June/July arrival date previously expected, CVG can reveal.
The September release puts Mass Effect in head-to-head competition with fellow first-party RPG Blue Dragon, which is also released that month. This might seem silly to you budding industry analysts, but it's probably just as beneficial for Microsoft to avoid the infamous Summer drought.
Despite what our sources tell us Microsoft is expectedly keeping quiet on the September date, telling CVG this afternoon: "We have not made any official announcement regarding release timing for Mass Effect. At this time, any information about the game's release date is purely rumor and speculation."
BioWare's latest picked up one of the first CVG Most Wanted awards this weekend, and rightly so - because we're quite literally counting the days until its arrival (or at least we are now that we have a date to count down to).
Although I'm a little bit disappointed at having to wait longer, I'm glad Microsoft aren't rushing it out the door like some publishers would do (not pointing any fingers EA..ahem).
Here's hoping the extra time spent on it will make for an even better game!
would be nice if they broke this game down to downloadable episode so we don't have to wait so long for them. For games of this scale. I'm with every1 else on this 1, DON'T RUSH IT OUT!, I'd rather wait another year than get a half baked game. But I think with game development times growing more & more & with games like this that will have a life beyond there disc's anyway, doesn't it make sense to begin Mass Effects life on LIVE?. Then once they have about 20 hours of gameplay & the game get to a natural end or cliff hanger then release the game on disc for all those who havent got LIVE, then give it 6 months & begin the season 2, this way people who download will payless for the game but, yer u wont own anything @ the end of the day, but u'll have the advantage of gettin the episodes sooner & cheaper, like people who dont have Sky to watch Lost, but buy the boxset @ the end of the season??..am i making sense or babbling!? haha.....
I hope it's early September. Not jsut cos i'm impatient either, I think the game deserves plenty of limelight, but September is pushing it awful close to some big big releases...
I was partially expecting this. I thought it was rather strange that they would release a AAA game in summer. Summer is always a dry time for gaming and it will be for all 3 next gen consoles. Why should MS waste a killer game on a summer release when they can save all they have for the fall and blow the competition away.

Considering summer is a dry time for gaming, I think a AAA title would do fantastically well as they would have the market to themselves. EDGE magazine once wrote a really good article about Publishers who push every thing out for Christmas season not realising that there are other more profitable times to sell.
it wouldnt suprise me if this was just for europe, and America get it in june/july..as we always get screwed over...remember Final fantasy 12,kingdom hearts 2..and at the moment metal gear solid for the PSP...games like these, always comes to europe about 4-6 months after American release
First off, this game isn't delayed because it never had a official release date, nor does it have one after this little article.
Secondly, what kind of special Microsoft event did you attend since this is the only little piece of information found about the event and about the so-called delay.
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS GAME ANYMORE, WHERE ARE ALL THESE GOOD GAMES FOR 360? TO BE TRUTHFULL, 360 HAS GOT ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF GOOD GAMES AS THE PS3 AND AT LEAST THEY HAVE A DECENT FIGHTING GAME THE BIG M HASNT REALLY DELIVERED ON WHAT IT SAID ABOUT ALL THESE GAMES, I MEAN ALL I HEAR OUT OF 360 OWNERS IS GEARS OF WAR THIS GEARS OF WAR THAT, IT WAS A GOOD GAME AND I STILL PLAY IT ONLINE, BUT THATS ONLY BECAUSE THERES NOT MUCH ELSE, HONESTLY HANDS UP WHO THINKS GEARS IS A TRULY NEXT GEN TITLE? OTHER THAN THE GRAPHICS THE GAME COULDA BEEN MADE ON A CRUSTY OLD PS1, ANYWAY BACK TO THE POINT, MASS EFFECT IS GONA BE A TRUE NEXT GEN TITLE AND I QUESS THEY JUST NEED THERE TIME TO MAKE IT TRIPPLE A BUT IM NOW FED UP OF MY 360 CAUSE THERES NOTHIN TO PLAY. RANT OVER.
Man, what the hell is going on i haven't bought a 360 game for ages now. Where the hell are all the games i've only seen Guitar Hero II, but i don't think i'm gonna dish out £69.99 on a game. The last game i bought was Final Fantasy XII which is on the ps2 by the way. Come on 360 im bored and i want a new game thats worth buying to play.
So where are the sources? Where's a link to a BioWare developer stating that it's a September release? Huh? There are none? They why the **** would we believe this?
