Factor 5 resurrecting Thornado?

Presumed dead Turrican successor returning? Factor 5 says its been "concepting quite a bit internally" on the Turrican franchise
Factor 5 has hinted at a return for its Turrican franchise, revealing it's conducting concept work on a revival of the 2D side-scrolling action series.

"We've been concepting quite a bit internally. That's another universe creation thing. I was looking at Metroid Prime's reinventing of a franchise that had been out there for quite awhile, and we're facing the same thing with Turrican", Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht told Gamasutra when asked about the "much-rumored" return of Turrican.

"There's aspects of the old games where people will feel betrayed if we don't transform them into the next generation," Eggebrecht continued. "On the other hand, there's other stuff which is simply cheesy, let's face it. I don't think gamers will accept those things anymore. It's a fine line to balance."

You may recall Thornado, an impressive GameCube game in development at Factor 5 that was seen as a semi-successor to the Turrican series, but a project that was eventually binned. But does Eggebrecht's reveal on concept design work mean Thornado is to be resurrected? We'll have to wait and see...

Great news, but please don't turn it into yet another first person shooter!
If done properly, this is a potential system seller to me Smile

Does the fact that there was already a gamecube game in development mean that this is coming to wii?

They've been 'announcing' this game for about a decade now. It was meant to be an N64 game.

I'd say it may materialise as a 2D game on XBLA.

Factor 5 were signed up to work exclusively with Sony shortly after the PS3 was first announced - their next titles will be PSN download games. Sorry to burst your bubbles...

I would buy a PS3 just to play a new Turrican game, 2D or 3D, but only if they got Chris Hulsbeck back to do the music.
