Electronic Arts has lifted the lid on another of its many in-development Wii games, EA Playground (yes, EA is actually in the title); a collection of c-razy mini-games utilising the motion-sensing powers of the Wii Remote.
The Wii version of Playground will sport a roster of frantic remote-waving mini-games such as dodge ball, RC car racing and garden classic swing ball.
There's also a version of Playground pencilled in for DS, with games such as bug hunt and spit balls taking advantage of the DS's stylus and microphone inputs.
"EA Playground is all about capturing the sheer fun of being a kid," exec producer Dave McCarthy told IGN. "We've designed a dream playground full of interesting characters, cool collectables, and most importantly, a mix of easy to pick up and incredibly fun playground games.
"There are some classic favorites in there along with some new twists. It's all packaged together in a meaningful single player "campaign" to play your way through the schoolyard"
It's currently down for a Q3 release in North America and we'll let you know when we hear anything regarding a European release.
At least EA at actually putting some effort into original titles though. This does look very much like their My Sims game, like it should almost be apart of it... Then the £££ idea kicked in.
At this rate, games like Zelda and Mario are gonna be the odd ones on the Wii.
Clearly the only reason for wanting to own a Wii is if you have the attention span of a hyperactive 2 year old.
Mini-game has always said to me - half-bottomd. It's not so bad when minigames are included in a full title, but when you get collections of minigames, it's surely just a way of making quick cash for the developer and publisher?
could be good. get onto Ninty and get them to give you access to the Miis. I just want a Mario Tennis with the nunchuk feature. use that to run, flick it left or right for a jump maybe, and then use the wii remote for the hitting. can be easily done Make it happen Nintendo. and if you're reading this, give me a job, i got tons of fresh ideas for the Wii and how to handle the remote intuitively. I'm wasted here...............

The statement "EA Playground is all about capturing the sheer fun of being a kid" gives more credit to the theory that the game Chris Tayloy hinted at will also be a collection of mini-games, since he said of that game "my inspiration came from watching my boys play."
Seriously, is it really that many children who has bought the Wii? I know 10 people that has a Wii and all are above 15 years old. I also know many minors and they mostly play PS2. Maybe it´s different in other places though
I'm allowing the developers a little while to get into the habit of programming for the motion control methods. After all, it's a bit different and we can't expect them to get it right off the bat.
But that said, if they resort to simply releasing crap mini-games over and over we're gonna have a problem.
I know 2 kids who have a Wii (both under 8 ), but between them they also have a PS2 and an Xbox as well. I'm patiently waiting for my copy of The Godfather to arrive so I can get into some mature Wii content.
I'm sick to death of sugar-sweet, cutesy, colourful, bouncy, spherical character, happy clappy "let's be bestest friends forever" graphics. Give me some serious carnage any day of the week.
Yeah, if any Wii-developer anywhere reads this; WII-GAMERS WANT TO SLASH PEOPLE IN HALF AND HAVE GUTS SPREEING ALL OVER THE PLACE! YOUR GAME WILL SELL GOOD AND YOU WILL MAKE LOTS OF CASH!
