MGS 4 delayed to 2008

PS3's big game gets pushed back from Q4 2007 to March 2008
Metal Gear Solid 4 will now not see the light of day, in the US at least, until March 2008 if reports from major US games retailer, EB Games prove to be accurate.

Customers who have signed up for updates on the progress of Konami's stealth stunner have, according to Gameswank, received and email notifying them that the games release has slipped from September 1 2007 to March 1 2008.

Retailers' release dates aren't always accurate, but this is worrying news for PS3 owners. We'll be contacting Konami for confirmation at a more feasible time in the morning.

Is anyone really surprised, after all the delays with the hardware, you never know it might be Ł200 by then. Sad

Not bothered about the slip. I'll have it when it's ready Smile

lots of good games this year so no worries here Very Happy

No great loss, over-hyped jap-crap in my opinion.

if it's not out until March 2008 in America then f**k knows whwn we'll see it in Europe
chunkyboymania on 14 May '07
did anyone really think that this would be out in 2007? Mark my words, it'll be 2009 before this'll hit the shops

Have to kinda agree with ya was never a fan you always know how this games stand up when, they are ported to the pc and no one cares.
Everyone forgot one thing only reason a game would be delayed for this long is either they cant use the dev technology or they are working on the 360 version, funny enough id pick the later.

yep, if i remember correctly all the rest were out 9 months beforehand in Japan/US, thats 2009, i might actually care by then as the PS3 might have some decent software and be reasonable to pick up in the price department

Who cares,MGS on ps1 was good,MGS on ps2 was like going to the cinama and watching a really bad film.if your going too buy this then you have plenty time to buy your hotdog and popcorn Wink
modge on 14 May '07
No surprise whatsoever here, but it makes me laugh, when any other PS3 game gets delayed then PS3 fanboys say doesnt matter we still have MGS4 this xmas...now they say 'oh we have plenty of other great games to play' lol if and when is the question though....

I agree, MGS 1 was fantastic, great story, cool characters( i.e. the ninja ), had some variety in the environments, i.e. the lava place for the card, had neat stuff like mantis controlling your controller rumble, having to switch to use the other port

I felt the second part of 2 was crap, the first part on the boat was excellent and was what they'd shown everywhere and never once released pix of the rig until the game was out, even the harrier fight was set on the brooklyn bridge but later changed to the rig. The rig had to be the most boring environment ever, completely stale and the story was sooo convoluted i still dont know what its supposed to be about

Thankfully they did a great job of MGS3, but i only finished it once and havnt played it since, ive completed MGS1 about 15 times, at least for the 7.5 hours it takes to complete only about 1 hour of that is movie part which is a good balance.

I dont know about MGS4,ive kinda lost interest in the series, i much prefer online multiplay games now to story heavy games

Not surprising considering GTA4 is out later this year and last time Konami went head to head (sort of) with GTA 3 they were left eating dust.

Huge loss for PS3. They are seriously going to be in the mire come fall. 360 and Wii have at least 3 killer AAA games and all PS3 is left with is GTA 4, which is also on 360.
The only positive news i can make out of this is that perhaps by the time MGS4 comes out, PS3 will be more affordable and have a larger userbase meaning more potential sales...
vulcanraven01 on 14 May '07
Blast! I was looking forward to MGS4. MGS was my most fav game ever!!!
BeNdEr91 on 14 May '07
Ah, well. 2007 seemed too good to be true...
and it wasn't

Still, MGS4 will change my face

according to Gameswank

I can't have been the only person to have noticed this. Quite frankly the "journalism" on this site is appalling!

Metal Gear Solid is, was and always probably will be my least anticipated game for PS3.
MGS1 was IT. It was snappy, brilliant. GOTY material, really made an impact and rightfully so. I tried 2 and 3, and I don't know if it's all the movies, but those ones just overwhelm me. Where's the game? I'm expected to emphasize with characters circumstances, but can't. I liked Revolver Ocelot, and Sniper Wolf. They were CHARACTERS. They lived in their world, with their own backstories, justification for their actions, that you could almost, but not quite...

So, this game...Don't mind waiting.

I assume you've played Warhawk, Lair and Heavenly Sword and know that they are crap otherwise I'd think you wouldn't jump to such conclusions. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is looking pretty good too so maybe you missed that... Christ even Eye of Judgement has the potential to ruin parents' live and wallets.

I think Metal Gear is bigger in the US than Europe so it probably hits them harder than us... That and the fact that I feel MGS went downhill after the first one means that I'm not really that bottomd about it slipping... as long as I get Little Big Planet's demo this side of winter I'll be a happy chappie.

At least there's the new Devil May Cry and whole bunch of other PS3 exclusives to look forward to this year. Cool
ted1138 on 14 May '07
Err, since when has EB been the official home of game release dates? Do they have insider knowledge from Konami? It's a place holder date. It means nothing. They have FFXIII dated as December this year http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=T000503
Is that accurate? No. So is the MGS4 date accurate? Work it out.
Well, maybe MGS4 is coming out next year, but there'll be FFXIII in the meantime....according to EB Games!
Oh, and just to add. They have a nice disclaimer added on the page; "NOTE: Content based on the best available information. Price, release date, content and title are subject to change and/or cancellation by vendor."
Seriously, CVG should know better than to publish this crap. At least put a friggin' ? in the headline!!

I'm just gonna stay out of all the critisism of the MGS. All i will say is that all of the games in the MGS series are great. The 2nd was screwed near the end, and Raiden was the worst decision in the series. The 2nd game in the series is the worst but still has fairly good gameplay.

My main point though, didn't anyone know this? I've known for quite a while. Amazon has been saying that it comes out March 2008 for ages.

That's exactly what I was thinking Laughing
dark_gamer on 14 May '07
i know some of you aren't fans of the series but,for me,mgs 4 was one of only 2 reasons to buy the ps3,FFXIII being the other. the knowledge that they probably won't make europe until late '08/early '09 has damaged the ps3 in my eyes.the lack of exclusives could start to tell, the games i wanted a ps3 for are also coming to the 360 : gta 4,pro evo 7,dmc4 etc... what's the point!? oh yeah, please don't quote lair as a must have, have you ever played rogue leader?

hmmmm, Lair, Heavenly Sword, isn't Ratchet and Clank comming out this year as well?
Navid. on 15 May '07
heard this games cost is right out of control...so,this aint gonna be good news...whether i have a ps3 by then i dunno, and the only other game i want for PS3 is FF13,and that will definetly be 2008

Look come on there is no denying MGS is one of the best games ever made. At it's time there wasn't a game that was remotely similar to it - in terms of the plot, characters, game mechanics and art direction. MGS2 was still a very good game as was MGS3.

it's 'latter' Wink
and the chances of a japanese company 'working' on the 360 as opposed to the PS3 version is quite frankly...ridiculous Laughing
