Killzone PS3 public beta on the way

"Of course there is going to be a public beta" Guerrilla Games confirms
It's not just 360 fans that are getting online FPS-beta-testing love this year. Oh no. It's been confirmed that PS3 owners have a public beta of the upcoming Killzone to look forward to.

Posting on the killzone.com forums, Seb Downie (under the alias 'motherH') revealed: "Of course there is going to be a public beta. I have always said that any game that has an online mode needs to go through a public beta to ensure it works as intended." We agree (give us more demos).

"More on a beta later this year," were his concluding words, leaving us to stew over when the beta may arrive and how you guys can ensure you get in on the action. More as it breaks.

Wow, what remarkable timing, on the same day the Halo 3 beta is released it is confirmed that Killzone will have a public beta too. What a coincidence, lol!

The Sony stable should really try to appear a little less needy.

Who cares? Killzone is rubbish. Do Sony really think this is going to whip up anywhere near the amount of excitement that the Halo 3 beta is generating? Fools.

Killzone? *yawns*

It was a post on a message board... hardly an earth-shattering major Sony announcement.

Personally I hope they take their time and make this one work. The original had a really nice feel and art style... it's a shame the actual game was a piece of s**t.
Though Liberation's not too bad.

Sounds great! Can't wait!

Some people should really stick to their own forums though....

....and the snippet of news didn't come from Sony. It came from th guy making the game.

Get jobs or something Twisted Evil
daijohn on 16 May '07
I wonder if you will have to buy another game just to access the beta.
creamerybutter on 16 May '07
I know it wasn't announced by Sony which is why i said "the Sony stable", refering to their onboard dev's, and why the hell does me posting a message mean i'm unemployed, you posted here too does that mean you are also, if you really must know its my day off.

Get off your high horse, all i did was point out the remarkable timing of Guerrilla Games announcing the Killzone beta, i.e. within 24 hours of the Halo 3 beta's launch.

...all i did was point out the remarkable timing of Guerrilla Games announcing the Killzone beta, i.e. within 24 hours of the Halo 3 beta's launch.

Actually I used to be part of the Killzone Liberation Infrastructure Beta and even at that time the person in question (Seb Downie) was saying this:

"Of course there is going to be a public beta. I have always said that any game that has an online mode needs to go through a public beta to ensure it works as intended."

So there really has never been any real doubt in my mind that a Killzone PS3 beta would be on the calendar.

I can understand being sceptical about the information, but it's not like they (the betas) are going to be at the same time... we dont even know when the Killzone PS3 Beta will be or how they will arrange it, all we know is that there will be one.

But to be honest, I would like to know, of the chance that this news was planned to be in line with the Halo 3 Beta, well what exactly do you belive would be achived by doing so???

Killzone? *yawns*

However these are the kind of posts we can do without... really. Rolling Eyes

Oh Noes!!1 Teh Halo killer has a beta too!
gazza_be on 16 May '07
I bet the developers of Killzone 2 took one look at the Halo 3 Beta and thought 'nothing to be worried about there'. So why not release it. The only people complaining are those without a PS3. Personally, rather than Halo 3, I would be more excited about 'Turnip Wars' - an 8 versus 8 player turnip slinging fest set in Shropshire.
Mark240473 on 16 May '07
Actually i have all 3 next gen systems, buying each on launch day, happy with each but could do with more games on the PS3 and Wii. I just think the timing is funny, personally i find it pretty exciting, but i would have been more excited about it if it had be announced last week or at a later date, why post confirmation within 24 hours of the Halo 3 beta release. Well i know why, but i think its a bit childish really, "don't worry loyal PS3 fans, you'll get your own beta to be excite about!!"
Alnilam81 on 16 May '07
"excited about" --doh!
Alnilam81 on 16 May '07
He was asked if there was going to be a beta, he said yes. What, should he have said 'nope, sorry, can't answer that for a few months cos the Halo beta is released in the next 24 hours and the retarded fanboys will start whining again'?
Chances are he was asked because the Halo beta is going live and it raised the question.
Why does anything slightly Sony related have to be part of some huge conspiricy?

Dickheads.

Urmmm, since when have dev's ever been open with people and given straight answers to their questions, i think the usual line is "we will not comment on rumours or speculation".

Geez, calm down, all i did is point out a remarkable coincidence and you go calling people "dickheads".

As it is Bungie seem to have made a complete hash of their beta release, 2 hours late now, hence i'm killing time posting here while i wait.
Alnilam81 on 16 May '07
As a rough comparison between the 2 franchises, check out http://www.thesimexchange.com/ Estimates put Killzone 2 global sales at 1.47 million, Halo 3 comes in at a whopping 11.14 million!

It seems to me that there are a lot of xboxers on this ps3 related thread. Like scared sheep looking over their shoulders. Oh, no! Competition for Halo 3. I honestly hope that Killzone 2 kicks Halo's over-hyped bottom. Probably won't, mind.
Have any of you xboxers seen the graphics of Ratchet & Clank for the PS3. Does it make you want to weep green tears?

Wasn't aimed directly at you, just get frustrated with the consistent Sony bashing (AND MS and Nintendo bashing, though it doesn't seem as 'cool' as Sony bashing at the minute) usually started by people who claim to not own, like or care about Sony products.
I don't like eggs but I don't use any excuse to bitch about chickens 1000 times a day.

Beta or vhs,i dont care. I just want a shot on its big juicy kipper lips. Shocked

excellent point, but you know someone will. to those who would quote sales figures (y'know 11 million v 2 million and all that) popularity does NOT equal quality,or fifa would be the worlds best football game. i agree that halo is better than killzone though.

I don't have a PS3 nor do I plan on getting one anytime soon, but I am quite excited about this news. For some reason I'm looking forward to seeing this game more than any others that are comming out...

maybe it's because, like me,you're waiting to see how it compares to the old e3 trailer in terms of graphic quality.
ste hicky on 16 May '07
bloody hell...i thought killzone was pretty bloody good for a PS2 game Rolling Eyes
and it rocked online (for free) Wink
from early reports halo3 isnt the graphical marvel it should be...but then again it is only a beta isnt it Cool
seedaripper on 16 May '07
From what many are saying already Halo 3 looks nothing more than a slightly updated version of Halo 2 - which itself wasn't that good of a game anyways. From seeing the new clips of it in action, I can definately agree, even if its still a beta.

Hopefully Killzone2 won't look as bad as Halo 3. If they do as well as they did with Motorstorm (visually), then this game is gonna be hot.

Ratchet and Clank??

(Silence)

Pffft! Green tears? Not quite!
MrPirtniw on 17 May '07
Look you piglet bodied swines, Halo 3 is over-hyped. It's interesting to see now Bungie facing off against proper PC FPS developers such as Epic. There's no place to hide now what with the new consoles being very similar to the PC. I bet my pancreas that Halo 3 ain't as good as Gears of War. They are going to be exposed with a girls thong wedged between their cracks. Unreal Tournement 3 is a proper next gen multiplayer FPS children.

Now don't effing question or quote me I am not too happy you know what i'm saying ShockedShocked
warpedAi on 17 May '07
Halo 3 is being overhyped as are the majority major sequels released. Some people’s expectations are going to be so high that they can only end up disappointed, while others will just look for the negatives and focus on them as they want to slate the game regardless of its quality. Similar to those who focus purely on the negatives of the PS3 and seem to want nothing more than watch it fail. Must be Something in human nature.

The original Killzone was extremely overhyped, it was lined up as a Halo:CE beater and it was only average...It was the expectation on this game that really made it seem worse. I think as long as people can keep their expectations in check and stop slating games unjustly, they will find a lot more to enjoy in games across the board.

I have a PS3 and a 360, I am looking forward to Halo 3, I hope it will build on the previous games, have a more solid Single Player than Halo 2 and overall be a the definitive Halo title. Not a revolution but a perfection of the formula.

As for Killzone 2, a public Beta makes sense just as it does for Halo 3...for testing and marketing. I think Killzone 2 is on a more level field with Halo 3 this time around as the formats are more closely matched than the original Xbox and PS2 were. The only thing I think it has going against it is the PS3 controller, I never likes FPS on the Playstaion pads...that is just me though.
