A rumour has arisen in the US Official Xbox Magazine suggesting that the third title in BioWare's awesome KOTOR series could be with us as soon as Christmas or at least in 2008.
Towards the end of April we reported that BioWare had formed a new internal studio to create a Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic massively multiplayer online game. No further details were reported and BioWare still remain tight-lipped on anything to do with any possible new KOTOR games and what platforms they might appear on, though you've got to think that Xbox 360 is a safe bet.
Still, that hasn't stopped the US press reporting fresh rumours regarding the third title in the RPG series. From what was said in our comments section about the MMO, it seemed as though most of you were holding out for KOTOR 3 rather than a massively multiplayer online game.
Is your wish about to come true? Should we expect to hear something KOTOR-related at Microsoft's conference at E3 next month? Should we just stop talking about it until BioWare coughs up the goods? Probably.
If the are making this game a MMO then please for god sake don't ask for a monthly membership fee. I would to love to play this but if they want a monthly fee then forget it!
So long as Bioware make it and not Obsidian, the game should be great. In my opinion that company has ruined every game of Biowares that they have touched.
Hopefully it will be a single player game. That would finish the series off nicely as a trilogy THEN if they want to make a MMO out of it then go ahead.
Get a new KOTOR game, the first two were awesome - two of the best rpgs I've ever played. hopefully it will be on the 360 and not a MMO...
they're the only two rpg's i've played through to the end without getting p**sed off and trading (final fantasy anyone?). Dark side and light. Don't bother with the mmo just now. Get the KOTOR story finished first. And Richyrich if ure reading, look no caps lock!
I have no interest in an MMO but I do want KOTOR 3. Bioware are awesome but i'd rather it retained the same battle system rather than the mutton mashy Jade Empire and genericy-shooter-type Mass effect.
the first 'knights' was a breath of fresh air and is one of the best (if not THE best) games on the xbox, then bioware buggered off and handed development of kotor2 to obsidian who, frankly, just weren't up to the standard set in the first one.hopefully 3 will be a return to form after 2's p**spoor story/level design(c'mon count how many loading screens you sit through in the first hour and a half),but given biowares focus on mass effect i'll wait and see.
Never blame Obsidian for KotOR 2; it was forced out of the door too quickly, and there were quests, multiple endings and an entire planet culled, but as any fan should know, the Sith Lords Restoration project should put it right. Blame Lucasarts, Obsidian needed more time. I loved KotOR 2, the story was great, and there were improvements to the game mechanic despite the bugs.
Yeah im sold on three conditions .Firstly lets not make it the last 2. Make sure its done properly! 3. I guess to get the second condition get Bioware to do it!
Now for ideas to add co-op to the mix at someone has already said but then would it be possible but maybe Bioware could pull it off . But then i would be happy enough with a good single player version
i dont think Bioware are gonna have anything to do with it,and if this does come out at christmas...which would be great, but i cant see it.....i just hope its better than the second one,and has a complete ending this time, seen as though the ending on the second one was cut to sh*t
i HOPE that this is real and i HOPE that it's in the form of kotor 3 not an mmo. this coul also explain why the release date of mass effect is being kept so mum. but bioware did say that mass effect is the 'spiritual successor' to kotor so i don't have my hopes up.
also, obsidian still made a great game in kotor2. it's faults of bugs, choppy story and abrupt ending were due to time constraints and a forced release. but i still loved the game.
I know someone who works at Bioware with his brother. He says that there has been no mention of KOTOR 3 plans. So I wouldn't bet on anything coming from Biwoare. From what i heard from them, the whole group really didn't like doing KOTOR 1 because Lucasarts was really pushy with plot control.
I was never a huge star wars fan, although I luke episodes 5 and 3 I think they are the best of the 6. I played the first Kotor thinking it would probibly suck cuz lets face it, lucasarts has made some very dumb games in the past. but thinkfully I was terribly wrong about Kotor I even played it 23 times I played the 2nd one 37 times mainly because I like its gameplay and how its graphics was were better, even though the last 30 minutes is the most dreaded part of the game. But anywho Kotor 3 should have the giant planet system like in the new game that is comeing out from bioware, you should have at least 30 planets even though the main story mission planets should only be 11 or 12 planets. It should be jam packed with backstories and little missions that allow you to become a very very dangerous jedi, and to keep the challenge your enimies should allways match your stats or at least not that far below it. there should be 15 lil missions on every planet. It should be so big you should say to hell with the MMO. Then when you are done with all the planets then you should start a new game. If its going to be the last it should be the biggest, the funnest, and the greatest.

Kotor is amazinggg i grew up playing it and i couldnt wait till the third game came out after i beat the second. i personally think that it would be crazy sweet if they had an online multiplayer or at least co-op that was the same story line as single player. bioware is tons better too i loved the first game. hope the game comes out soon.
Provided it's not half-finished like the second I look forward to it like mad. And provided it's available on PC and not an XBOX only buy out by microsoft so I can actually play the thing.
CVG i think you should go with the option of not talking about it until something is confirmed, it's too hard otherwise!!!
As much as i'm loving mass effect I thought about KOTOR alot playing it and a little part of me wished that it was a lightsaber in my hand instead of my gun.
Before i played KOTOR I thought starwars was for loosers and 30 year old vergins but now i cant get enough of starwars and my favorite games of all time are starwars games. I've been on countless chatrooms and countless gamers sites for a little over a year tring to find out whats the deal with the creation of kotor3. at this point I dont care who makes it (thow i would prefer bioware)
they didn't say it would be christmas. They said it be the closest time. Their is still have 345 (346 if leap year)days left. the announcment will probably be E3 this spring. Until then, it is best to assume Mass Effect was a trial run for kotor 3 and that is how it is.
I think obsidian actually did a pretty good job on the second because both games served a purpose. kotor 1 was like the action packed revealing heart pounding game. yet it left us with little knowing about who revan actually was. then kotor 2 tought us about the force, who revan was and all the little things like atton and hk-47 told us. i jsut have no clue when and what kotor 3 will be out and what about
