Blacksite is a first-person shooter. It's out in September. Most people would say it's been sent to die against Bungie's mighty Halo three-quel, but according to lead campaign designer Ricardo Bare, Halo 3 will actually help sales of Midway's shooter.
"We've talked about this a lot and there's a couple of different schools of thought," he told CVG. "Whenever you go and see a really bad ass action movie like X-Men, it just makes you want to go and see Spider-Man 3, right? You usually want more of the same."
He continues: "Some people subscribe to the fact that when something really huge comes out, it helps the other two or three really good games that also come out, because you want more FPS action.
"At the same time, I think our game is different from Halo, so it's not like we're offering the same thing, we're offering a really cool, gritty atmosphere and the squad - Halo 3 doesn't have a squad." Unless Bungie's keeping that under wrpas...
Interesting theory. Midway also confirmed to us this afternoon that a new PS3 and Xbox 360 demo will be arriving ahead of release, including a new campaign level and online multiplayer.
"All we intended to do [with the first demo] is show a teaser, but the next release we have will be a full blown demo with multiplayer and everything. It'll be on 360 and PS3."
Look for the full interview and updated impressions as soon as we get our fingers moving.
I'm looking forward to it. I can't stand FPS's and action games normally, but I rather enjoyed the demo. It succeeded where so many other games fail in trying to be cinematic.
I thought the demo was rubbish. A poor attempt at a version of Resistance:FOM.
Really? Were you playing the same demo? I didn't notice a church or other religious landmark in there.
It really has to be seen on a HDTV I'd say. The rain and the textures were quite impressive. For being a teaser demo, I thought it provided enough to peak my interest. The co-op mode would be of great interest to me as well.
The only thing I will say about the demo is the main assault rifle didn't feel punchy enough. With FPS's you really should feel like your dealing out some damage.
Not a rip off of Resistance because AREA 51 (The original game) came out way before Resistance and I agree if the frame rate improves this game could be amazing!
More FPS action, you must be kidding i am sick of them once you play one you have played them all weather they are rubbish or not and the fact that there is one released nearly every week reminds me of when Super Mario 64 came out and all the crap platform games that followed! as with FPS I only buy one when its really really good and the only two I am buying this year are Halo 3 and Metroid Prime Corruption!
I think that it will do well on the PS3 for sure and probably not so bad on the 360, but it would have been best to put it out a week or two after the Halo 3 launch.
