Irrational Games has reaffirmed the console exclusivity of its moody Xbox 360 shooter Bioshock.
"Obviously we need to give as many people as possible access to our game. However, this is an Xbox 360 exclusive and it's coming out on PC. That's the way it is on Bioshock" senior designer Joe McDonagh told CVG.
Rumours have been rampant that the System Shock spiritual sequel will also be coming to PS3, but so far Take Two and Irrational have kept quiet.
McDonagh, howver did off some hints:
"Games cost a lot of money to make and our priority is to sell as many copies as possible. The more copies our game sells, the more confidence our publisher has in us and the more interesting and risky games we can make in the future."
If it's coming out on the PC, it's not 360 exclusive now is it? Pedantic, but still...
They are talking about the only console to have it is the Xbox 360.
still not an exclusive. thats why i didnt buy a 360, if i want a 360 game i get it on PC, there are only timed exclusives for 360s (like Gow GS rumored that it will come on PC)
That's a scandalous rumour based on nothing more than Epic saying that it would happen.
Having said that, it seems crazy to rely on PCs for gaming. That's a depressingly dry format. If you are willing to pile money into gaming as a hobby you should defo get at leat 1 console.
all i can say is that i own a ps3 and not a 360 so if this does stay exclusive then i wont buy it , even though it looks like possibly the best game of the year(out of any console or pc game!), the graphics are amazing and the gameplay looks like it introduces some very interesting techniques for bringing down enemys.
if eni1 wants this 2 stay exclusive then thats just fanboyism!!(if dats even a word!)
eniway, the game looks amazing, if u own a 360 GET IT! or else i will beat u up, realy badly!
b4 anyone says enithing, my spelling IS sh*#e n i no, so no people telling me how to speak (or rather write) properly!
With all of the talk about if they sell more games then they will have more freedom, I wouldnt be suprised if it came out on the PS3, It will probably come out later once most people have already got it and played it, and more than likley it will have some additional content or movies or something in it, as is usually the case to try to sell an older game that has just been released on a different platform (eg. pc 360 ps3) As for the pc and 360, I only have a 360 at the moment but Im really into my PC gaming. Im just waiting for Crysis to see how the new DirectX10 cards actually handle games. If I had a choice, I would play it on my PC, mainly for mouse and keyboard, but if an exclusive came out for the 360, I wouldnt complain either. I would just be happy that I could play the game
Let's clear this up... If a game is only out on ONE console then it's an exclusive. PC is not a stand-alone gaming system hence why no one takes it into account when taking about exclusives. As for Bioshock, I think it looks really cool but with Halo 3 around the corner, it may not perform amazingly well, which is why I think it will eventually come out on PS3 sometime next year, as that console really lacks a decent FPS game.
As a PC gamer the topic of the article got me worried, I don't understand calling a title exclusive if it's out on more than one platform. If the article read "bioshock PC exclusive" then xb360 owners would get a shock too.

PC = Microsoft
Xbox 360 = Microsoft.
Its still a Microsoft Exclusive.
And unless like me you have a very expensive computer to run it, your best option (and for like most people) would be the Xbox 360 version.

This is by far the most retarded statement any idiot console fan has ever made, that I have seen. I know there's a bottomless vat of such stupidity abound.
PCs are the best platform for gaming. Our games are better designed, better graphics, better game play and far more longevity than any console game regardless of platform could hope to match. Don't think that the piddly little mods that are being developed for console games adds much, you can't really get total conversions like we do or the huge scope of them we can. And for free to boot.
Oh yeah, skill. Go get a PC and learn some. Or stay with your console games and rediculously high hit point-ed characters and your spam fire weapons.
And according tot he developers of Crysis, it will be a PC exclusive as consoles simply don't have the muscle to run it.

Consoles are never the best option for playing FPS. PC is king in that regard.
And no, it's NOT a 360 exclusive. Just because the PC doesn't have a catchy brand name and a standardised pretty box, it's still a gaming platform.
Any way theres to many multi format games about, each console needs exclusives, time Sony got some cash out and started spreading it about a bit.
.....//tumbleweed//...
I really fail to see the logic here. As gamers, surely having as many games as possible on your chosen platform is the way forward, rather than being forced to buy different platforms if you want to play certain games?

I think the majority of people will agree that PC games do have better graphics, more longevity and free online play without lag most of the time. There's no questioning that... The real niggle is that not everyone has Ł3000 to spend every 2 years to make sure they have a computer powerful enough to experience the latest PC game as the developers intended. This is where console rule supreme. You just need to buy the console and thats that. Put the game in and everyone gets the same game experience. Also, consoles always have loads of great games a year, which means lesser games may have a short life span as everyone's always moving onto the next greatest game whereas with PC, you will get 2-3 AAA games a year meaning people stick to one or two games and hone their skills on them...
Also, as for exclusives, if there's no money involved in aqquiring an exclusive then developers will opt to go multi-format as it won't be profitable this gen. MS know this and know software sells console so they have splashed the cash to get decent exclusives whereas the only new you hear about Sony is them loosing yet another exclusive...

One of the stupidest comments i've seen tbh. The PC is a great format. Dry? Not at all! The PC has some of the most imaginitive and crazy games there is! Psychonauts? Stalker? Def Con? Darwinia? Not to mention the fact that pretty much any FPS is superior on PC. And all the MMO's.
In many respects, the PC is the ultimate gaming platform

yh i do like FPS better on PC as graphics are better (i love graphics). Plus the accuracy of a mouse is superior than a pad.
Oh for goodness sakes, read what the man is actually saying. This is a news post addressing the rumour of a PS3 version of the game. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the PC release being canned/delayed/whatever.
Gutted. Was hoping it would come out for Ps3 - it's the only 360 game that I would really love to play this xmas - not Halo3. I'll hold out for a possible Ps3 release sometime next year - can't buy a 360 just for Bioshock. And before a fanboy slags me off - no, I am not a Halo fan, or a fan of any other games that are out, or coming out for 360. Well, except for assassins creed, but thats on Ps3 anyway.
By November/September me and my wallet are gonna be deaded. No idea where i'm gonna get the money for all these games- or the time to play them... sigh.
And now i need to go buy FlatOut! Those selfish developers- I'M ONLY ONE MAN!

He never said he only uses PCs for gaming, he said that if a game is available on PC as well as console(s), he'll go with the PC version. There are of course a large number of games that aren't available on the PC, it's just that the XBox 360 doesn't have very many of them.
I follow the same line of philosophy myself. The PC versions of multi platform games typically offers a number of advantages over consoles:
1) The PC version is typically at least Ł10 cheaper than the console versions.
2) The PC offers more suitable controls for certain genres. While gamepads are more suitable for things like platform games, keyboard + mouse utterly pwn them for FPS' and strategy games. You can also use a gamepad with almost any commercial PC game made within the last five years, whereas large numbers of console games don't support keyboard + mouse even if they're available for that console.
3) PC games typically feature scalable graphical options. This means that if your current PC isn't powerful enough to render the game as impressively as the 360 and/or PS3 manage, a couple of years down the line you'll be able to bump the settings and resolution up, potentially making the console versions look like Quake 1 in comparison. (As an example, PC Oblivion with all the settings on full simply blows 360 Oblivion out of the water.)
4) PC games frequently allow the use of 3rd party mods. I've lost count of the number of owners of the 360 versions of games like Doom 3, Quake IV, and Oblivion who've asked how to play fan-made mods on the console; the answer is simple: "you can't!" (Continuing with the Oblivion example, there are all sorts of graphical tweaks, high resolution texture packs, improved lighting systems, etc that are only available on the PC which make the game look even better, and then there are countless gameplay revamps and overhauls, fan made quests, etc, etc.)
Of course, there's old "but you can't hook a PC up to your TV and lounge around on the sofa playing games with your mates in the same room" argument, but I'm afraid that's been invalid for years now.
The fact is, you *can* hook a PC up to your TV. Component, DVI and HDMI are the obvious answers for high def TVs, but s-video and VGA converters are also available for those stuck with standard def TVs (though the picture certainly won't look as good as it does on a monitor.)
Also, it's becoming increasingly difficult to lounge around playing console games with your mates in the same room, since there's an ever increasing focus on 'net play, making splitscreen a dying (or, at least, critically ill) trend.
Yes - the PC may be the better platform - providing you've got the time and money to invest in keeping it cutting edge. If you haven't; then you can forget about the latest games.
One of the main plus points of the 360 (or any console for that matter) is that it gives players - and developers - a standardised platform to work from. Everybody has the same kind of machine; and the game will run and look the same for all players (if you discount the dreaded ping that is... )
Something which can't be said for the PC crowd. Where a top spec machine can cost several grand one year and then struggle to play anything 18 months later and perform as if it came free with a packet of Rice Krispies.
But all this is "rollocks" anyway. This was meant to be a thread regarding Bioshock's alleged exclusivity, not some fanboy baiting PC vs Consoles nonsense.
This is by far the most retarded statement any idiot console fan has ever made, that I have seen. I know there's a bottomless vat of such stupidity abound.

3,000€? Where did you get a number like that from? I'll be upgrading my current computer to a Quad Core computer, new case, ram and motherboard which will cost me about 1,700/1,800€ at the most, including a new cooler and a 750 watt UPS. I'm only waiting till July when the price of the quad core will drop in half taking about four hundred euro off the price I'll be paying. I've had this computer for about three years. Saving 1,500 is not all that hard, specifically since I've now saved about 3,500€ while on minimum wage over the last seven months. And that includes paying some loans and debts back to family who loaned me some funds when I was in college.
the only 2 games i play on PC are STALKER and Rainbow6, i prefer console since i pass 50% of my time at work and at college on PCs. sooo i prefer console, i just get relaxed more, however PCs are always the best (and more expensive - i usually wait for PC gaming and buy the best hardware at the moment, im soon upgrading a double 8800GTX and adding up 2Gb of RAM to my previous 2)
