Runescape developer Jagex has revealed a console version of its browser-based fantasy MMO is something it keeps considering, the arrival of Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 making such more tempting than ever before.
"It's certainly more interesting with the current generation of consoles of course because they're far more internet-connected than the previous generation and it just wasn't worth looking at", the game's creator Andrew Gower told CVG recently.
"But with the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the Wii, it's much more tempting, I have to say".
Talking about PS3 specifically, Gower said that Jagex could probably get Runescape running on the machine right now, adding overall that "Technically porting the game to different platforms isn't a huge amount of work."
However, he explained the reason the developer's "slightly reluctant" to bring the MMO to too many different platforms "is because the more platforms that we're on, the more we have to update in parallel and that would slow us down."
"We've always tried to be a very agile company whereby if the players say they want something, or there's something not quite right, we'll fix it there and then", Gower said.
"We're loath to lose the rapid response... that we've got at the moment, and the more platforms we go to the more than happens, so it's a bit of a trade off."
Gower said there was nothing he could talk about at the moment regarding actual plans to bring Runescape to console. The game, which consists of both free and subscription versions, recently hit one million subscribers and boasts over 5 million active players.

that is true, but in many ways i believe that runescape actually offers more to do than some other MMO's for instance guild wars all you can do is fight things (which gets boring after a while)but runescape the fighting can be as big or as small a part as you want it to be as there are so many other things to work on.
anyway i dont think this would be very sucessful on consols as the majority of people use a computer to access the internet for their consols... and those intrested in playing runescape would just use their computers to play it.

I think runescape should hit a handheld, with the loew technical demands and 'on the go' gaming.
I'd love to see the day when you can play the same MMO on handeld and PC/console. I have these thoughts during the dull commute into and out of work - how I could be playing on a handheld and then pick up where I left off on PC/console when I got home. Hell, it may even happen before I hit 80.
It'll need a HUGE graphical overhaul IMO as all my 360 and PS3 owning friends are pure graphics tarts, and they'll just laugh and go play the latest 'Uber GFX: Shallow Game 3' or something.
Runescape would be great for something like LIVE ARCADE. It's basically what all, if not most MMO players start off on before moving onto the likes of WOW, LOTRO etc...
I'm typing this because I am a Runescape player and my account has somehow been hacked and I cannot get on it any longer. My Runescape name is Joeynut4, I had Rune full helmet, Rune Chainbody, Rune platelegs, Rune Scimitar, Adamant Kiteshield, Amulet of power, Leather Boots and Leather Vambraces on. I went to my friend’s party and I signed on my name and it was fine. But when I got home, I tried to go on and it said that I had an invalid password. The next day (July 5th, 2007), me and my friend were figuring out who took my account and we didn't. Later it said that my account Joeynut4 has signed on. I was on one of my other accounts. I sent a message saying for that person to get off my account and all he said was @$$ and signed off. Me and that same friend were still trying to find out who hacked me. My friend signed on his username and also found him. He was walking OUT of the bank. Luckily I set a Bank pin. But this confuses me, I also set Recovery Questions and I don’t know how he figured them out. But another way to make u sure this is my account, I remember some of the things in my Bank Account, I had 2 Rune Pickaxes, about 35-$43k, an air staff, runes (fire body mind nature etc. No airs), a Zombie mask and (laughing) 4 horse toys, I had all the colors and 2 of one of them. I cannot remember all the things at this time but I beg for you to help me get my account back. I also remember my stats. I was level 63, I had 50 HP, 32 almost 33 Magic, 53 Mining, 40 Smithing, 55 Attack, I believe 31 prayer, Strength and Defense both 48 and Some of the people on the friends list were: Soul Ownage1 (my friend that helped me), Ledgendmaker, 2linksoftime, Archer K O, The5link, Coach Bryan, and Alt424. Again, I beg of you to help me recover my name back.

I wouldn't disencourage the idea of RuneScape on the seventh-generation platforms. However, it seems that the PS3 is getting a lot of roleplaying games at the moment, with more to come. I've already got Oblivion and am planning on getting Folklore and Heavenly Sword if they're any good. Still, RuneScape might not be a bad idea, just hope it works for them.

Ok dude.. First of all, your account is garbage and you should just start a new one. If you are that upset about loosing a character in a game, especially one that is not even that good, you should not be playing games.
To comment on the interview with Gower, I think that he has enough to deal with when it comes to just the PC version. Though there are usually at least bi-weekly updates, it would be more prevalent to upgrade any graphic schemes or technical issues instead of needing to worry about two versions. Agreeing with a fellow poster, it would be a fruitless venture in the first place because the people that play the 7th gen systems are the ones that have a problem with the way Runescape looks graphically. Unless Runescape had an extreme overhaul, it should stay off the consoles for now.
Jagex has 300+ employees, the should split off a task force console dev team to Uberify the graphics up and add all the major updates into the game (ie. Minigames, Skills, Quests, Areas) and not the irrelevant ones (ie. graphics updates and small PC only bugs n' such)

I personally wouldn't mind if this slowed their fast response a little tiny bit, as a relatively experienced MMOer I'm used to it. i think rs to be on the ps3, xbox etc. would be great. But its getting thousends to millions of people on one platform would be hard, to stop the lagg and internet loss in the gameplay. I myself now and then go on rs but it can get a bit boring after a while from the same things to do all the time.
