PreviousE3: Slimline PSP coming to UK in September New Medal of Honor revealed for Wii  Next

PSP slim dated and priced in Japan

Sony Japan to begin its DS assault on Sept. 20 - UK date still 'September'
The new slimline PSP will hit Japanese stores on September 20 for 19,800 Yen (£79), Reuters reports.

Revealed at Sony's E3 press conference last week, the new-shape PSP is lighter, slimmer, features improved battery life, faster loading times and can be plugged into a TV for big-screen play.

Sony has confirmed that the new console will launch in two colours; black and silver, and is expected to help the PSP pull back lost ground on DS, which has sold phenomenally well since its 2004 launch.

The US and UK release dates are also set at September. Sony says it'll be making an announcement "in due course".

The remodelled handheld looks sweet though. Can we have some "test" units please, Sony?

theres no chance in hell that the psp will catch up with the ds, theres just no original games for the psp, slimline psp is such a waste of time.
psp could have done so many great things but sony seem more interested in trying to update every psp so that you cant play homebrew, when in actual fact if there were decent games for the thing we wouldnt want to play nes\snes games on it.
But anyway psp cant compete with ds and its gonna take a lot more than a slimline version to do that.

Couldn't agree more.

Lower power use + smaller battery = the same playing time as the original.

I don't know if anyone will be ugrading to this from the original PSP, it looks identical just a bit smaller. When the DS lite launched it was a HUGE improvment on the original, this isn't.

£79 plus the majic double money tax the japs issue on europe plus VAT and hey presto were paying £200 for it.

Are you surprised? since when have we have payed anything roughly the same as the rest of the world for hardware, games and well pretty much anything else?

It also has longer battery life and you can hook it up to your T.V and play PSP games on your T.V (If you really want to)

ds just looked crap hence the re-design look in ds lite,
psp already looked good ,but needed better battery and less weight

as far as im concerned the very few minor changes dont warrant the 'redesigned' tag this console has, underneath its still the bare bonebags of crap it was from the start and certainly doesn't deserve the £200+ pricetag it will no doubt get.

That's exactly what I was thinking too.

Ah, Lik-Sang, how I miss thee.

The PSP only needs:

-A screen that we could play with in sunlight
-DVD playing capabilities
-PS2 games playing capabilities

I would buy 3 PSPs on the spot if they released a PSP with these things.

Ummmm mate if you want that buy a ps2

The psp lite is a psp but smaller -- we have to wait till the psp 2 2 analogue and better graphics and storage media --i think the future will be sd cards or similar

hey,i have had my PSP for about a year now and i have played many DS' but i have to say in my opinion the PSP is much better, i mean you can play games as with the DS of course, but with a decent MS which aren't expensive you can hold a load of music and a decent amount of films. the screen is much bigger and the graphics are better. for me the DS just doesn't compare to the PSP. from the games i have played, FF, tony hawk, mario karting, they all seem to have taken a step backwards in the graphics, and decided not to improve the quality of the games like every other gaming device.

although i do agree with what LeonKILLER7 said about all the homebrew protection stuff. and the PSP slim is a waste of time and money just for what darren_mccoy said; Lower power use + smaller battery
