As MGS creator Hideo Kojima promised at E3, the first ever in-game demonstration of Metal Gear Solid 4 was given at a Sony event in Tokyo, giving away tons of new info.
Snake has loads of new tricks up his sleeve. When confronting enemies, he now has the ability to take away their weapons during hold-ups, which are more convincing than before. He pats them down to check for items and take their gun before knocking them out.
As you saw in the trailer, Snakes Octo-cam technology in his suit allows him to blend in with background scenery, seamlessly changing colour as he presses against surfaces. He now also has a new electrical knife to stun enemies.
Sense of smell also comes into play - if Snake hides in a bin he starts to smell, which guards can detect.
It was also revealed that, as well as there being a first-person view mode, the game will also allow you to view the action from an over-the-shoulder camera, according to Japanese site, Famitsu.
UPDATE: Kojima has just demonstrated the same Famitsu sequence at the MGS Anniversary party in Japan.
Shown off in the demonstration was Snake's new barrel-rolling antics, which if abused can make him be sick all over the place. A quick browse through a bikini mag perks the old man up a bit - and you can even turn the pages. Nice.
MG Mk. II, the little robot from the first trailer, is controlled via SixAxis tilt controls.
We'll let you know more details as soon as we get them.
The fact that enemies are to have a sense of smell in MGS4 is very cool. It is the little touches like this that make the series some of the best games of their time.
Sounds sweet. Not really that convinced over the sense of smell thing, it's no biggie, it's like they put the ability to track wet footprints on in MGS2 (sadly, I didn't own 3, but played it) but then again I only actually saw that once, when playing as snake in the beginning in the rain.
