HMV, Play.com and GAME have published a price point for the new black Xbox 360 Elite, although Microsoft is yet to confirm how legit it is.
According to all three retailers the upgraded console will come in at £329.99 when it arrives in the UK on August 24, 50 quid more than the £279.99 premium pack.
Microsoft expectedly had "nothing to announce" when contacted this morning, but the price point seems in line with the US ratio, where punters can pick up a Premium pack for $399 USD (£194 GBP) and an Elite for $80 more at $479 USD (£233 GBP).
Apart from being all sexy and black, the Elite comes with a HDMI port slapped on the back, boosted 120GB HDD and unique black peripherals to make you feel more, ahem 'elite' than those standard white controller-using 360 owners.
Basically it's right up your alley if you're looking forward to the arrival of Video Marketplace later this year. Look for our verdict in the weeks running up to release.
It's a bit of a rip off if you ask me, I was expecting the premium to go down in price, and the Elite to be under £300, M$ are just making it harder for themselves to compete with the PS3 with it's new package.
£330 is roughly €490. If they think I'm paying an extra €90 over what a Premium system costs now, then they.. they uh... can stop thinking that! Yeah! Waiting a while anyway until Falcon chippage is in full circulation, and hopefully by that point if my current 360 is still alive I can get a good deal on a trade in.
I'm the same, although I'm in the process of trying to get a free Elite with one of those online referral schemes and I'm well on my way at the moment!

Ha, i tried that with a laptop years ago, one of those pyramid things where 100 people pay £10 then the 1st gets a free items, 100 more pay number 2 gets 1 free and so on..
Right that's it, i'm off to America. Yeah i'll have to put up with the yanks but at least i can buy an Elite for £100 less than over here. Plus it looks way better than the green Halo 360. Sorry but just don't like green.
The Xbox360 is almost 2 years old, and still the same price as it was when it launched, the PS3 is merely months old, and they have already revised their pricing.
The Elite should replace the Premium pack and sell for £280, and the current premium should replace the Core and sell for £200 - it was a stupid idea in the first place to release a hard-drive-less version

To be fair, if Microsoft were going to do that then they wouldn't announce it now would they! Good way to stop sales for a month as people wait for the price-drop!
Why has barely anyone pointed out the Elite costs 100 pounds less in America than it will over here?!
What the f**k is up with that exchange rate!?
We need to start a petition people, I can't believe that's legal trading, how can you give a product a $200 markup to sell it in Europe? Madness.
Remember that the American price is probably with out tax – the tax gets added on at the till more often than note. So the prices might not be as far apart as they look – but no doubt we are paying more.
Lets get this clear people - the elite does not have any redesign at all in terms of chipset and board layout. I'm afraid that does mean its as likely to fail as the other skews. The falcon chipset will be out before the end of the year and that's when a price drop will occur, as it should be cheaper to produce - and we all hope it will be more reliable to.
As for the pricing, its pretty much what we all expected. I guess it was a necessary update to encompass the TV on demand and film download ambitions of the 'live' network, I can't help but feel they've shot themslves in the foot with this one now - particualarly in the light of the PS3's newly announced bundle. Lets face it with a couple of games, this now costs as much as a PS3, yet still doesn't have Hi def movie support or wireless access. Price was a major differentiator between the two systems, but that is simply not the case any more. I'm sure many people will still buy this though, as it is cooler looking in black and 360 has a strong line up for the rest of the year. But I think its unlikley to stop the rise in marketability of its competitor, which is seeing a pick up in interest following a strong E3 and the start of some good software. Interesting times for us impartial observers with all the machines!
I think the bigger hard drive is a good idea, the demos are a gig each usually and i have a fair few, plus ive ripped a few cd's i like to listen on there too. I'm pretty much down to 5GB. The cost puts me off buying the elite, if it doesn't have the falcon chipset then Microsoft are laughing all the way to the bank,

no, if it did have the falcon shipset then they will be laughing louder to the bank as its cheaper to produce...
Why do you "need" more than 20GB? I don't think anyone needs more than 20GB. People would like more space but as a console 20GB is loads of room.
the hard drive isn't 20gb. it really makes me mad that they con people into thinking it is. it is partitioned so you only get 13gb and 7gb is reserved for updates. 13gb is easily filled with 10 of the biggger demo's. i'm always deleting old demo's for new ones. and when the tv service kicks off we'll need a biggger HDD. its just going to be a massive rip off

well let me explain
when you have a 20gig hard drive, thats really 13 gig...and then you have final fantasy 11 installed on there thats 7 gig which leaves roughly 6gig
and then.....*deep breath*

okay, granted there is a lot of KB there, that amount for nothing, but there is also a lot of MB,especially the arcade games, and they all add up..and as you can see,a few game packs that i WANT to download, but know i have to use the room to my advantage that more or less leaves me with 500mb
now, with the COD4 beta coming soon, and the tomb raider anniversary downloads also coming, not to mention any demos i might wanna try....AND of course the video marketplace, one could say that i am buggered...so yes,to make my point,i NEED the 120 gig hard drive
the hard drive, whether you got one or not i feel is the only thing that was wrong with the 360,the '20' gig was too small for the serious game, and yet not having a hard drive for the non-serious gamer(just having memory card 64mb)was way too small
look at some of my game saves up above...some have downloads included yes,but still,if you just had the memory card, you really couldnt hold that many games
the core packages should of had the 20gig,while the premium should of been like the elite from the start

You loser. I couldn't even be bothered to read all that. How'd you bother type it? Go play a game or something!
is this machine wireless? or do you have to buy the network adapter again? cos ive got the a 360 online is brilliant, but its a wired connection and hugely inconvienient, i cant justify payin £50 for the wireless adapter but if the elite is wirless ill get one and give my 360 premium to my bro. anyways anyone know if its wireless
I always have about 7 gigs free on my hd, i just delete stuff i no longer watch or play. Dont forget you can delete arcade games and then re-download them again later at no extra cost. Also the hd movies are only rentals so its not like they remain on your hd forever. On the elite, i think considering the price point for the normal (20gig) 360 its pretty good, extra 100gigs and hdmi for 50 quid. Lastly there bound to be a price cut before xmas, so you could hold off till then.

No its not wireless.
I bang on abot these in other threads, but get a homeplug kit, they are great value and are much more reliable for gaming than wireless...
yeah i had a homeplug kit for my xbox 1,you just plug it into the wall and connect it to your xbox and then do the same downstairs and plug it into your modem, the copper wiring in your building acts as the transmitter
