I think we're all in agreement when it comes to picking the new trailer of Resident Evil 5 as one of our E3 highs, especially as we weren't expecting to see anything of it for a while.
Producer Jun Takeuchi has revealed that protagonist Chris is a member of the 'BSAA' (you could see the letters on his patch in the trailer). Obviously the game takes place in and around a desert but initial events appear to happen in the village seen in the trailer.
Chris is sent in to check it out and that's when things get a bit mental. Once there he comes across a new form of enemy, which Takeuchi says are of human form with intelligence. They're not just zombies anymore...
There'll also be a female character, which fans of the series will recognise apparently. We can expect her to make a brief appearance in the extended trailer due out later this month - which we're told is far better than the E3 one.
Takeuchi also said that the most challenging aspect of development on Resi 5 is bringing in new ideas that work with the Resi 4 gameplay system.
It sounds like the majority of 5 will be played from the same third-person, over the shoulder, as 4. Takeuchi also promises a surprise, whcih he feels is an obvious evolution for gameplay.
Finally the Japanese producer touched upon how important light is and there'll be plenty of what sounds like High Dynamic Range Lightening in the game to us.
He gave the example of Chris walking into a building that has a pitch black interior and having to wait a second for his eyes adjust. the same will go for when you run outside. Cue shit-scary zombie-ghoul surprise moments when the screen's in full glare then.
We can't wait. But it doesn't look like we'll be getting our hands on it anytime soon and it's not been announced when in 2008 the game will appear. We don't even know if it will be 2008, but that doesn't bare thinking about. Thanks to Famitsu for a sprinkling of new details then (via IGN).
Hopefully the controls schemes and inventory handling will work out a lot better. I didn't really mind it too much in RE4, but I thought it could use some work. I recall they mention something about your mental health playing a major role in the game. Kinda reminds me of the "Sanity Meter" feature of Eternal Darkness, which was one hell of a trippy game in itself. And since I am a big propoent of graphics, I hope they can bring same level of quality visuals that RE4 did.
The plot seems interesting and the trailer was a good setup for something related to voodoo something similar. Interesting how they're gonna weave that plot into with the T-virus outbreak. Perhaps they'll throw in some cameo appearances from other RE characters.
I like the idea about lighting playing a major role and love the eye's adjusting to drastic changes in lighting. Sounds like this is going to be a killer game! As for the release date, last time I heard, the producer said not to expect this game until late 2008/early 2009.
Sounds pretty wicked, just hope that it may find its way onto the Wii in some downgraded form. After all the two best versions of RE4 are on Nintendo consoles, including the fact that Capcom tend not to keep their exclusives exclusive.
There'll also be a female character, which fans of the series will recognise apparently. We can expect her to make a brief appearance in the extended trailer due out later this month - which we're told is far better than the E3 one.
I think its got to be claire chris was also code:veronica with her. Also I hope albert wesker is back.
This is a game that could sell a system to me as RE4 was soooo good. If i dont have a 360 or PS3 by the time it comes out i will get one just for this game, that is unless it comes to the Wii, then i might just get it for the Wii as RE4 controls so good on the Wii.
