He's Back!

Liverpool-based development studio, Jester Interactive has just informed us that it has snapped up the rights to a bunch of ZX Spectrum classics including Graft Gold's Paradroid and the now legendary father of platform gaming, Jet Set Willy with a view to re-working them for the booming handheld market.

"Our MD has always been in to Jet Set Willy and Manic Miner," Jester's marketing director Clark Evans told PC Zone this afternoon, "and what spurred us on was when we acquired the rights to Graft Gold and their back catalogue of games."

After months of detective work, Jester has managed to secure the exclusive rights to both Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy from the game's original publisher Software Projects although quite what it is to do with the little chap is not set in stone just yet: "Our initial thoughts are to bring him back on handheld platforms in his original versions, and also to do an updated version to go with it so you get the two games together."

It doesn't stop there for Jester, though. The company has more lofty plans in the pipeline for the nouveau riche collier with the possibility of more games to come on both handheld and next-generation platforms and has plans for a whole line of Miner Willy products and merchandising.

"Jet Set Willy and Manic Miner date back to the days when gameplay was king and these are two of the finest examples of this." Jester MD gavin Morgan added. "This is a fantastic opportunity to see these classics make a comeback, rejuvenated to delight a whole new generation of gamers."

Could our very own home-grown hero have a chance at the limelight, stealing some of the thunder from the likes of Mario and Sonic. Well if Jester can recreate the quality of gameplay of Matthew Smith's originals, the little feller could very well be in with a fighting chance.
