Crytek: "Crysis could be on the 360 or PS3"

Crytek's CEO Cevat Yerli throws gallons of fuel on the gossip fires
Crysis heading to PS3 and Xbox 360 - it's the speculation that's refused to lay down and die and now, dangling a carrot in front of the faces of those who wish it would, Crytek has said it could happen.

"Theoretically, anything could run anywhere", Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli told PC Gamer (UK) magazine when asked if he still believed the first-person shooter couldn't run on console.

"Crysis could be on the 360 or PS3", Yerli said.

"It requires optimisation, that's what we've always communicated", he went on. "What you would not do is make Crysis on PS3, 360 and PC for a single shipping date, because we would lose the quality focus.

"So I say, 'First PC version, then we'll see what happens'."

So don't go singing 'Crysis on console' from the rooftops just yet - Yerli added that there aren't any plans for Crysis on PS3 and Xbox 360 currently. "...it's a matter of how far we can take each platform" and Crytek would not go to a platform unless it could make the game "number one there".

But remember: it could happen...

You can read PC Gamer's full interview with Cevat Yerli in its latest issue, #178, which is out in shops this Thursday.

That'll be awesome if/when it comes to consoles, save me aload of money forking out for a new pc just to play it! Smile

oh this would be so sweet if this were true. i think there is a very gopod chance, i mean the costs for the game compared to the install base of pc's that are able to run it, it makes financial sense to do a releas,e but full applause for not doing a joint release.

This game has realistic physics - Would be better on ps3 cos of faster cpu.
wildhook2 on 31 Jul '07
Of course they could make it for 360 or ps3! Big deal! These developers talk cack. Rolling Eyes
Mark240473 on 31 Jul '07
I hope it does go to the consoles, it would be nice for Crytek to be involved in the console ports themselves this time.
funkyjack on 31 Jul '07
A PS3 port does sound good just as long that is JUST a port. Farcry was truely excellent on PC but Farcry instincts and predator for 360 was just awful. They messed with the whole concept and ripped it's heart out for the sake of making it console friendly. Predator/Instincts is one of the very few games on my 360 that I just can't be bottomd to finish cos it's just soooooo crap. Crying or Very sad

I've got my fingers crossed for this one, from what i've seen it looks amazing and i'm sure both the PS3 and 360 would have no trouble running that sort of high-end quality game!!

Sony need to move in on this one very quickly. That would make a great exclusive.
darren_mccoy on 31 Jul '07
It'll come to at least one of the consoles, probably both.

Its not exclusive if its on the PC Razz

Of course it will come to consoles, its soo obvious its just not funny. Due to all the free advertisement Crysis has recieved even those in the non PC gaming world know about it, theres no better advertisement that the community buzz about a game. If crytek dont do the console port then EA will make sure someone does, however if it goes to another studio for a port i wouldnt hold out on it actually being any good as in the case with Ubisoft releasing Farcry on consoles, which was a blatent cash in

I'm glad it's coming to the PC first. The PC should always be the premiere platform for FPS until they design a better control system for consoles (the Wii should be good for FPS, but it won't be able to handle Crysis).

lol, guaranteed youll get flamed for that, but i agree, joypad in FPS will NEVER beat keyboard and mouse. FPS just dont feel right with a joypad. There would be a 0 chance of the Wii being able to handle a tenth of the gfx and physics of Crysis unfortunately

I don't think it should hit consoles, because I personally think Crysis could easily end up all style and no substance. I hated FarCry because it was so unbelieveably dull. It looked good, but was boring as hell. That's why I think there is no point of Crysis on consoles.
If it loses all the Dx10 bells and whistles, would any of you still be interested? I know I wouldn't.

Look at the trailers and imagine it not looking anywhere near as good as it does... not so compelling anymore is it? Sure, it still looks ok, but not good enough to really distunguish itself from other FPS on the market. My impression so far is that without the flare it could be just another stock FPS.

I disagree but we're all entitled to our own opinions Smile, i think an open ended FPS will be pushed so much further with the ability to have fully destructable environments and the nano suit allowing you to be some form of super hero it well cool especially having the abilities configurable between stealth and speed and what not, but again as with every game, who knows until it is released

I would definately say that the visuals have a lot to do with all the buzz about crysis and it will take some doing to get the same quality on consoles just because its so much easier on PC's with 2 gig ram, and GPUs with 512Mb+
lmimmfn on 31 Jul '07
I personally quite enjoyed Farcry on PC but hated it on consoles. I really didn' see the point in spending all that effort in effectively dumbing it down. Half life 1 and 2 worked on console in it's original format.

I will only be interested in Crysis if it is an authentic port and not a bastardisation.

Ah you're right, those are some features I had totally forgotten about that aren't at all related to the graphics. Perhaps it can stand out from the pack on those merits. We'll have to wait and see.

Does the 360 or ps3 really need crysis though? I mean there enough good games coming out on both systems, I'll have to get a second job to pay for them all anyway.

Yeah, agree. fps are at home on PC - the platform they evolved on.
I hated playing them on console...absolutely hated it.
