Rare has now revealed details on its Viva Pinata game on DS after announcing the title was in development at last week's Comic-Con in the US.
It describes the title as "a full-size Viva Pinata game in your pocket" which features "not only the entire range of paper beasts from the Xbox 360 title but also a few new ones thrown in to spice things up for those familiar with the established cast." Sounds sweet. Ahem.
Rare continues, "You'll also be given free rein with an expanded selection of tools and tool actions, upgraded forms of the Journal and Encyclopaedia, and brand new game modes such as Sandbox (for full and easy access to your favourite Pińatas) and Episodes (tying in more closely to the TV series and allowing fans of the show to spend quality time with familiar faces)."
On of the greatest changes, it says, is the control method, the DS's stylus input "transforming the way in which you interact with your menagerie".
"Design, nurture, instruct, protect and care for your garden and animals through direct touch. The DS WiFi service also lets you send prime Pińata specimens to your friends, making the act of parading your Doenut around in a humiliating pirate outfit easier than ever."
While we wait for further details, join us in looking at the first screenshot from Viva Pinata on DS - which you can find top-right of this here page.
The DS version don't look to shabby, I am hoping that the stylus will play a big part in this game as it would be a perfect interface to use in regards to the style of the game!
I already can’t wait for this! The graphics look better than I thought they would.
I think Viva Pińata will find a more welcoming audience on the DS than it did on the 360, and if it’s a really good game it might make people without a 360 think about getting one – if Microsoft do a bit of clever 360 marketing inside the Viva Pińata DS game box.

Viva Pinata is a great game.
If it was a great game then people would have bought it. I tried it and was bored after an hour. Too kidish but at the same time too complicated for kids.
This does look good. The DS is the right platform for this product. I must admit I didn't play this on my 360 very much as the control wasn't that intuitive for me. It's good to see Rare still supporting Nintendo products. No chance of a Wii version of course.
Too kidish but at the same time too complicated for kids.
Yawn. Really? Are you not just spouting common knowledge? It's what everyone says. Throw a little originality in please if you're going to bother to comment.

Sorry, did'nt realise it was cliche'. Just my own take on the franchise.

You are wrong on that part. It does not matter if it is a great game. It does not have licensed football players or blood and guts so therefore it would not sell on the 360 or Playstation3. A great game is not judged by the number of sales, Ico can vouch for that! Perhaps if you had looked past the 'Kiddie' part the you would have found a great game. Just because something looks bright and colourful does not mean it is kiddie. Grow up and you may find many more great games to play. Nintendo is a fine example of bright, colourful games that are often fantastic but overlooked by the playstation generation because they have no blood.

Clearly you have a lot of growing up to do. If you truly like games then you will realise that Viva pinata is not a kiddie game. If you are more worried about how people will percieve you for playing a bright and colourful game then you are indeed far more childish than a happy slapper!

But it's not even a good kiddies game! Sure the graphics were good on the 360 but the controls were poor and it just was'nt as fun as Pokemon or Sims.

It's a shame it's not coming out on PS3, as this guy would never shut up about how great it suddenly is because it's on a Sony console.

What drugs do you take? I'd rather play something like ratchet and clank or mario than viva soddin' pinata. Too many other better games coming out to even care about it. Just don't get so worked up because I don't like it - I am sure you can set up a fan club with the other 4 people who bought it on the 360.
Rare used to be my favourite developer but they've gone well off the boil, forget Viva Pinata, give me Blast Corps or Jet Force Gemini or Banjo Kazooie or DK64 or even Battletoads!
People expect too much from Rare. They made some good games for the N64 and suddenly found themselves classed as gods. I feel sorry for them. Since they have been bought by MS they have some some quality games in Kameo, Viva Pinata and Perfect Dark Zero. Reviews score even reflect this. Sadly the target audience most of Rare's game are aimed at are busy buying Wii's...
