Wednesday 1-Aug-2007 10:01 AM "Worst case scenario is, we port them and we put them through certification and we put them up as downloadable content", Mark Rein tells CVG
Epic Games is making every effort to bring the Unreal Tournament III mod scene to Xbox 360, the developer has told CVG.
The open nature of PlayStation Network has meant it's not been a problem bringing UT III mods to PS3, but Xbox Live's essentially closed network is causing a stumbling block. However, Epic VP Mark Rein has said the dev hopes "to find a way to bring mods over to the Xbox 360".
"That's part of the reason we announced we were shipping the game on PC and PS3 this Fall, but we don't have a date for the Xbox 360 version - it'll be some time after the new year. Part of that is because we haven't been able to figure out just how we're going to do the mods. And Microsoft's got a very busy Christmas schedule... We just couldn't get enough attention from them to solve that problem", Rein said.
So Epic currently doesn't have the answers to how the UT III mod scene on Xbox 360 is going to work, and it's something the developer isn't 100 percent guaranteeing will materialise - but it wants it to happen.
"Worst case scenario is, we port them and we put them through certification and we put them up as downloadable content," Rein added.
"That's the worse case scenario. Hopefully between now and whenever it is we ship on Xbox 360, we figure out a user-managed way to do it."
PC or PS3 is the place to be with this game, I reckon. The open network of the psn is an unexpected advantage over xbox live and will benefit LBP also.
indeed, I am looking forward to seeing how PSN shapes up over the coming years. Now all they need to do is cut 100 quid off and I may even buy one of the things to play this with!
Im tempted to pick up the ps3 version but all my mates own 360s and I know id have a better time with the game if I just waited that little bit longer and pick up the 360 version instead.

Maybe convince your mates to get a ps3?.....
But I'm sure he still wants to keep his mates.
If MS charge for the user mods they can stick their points up their bottom.
PC is the way to go for me...if only to get my grubby mits on the dev tools for modding purposes!
I think having to go through the process of getting mods certificated etc. is inevitably going to mean they have to charge consumers to download the mods on 360...this is not neccessarily a bad thing imo, if they keep the price low at like 200 MS points, and if the mod teams got some of the money (as they justly deserve it) it could be a great way for talented Modders to get som recognition in the industry.

Urgh the amount of stick I got of them when I bought the thing. Considering the amount of time I spend on it I am starting to think it was an ill advised purchase. For now anyway.

reminds me of when I bought a Saturn.
Oh yes I too suffered from those painfull memories. Sadly I did not learn from my misinformed purchases of the mega cd and 32x previously.
The Saturn was one of the best consoles I ever bought although I am a mark for Sega's games Vf Sega rally etc, on topic however I believe the closed nature of live does have more pro's than cons to it & I am sure that if the mods are free on the PS3 then MS & epic can find a way of offering the same content on 360 without incuring more cost to the paying public.
The worst case scenario seems like the best case scenario to me - Epic cherry pick the best mods - iron out any bugs - make sure they're not gonna kill my 360 (yes I know the 360 doesn't need any help with that)and then put them on live. Job done.

All consoles go through the initial dry patch - it was the same when I bought a 360. Hang on fella, it will be worth the patience very soon. I mean, come september you won't have enough money to buy all the games that you will want!
Hmmmm....I don't think I will be able to bring myself to get this for the PS3, the Sixaxis is pants for FPS games compared to the 360 controller.
Also at present I think Live is a lot more fun to play on.
The PS3 version looks like it might have an edge on the content side though.
I think it will be a rental and weigh it up from there.
You do know that you can plug a USB mouse and keyboard into the PS3 right?
Yeah, for web browsing etc..for games, I think it is down to wether is Devs make the game compatiable with keyboard and mouse.
If there is an option to play UT3 with a keyboard and mouse on PS3 that would be sweet.
Have you heard anything official on this?
you could always try this. its a third party mouse controller for ps3. i read a review on ign ages ago and they seemed to quite like it (can't find that review tho ) it's basically got the mouse on a little lap pad and an extra thing for the left had kinda like the wii nun chuck, which has the left stick and L buttons, and also sixaxis control.

The problem is Im actually not that keen on any of the games coming out for it this year. Heavenly sword is a very poor version of god of war, lair looks awful, never was a fan of ratchet and clank and Uncharted just looks a bit too much like tomb raider. Im sure that the games that will justify my purchase will come eventually just not this year.

But... in several other threads you've said that you might be tempted to buy a 360 soon?
At least you are better-spoken than the average fanboy lol.
PC will be the best version of this game. As for the best console version, well 360 will most likley win that, even if you have to pay for the mods. Im really glad though that this wont be released until next year on 360 as there are just too many great games coming out and sadly I feel this one would have gone neglected. Hopefully Epic release this around March when everyone's done with the 2007 games. All they need to do is sort the mods out and slap 'from the makers of Gears Of War' on the box and it will fly off the shelves...
