Devs don't have rumbling SixAxis, says Sony

The new pads are enhanced, but there's no rumble...
Sony US PR spokesman Dave Karraker has denied reports that new rumble-enabled SixAxis prototypes have been sent to developers.

Dev's have been sent revised controllers, but Karraker assured: "we have not added rumble and have no announcements regarding this feature."

He went on to clarify: "From time to time, we make minor enhancements to the controllers for our platforms. ... We recently sent out to the development community some new prototypes that have a slightly enhanced sensitivity for the analogue sticks and the motion sensing within the SixAxis controller.

"This is not a new controller, but is part of the normal development and evolution of controllers," he added.

Rumble is only any good for racing games and I plan to buy a decent wheel when Sega Rally comes out. Still, it would be nice. Confused

What are you talking about? Rumble is near enough a must have for FPS!

Yeah true enough, but the ps3 is arguably less of a fps console than the 360.

I like the PS3 but I admit I really, really miss rumble in its game. The "feel" is missing from games like Virtua Tennis 3 and Oblivion compared with the 360 versions and the weapons in FPSs definitely lack that certain something. The only good thing about not having rumble is that the batteries last longer! Until the PS3 gets a rumbling controller, I shall continue to buy all my multiformat games for the 360, it's as simple as that.

The news that devs don't actually have the new rumbling controller is not what I was wanting to hear to be honest. Sad

So with all this refinement that is present in the latest controllers, does this mean that the current controllers wont work as well in games as the newer ones?

Are $ony going to be forcing people to be buying newer controllers because the older ones are not as refined as the newer ones?

You can just hear the excuses at the end of online matches now, "You only shot me 20 times because I have an original controller and you have a newer one"

Sony do not know best. Rumble has been with us for 10yrs for a reason. People like force-feedback in their games.

It's a nice connection that sixaxis may never replace..

Ive no idea what you are basing that statement on. Resistence was the best original game on the PS3, and then we have the likes of Fear and Ghost recon etc, etc. Most of the FPS on 360 will make an appearance on the PS3, cause aside from Halo, not many are exclusive franchises.

Forget about FPS shooters for a sec though, its vital to have a rumble in beat em ups, anything with a gun, and what of games like Metal Gear which used the Rumble so well in previous incarnations?

Dont kid yourself mate, no rumble = a big loss.

Hey, I love Resistance as well and I still play it online, but I have rarely thought about a lack of rumble. However, I still believe rumble will be available in time for MGS next year. Very Happy

If you recall, sony also said there wasn't going to be any changes made to the PSP, even though the rumour was rife for several months and a price drop for the PSP seemed to indicate they were trying to get rid of old stock.

It was only at E3 the rumours finally became true and the new PSP was announced.

The point is sony don't let you know anything until they decide the time is right, so i'm almost certain they have the rumble pads out there.
