TimeSplitters 4 - first details

Free Radical Design gives CVG the heads-up on the fourth game in the series
UK studio Free Radical Design has confirmed to CVG that development of TimeSplitters 4 is well underway and anything is possible regarding the platforms it'll launch on.

"Yes, TimeSplitters 4 is happening. At the moment it's in the very early concept stages, and as yet it's unsigned to any publisher," Free Radical Design's screenwriter Rob Yescombe told us.

Regarding a platform it looks like there are no specific exclusive plans although that could change when the game's gets picked up by a publisher. You've got to think that PS3 would be a prim(ate) target given the series' history and success on PS2. "Anything and everything is currently a possibility. We're not saying no to anything," added Yescombe.

It's a bit early to talk specifics regarding gameplay and story but Yescombe did tell us that, "TimeSplitters 4 will be a great big joke at the expense of the world of games - ourselves included. God, that's a terrible sound bite. Can you just make one up and make me sound hilarious? No, wait, just say that I /*have*/ a hilarious sound bite, but it's still in the very early concept stage."

Don't expect a release this side of Christmas though: "The game's not a very long way away but it's not a very short way away either. It's somewhere in the middle. Is that non-specific enough?"

Luckily we've got the awesome-looking Haze to deal with this year and the prospect of a new TimeSplitters game next year.

this can not fail to be brilliant, and with decent online play this will be essential. prey have been answered

i think timesplitters 2 was one of the best (if not the best) fps ever. the multiplayer was incredible... now on a next gen console the online multiplayer should be the best fps multi player available, absolutely cannot wait.

What the HELL?! I'm guessing you've not played many FPS games & pretty much all of them have been on consoles right? Rolling Eyes

I dont understand why there isnt a pc version of timesplitters, id love to play online but that was never made possible on the ps2 and gamecube (correct me if im wrong). Plus it'd be better on pc.

Timesplitters 2 was a fantastic FPS on the PS2, so I am stoked to hear the 4th one is in development Smile

The original Timesplitters was amazing!

Timesplitters 2 was amazing!

Timesplitters 3 was also pretty cool to a degree, but EA were involved, and so the gameplay seemed to change for the worst slightly.

Timesplitters 4 will hopefully be incredible!

I mean the whole series had amazingly catchy and rad songs, and hopefully TS4 will become exclusive to PS3 only!

Why do I say this? Well because imagine this; All of the previous songs that you ever loved could be put onto one blu-ray disk, along with a whole massive line up of new songs, characters, features, cheats (like human gun sounds in Timesplitters 3), and map maker can benefit from the Playstation 3's hard drive. Imagine this; You start making a map, and you're only being limited by the size of your hard drive, and how much space you have left on it. The maps could be huge, and the possibilities almost endless. Wink

Besides, this could be the start of another Timesplitters trilogy (hopefully if all goes well), and the original was a Playstation 2 exclusive. I can only hope.

Anyway, I can't wait for it. It's going to be sweet!

I reckon that if Haze does really well later this year when it's released, TS4 will be exclusive (or at least time-exclusive) on the PS3. You can get more of Timesplitters like the music, characters and a more detailed map-Maker if it were on Blu-Ray

The 3rd was fooking brilliant online on the Xbox (after a patch sorted things), not to mention the awesome offline modes too!

Glad they're making this, my favourite FPS series by far.

Pretty exciting news. Timesplitter has always been a great game for multiplayer fun.
My only problem is that the control are some what dated and need re-hauling if this one is going to stand out in the sea on console FPS...
If not then this one will be getting overlooked by me.
vulcanraven01 on 8 Aug '07
sony should pay free radical to make it an exclusive....for once.
madrandall on 8 Aug '07
If this is a PS3 exclusive I'm going to politely knock on Free Radicals doors and kick them all in the shins. Very hard.

That'll learn 'em.

I wanna play too!
MrPirtniw on 8 Aug '07
Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

I have been waiting for this news since I completed Timesplitters 3 (with everything platinum!!!)

Free Radical at the end of last year were hoping to expand by 100 people from some insider knowledge I have Wink So they have more then enough people to finish off Haze so it can go Gold and be released, get Star wars... sorry the secret Lucas arts project.... through alpha/beta.... and start what will be the amazing TS4.

Can't wait..... look out noobies Twisted Evil

shut up u fool! you wouldnt Know what a brilliant game was if it took a chunk out of ur fat bottom! how dear u bad mouth such an amazing game like timesplitters! Evil or Very Mad
Mr McGarry on 20 Aug '07
i hope it's released on the ps3, 360 and wii, all with online play modes. i really hope there's no plans for a ps2 version, because then it would just be another easy port for the wii. instead of resizing the the ps3/360 version. which is possible because call of duty 3, and blazing angels both made for the 360, got remade for the wii. it just takes more effort!
