Halo 3 on PC not in development... yet

"I can tell you for a fact that there's not one line of code written for a PC version at this point", says Bungie
Should Halo 3 not come out on PC, we'll eat our own hairy backs. Like flagship Xbox games Halo, Halo 2 and Gears of War before it, it's clearly going to end up on Windows.

However, Bungie says it's not even a twinkle in its eye at the moment - understandably so as it's approaching the release of Halo 3 on Microsoft's console.

"I can tell you for a fact that there's not one line of code written for a PC version at this point", Bungie's Frank O'Connor has told GameSpot.

"We're not working on it, Microsoft hasn't even chatted to us about it yet. They realise the important thing is to get the 360 version [out] at this point."

We'd fully expect Halo 3 on PC to support cross-platform online play with Xbox 360 over Live, and for this reason we wouldn't be surprised if we saw a far shorter release gap between Halo 3 on 360 and PC that we saw with Halo and Halo 2 on PC and Xbox.

If I were Bungie/M$, I'd save your cash and leave it on the 360. I've never wanted to play a Halo game on my PC, and looking at the sales charts, no one else wants to either.

Unless its just Vista screwing things up.

Be gone with your neon!!

Nah, FPS is always better on PC unless you have keyboard and mouse setup for the console, reason Halo 2 didnt sell is because it looks total crap by todays standards, its a direct port, the didnt even increase the texture resolution, what looked fine on a tv on an old xbox just looks like snot on a decent PC

If it doesnt it will be another mega flop on the PC and look completely outdated if they wait, im not pushed either way tbh

I'm expecting some bashing but....

Halo's single player is a poor man's half life! There I said it. It's Multiplayer is pretty decent though.

Yes and it will end up the same as Halo 2 on the pc, as by the time it appears on pc it will boring and outdated compared to the current crop that will be out at that time.
pR!M8 on 16 Aug '07
This is going to happen, sooner or later....

still few people will buy it... we have Crysis, who needs shooting skittles on his PC ??
mouzer on 16 Aug '07
halo 3 will be outdated before its release (bioshock anyone) let alone after its release

I cant help but feel, microsoft is harming 360 sales by allowing triple A games to be released on PC. I mean, I bought my 360 because of exclusives like Gears Of War and Halo 3. If I knew then, that I'll end up seeing both games on PC, I would have bought the PS3 instead. Does any body else feel the same way?.

Wow, every time a piece of Halo news comes up the PC fanboys jump out to tear Halo down.

I don't understand comments like "Halo is a poor man's Half Life". They are different types of games.

Halo is a different type of game. It has expansive outdoor levels, it has vehicles, online CO-OP(!), loads of weapons, a great storyline and a good cast of characters.

I don't see how it's a poor man's HL. It's got a seperate grenade button and a dedicated melee button. Two good ideas that I can't find in Half Life.

But perhaps my biggest point of all is that whenever HL news comes up, you don't find Xbox gamers going along and denouncing it inferior to Halo. Why do PC gamers feel the need to tear down everything that is both successful and for a console?

Seriously, someone tell me why you do that. It reeks of jealousy. And don't call me an Xbox fanboy either, nor a Halo one. That quote in my sig? It's from Deus Ex, a great PC game.

Gamers confuse me. In the face of enemies like the Daily Mail, Jack Thompson and all who think of videogames as a strange obsession, we turn on each other and argue. We take great pride in "converting" each other to our console of choice. It's rediculous.

We bicker and fight over what games and good and what games are bad? Everyone has different opinions. Can't we see that? To use that immortal quote: Can't we all just get along?

Halo is a good FPS, but well PC gamers tend to see better FPS games. then we get Halo games 2, 3 years after the Xbox version was out -who wants to pay for an out-dated game?

Vehicles - tonnes of games have that; HL, GTA, to mention a few...
Online Co-op - but thats going to be introduced now (in Halo).

Shocked
Erm sorry, did you ever play a game??

Thats because Xbox gamers are too dumb to understand the story. LOOOL im joking
But man, how can some one lie upon the truth ??

"Halo is a good FPS, but well PC gamers tend to see better FPS games"

Get down from your high horse, mate. I can understand the thing about Halo 2 pc release years after the console version, but despite looking dated, It plays well.

Halo isn't a poor mans half life- anyone sho spouts that crap needs to get a grip. As much as I enjoyed Half Life 2- it just wasn't as much fun to play IMO. Plus the Chief is cooler than Gordon Freeman.

Yeah, you heard!

Plus both Halo 2 and Half Life 2 have shockingly bad endings... if you can call them endings.

Halo games are good shooters, on the X360 but on the PC they aren't that special. Smile

I never said Halo is a poor... -well whatever- infact i played Halo3 beta, still its an overrated piece of sh**. Half Life 2 is awesomeness, Ill bet you will be the first to buy the Orange Box. Razz

And Gordon Freeman is the Owner Pwner! MC is just a motorcyclist with a glued helmet on top of him Razz

you can both just leave. now. Laughing jk

anyway, although i rank half-life 1&2 very near the top of my personaly best games list, i wouldn't compare it to halo, they're quite different. although i haven't played much of the single player, the multiplayer is undeniably one of the best out there. hell i've never even owned an xbox and i can still see that (many brilliant lan parties have convinced me of itWink).

but anyway, i think it is a bit of a mistake for micrsoft to keep releading their first-party exclusives on pc. it's one of the factors stopping me from buying a 360; most of the games i want for it are/will be out for pc anyway.

but hey, who am i to tell microsoft what to do? they seem to be doing pretty well without my input Wink
Underdose on 16 Aug '07
360 titles appearing on the PC does hurt MS, but im so glad it happens as I far prefer mouse+keyboard to joypad for FPS'.

Half Life and Halo can be compared, they're the same genre. And.. I prefer HL by quite some way.

But yes... I doubt I'd buy a 360 if the games weren't ported so at least the games sell.

You know, Halo is a great game on any platform. I loved it on PC, better visuals and control...also liked it on Xbox too tho.

The trouble is its released sooo late on PC it's allways dated before it arrives. PC gamers havent got the bug for it as a result.

sadly the same will happen this time...Halo 3 will arrive at a time when it no longer looks special compared to the best PC games.

Releasing Halo 2 on vista only was a f****g joke frankly, It should have been a special price for its age, and available to any windows OS.

A move like that just turns PC gamers off the franchise...which is a shame.

Somehow I don't think you get the point stupid. I don't know how this puts me in the fanboy category either. I simply made a point regarding Microsoft's strategy. I couldn't care less if they lose sales. The point is if you're a fan of the likes of Halo 3 and Killzone 2 you're more likely to purchase the PS3 because you'll still be able to enjoy the 360 games on the PC. Get it STUPID. Oh and this also apply's to doomthree. DUMBASS.
