Jack Thompson, our favourite angry attorney, has been a bit quiet of late. With Manhunt 2 postponed and GTA IV delayed, he hasn't got much to moan about these days... or at least you'd think so.
According to a comment apparently posted by Thompson on Game Politics, it looks like the videogame-hating attorney is about to set his sights on 2K's Bioshock - the gorgeous shooter that's currently getting top marks from the gaming press.
"Please note that big trouble is on the way for Take-Two re BioShock" states Thompson, likely enraged by the game's large abundance of adult content and highly-detailed hookers. No, hold on...
Bioshock is a violent game no-doubt, and it does have little girls for you to kill at will - but it's blatantly heavily wrapped in a fantasy world and isn't supposed to recreate real life in the same ways as say GTA. How many times have you shot fire balls from your wrist?
Next on the hit list: Beautiful Katamari, for disgusting scenes of mindless destruction and sticky theft.

Drug use and little girl murder gives him fuel for this, but I reckon he's just out to harm Take-Two. It's never about the games after all, it's about the publicity, and old Jackie boy has never seen eye to eye with Take-Two. The months of silence had me thinking that he'd been committed or killed or something... no such luck.
When Take Two heard about this the only thing that they'll really have thought would be, "Woo Hoo! More free publicity!" cos Jack doesn't seem to realise that that's all he's really doing, as well as making himself look like a complete berk.
I doubt it's about the game, the content or Take Two. I think that it's just the highest profile game at the mo, so he's trying to attach his name to it, like some kind of deluded lamprey.
After reading some of his comments on game-politics.com, it seems highly unprofessional of a lawyer to engage with a community he's solely fighting against in this way. If anything, he's the Ned Flanders religious type that is only craving attention by actually engaging like this, so I ask CVG and other websites to not report or publicise him.
If the problem is the Little Sisters and I was 2KG, I'd release a mod for Bioshock that replaces them with tiny Jack Thomspsons. Same voice, same size, but just a different model.

It's at this stage I find Jack a less credible stand up citizen for the people and more a 'rent-a-marketing-baffoon' gimmick for upcoming games. Now that he's said he's against, it's gonna fly off shelves like proverbial off a shovel.
His arguements hold no water at all. No if you'll excuse me, there's a chap in a divers outfit looking at me funny so I'm gonna batter him senseless.
If his interference managed to stop Bioshock getting the 'decent' sales it will get, it would be a travesty.
It's only gonna be good for sales. Since it's already gone through certification, there is no was he'll get it banned, except maybe in some backward US state. If anything, it'll get Bioshock the retail acclaim it deserves. All publicity is good publicity; I mean, he's never harmed the GTA sales, has he?

He is an almighty c**kmuncher, but at the same time you can see exactly how he can pitch his case to the uninitiated:

Of course, the argument that they aren't little girls any more will fall on deaf ears. Just as the similar argument did a few weeks ago, about the enemies in Resident Evil 5 being black people...
Giving the player a moral choice in a game means that you have to allow them the freedom to do the wrong thing. If you remove the ability to do wrong then you remove that choice.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's all a facade - to generate more publicity for their games, developers pay off "crazy Jack Thompson" (there's got to be an anagram in there somwhere) to make people take notice.
Well, that's what I have to tell myself when he starts attacking games with no credibiity left.

At least in the game, you're given a moral choice as to whether you save the Little Sisters or kill them. You're not forced to murder them, which I'm sure Jack Thompson will try and have people believe, along with drug taking, child abuse and so forth....
Let's hope he doesn't read this. The last thing we need is giving him ideas.

For Jack to think his 'moral crusade' is still relevant means he's either delusional or in the employ of Take-2, for all his bluster only racks up sales of the game he pinpoints for an ill-researched rant.
As Bioshock is in little need of the latter's form publicity due to its seeming amazingness, I can only conclude Mr. Thomson is completely and utterly off his fucking rocker! Take a hint, Jack! It's why Hillary Clinton no longer takes your calls!
Leave him too it. His own plan backfires every time he tries to ban a game, its ultimatley self defeating. All he manages to do, each and every time, is boost a games publicity.
Remember GTA (The first one), it was a slightly below average game but because it was nearly banned it was a instant smash hit and became legendary.
The other big problem with taking on Bioshock is that the game cannot be lumped in with the others he's attemped to ban/damage.
Basically, Bioshock looks to be just like System Shock in that it makes you question if the various things we're developing are a good idea.
With the shock games, they often focus on a few issues, such as AI, gene therapy, cloning... basically where morals have come crashing down for the big buck (System shock) or the persuit of perfection (bioshock)...
Thompson doesn;t realise that this is one of the games that makes you THINK about where we're heading in some directions, in our society now.
The fact that it separates this into a "could be" fictional world makes it more stark and hard hitting.
Even Penny Arcade has mentioned that for console gamers, Bioshock is a "different" game in that it challenges your own morals and beliefs in a way that we PC gamers have been treated to before.
Personally, I think JT should calm down and just persue something else, before his court action ends up with Bioshock presenting it's myriad of sources, inspirations and moral choices as defence and ends up making him look silly.

i think i've worked it all out.... Jack, back when he was a little kid, was raped by a fat italian plumber... who happened to appear all red due to the blood pouring out from thompson's mother, who had previously stomped said mother to death.
