September 26 will see Microsoft release the Halo 3 Special Edition Xbox 360, which will set you back £279.99.
The special edition console sports a Spartan green and gold finish, and in the pack you'll get the machine along with:
Halo 3 Special Edition Wireless Controller
Halo 3 Special Edition 20GB Hard Drive
Halo 3 Special Edition Wired Headset
Halo 3 Special Edition Gamer Pics and Theme (Exclusive download via Xbox LIVE)
Component HD AV Cable
Ethernet Cable
HDMI Port
Play & Charge Kit
Xbox LIVE Silver Membership
One-month Xbox LIVE Gold Membership
What? No Halo 3 game? Nope - a Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed with us that there's no Halo 3 game included with the Special Edition console. D'oh! And we're disappointed that it's only the 20GB hard drive as opposed to the new 120GB HDD.
For £20 more you could get the extra 100GB on your hard drive by buying the Xbox 360 Elite, which is £299.99.
On its own, the 120GB HDD costs £129.99. Microsoft has of course recently announced a price cut for the Core and Premium Xbox 360 packages, the former now costing £179.99 (down 20 quid) and the latter £249.99 (down from £279.99). The new prices are effective as of tomorrow.
What a f*cking rip off! Why would anyone want to bye one anyway? The console is ugly as sin! It looks like somebody opened the ark of the covenant! Pure ungly!
That is appalling. How can they get away with this s**t? Because people will buy it, that's why. As aforesaid, to not include the game with this is jsut no acceptable. I can understand about the HDD but the game not being there is totally unforgiveable.
LOL This is a complete rip-off! For starters it doesn't even include the game and for £20 more you could get the Elite... Can't believe MS will let this opportunity pass them by. They could have just thrown Halo 3 in with this and slapped a £250 price tag on it and watched them fly off the shelves.
Sorry but only a muppet would have thought you'd get the game as-well for £280. Your paying £50 extra for a special edition console but you think you should also get the game as-well which in itself costs £50. Wouldn't really be a special edition then would it? May as-well just make them all have fancy Halo3 pics on!
I wasn't paying attention reading the article, and I thought it was a good deal for a bundle with the game, yet still thinking it's an ugly colour - so what a rip-off.
A brushed silver would be nice, or some complete battle damaged looking one would be better than that and would be fitting for such a faulty console.
Hmmm. Me no likey. I think I'll stick to my dumb plan to get an elite tomorrow. Might get a Halo-themed remote though, if they come up for sale separately. They're rather swish.
Oh, and did anyone else find Microsoft's statement,
"Please be advised that Xbox 360 Elite is intended for new console owners. Users who desire expanded storage are advised to purchase the 120GB hard-drive accessory rather than Xbox 360 Elite."
A bit bloody rude? I'll waste my money any damn way I choose, Bill Gates. Just sell me the friggin' console, already.
how can MS even justify selling a premium console with Halo 3 on it with no game bundled for £279.99 when the premium consoles themselves have just been dropped to £249.99?
looks like u get the charger though?? this is at about £20 - £30. so works out about the same as the premium doesnt it? plus u get the HDMI port.. does that mean the new premium HDMI models are nearly out.
yeah and they never included halo cause anyone stupid enough to buy a halo themed console will want to buy the most expensive halo game (lengendary or whatever) and they never wanted to charge the extra ?£60 on top of the £279
The cahrger costs £40 from my local retailer -scammer- but i dont see the point of this themed console... An Xbox Elite has 6 times more storage, costing £300, being black and HDMI so well its kind of a mess.
I think Vercetti just hit the nail on the head: if you're so crazy-bonkers about Halo that you get goosebumps over a 360 that looks like Master Chief's breadbin, you're probably one of the loons that'll shell out another £60+ to have a dinky-doo statue of his head.
I can't believe they release the Halo 3 special edition Xbox with the Halo 3 game it's Just rediculous. Also for £20 more, as well as the memory, the Elite just looks better too.
Just because M$ isn't bundling the game with it doesn't mean the retailers won't.
If the release is for a limited time the resale value of the console may be high like the original green xbox.
I bet many retailers will bundle Halo with the console for less than £300 notes.
I think ppl forget M$ are in this business for the money and need every penny if they plan to break even any time soon, Plus M$ don't like giving games away with consoles.
Basically this is a the new elite console, with a green and gold paint job and a smaller hdd.
MS missed a trick here, the halo 3 xbox 360 should have been limted just couple of thousand, come with a 120gb hdd and halo 3 the game.
But as it is, its only worth it if your getting a lengendary edition of the game and want a green console to go with the game.
Still should have came with the 120gb hdd, even if that would have pushed the price up for 20 quid, it still saves you a hundred on buying the larger hard drive.
MS this is the first mistake (apart from RROD break downs and too small heat sinks).
What a con and a wasted opportunity for microsoft! Some suckers will get it, but there is no denying that its mega fugly!!!! Orange and green! That is so last year!!!
Bring out a Gears Elite and you might have me interested!
It's not like we didn't know Microsoft wasn't already full of con artists, considering the whole Vista deal.
Now I don't own a 360 or any next gen console (PC next month mind you) but today I was in the store, and saw that the 360 (and PS3 ones too, grr) controllers were 50$ each! That's nearly three times the price of a PS2 wireless controller (PS2 not 3)! That's just appalling, if you ask me.
