GC: We wont have Madden's PS3 problems, says 2K

"NBA 2K will run at 60fps on PS3 and Xbox 360," says 2K Sports, unlike EA's PS3 version of Madden...
2K Sports games like NBA 2K8 won't have the same "sluggish" PS3 problems as EA's Madden 08, the publisher told CVG this afternoon.

"Our [PS3 version] does run at 60fps," said 2K Sports PR Manager Anthony Chau, in response to Madden 08's less smooth framerate on PS3. I can safely say that NBA 2K will run at 60fps on PS3 and Xbox 360.

The most prominent complaint over Madden 08 on PS3 came from newspaper USA Today, which said: "action stutters far too often, particularly on injuries, penalties and turnovers. There's also a half-second delay between pressing the hike button and receiving the ball in your hands. Even close-ups between play look dull when lined up against the 360's sleeker cut scenes."

EA's official excuse was that, "many publishers have been developing titles for the Xbox 360 for over 3 1/2 years while everyone who publishes now for the PlayStation 3 with the exception of Sony has been developing for the PlayStation 3 for only a little over one full year."

2K seems to agree, telling us: "it's pretty tough on PS3 but I think it's because most developers have had the Xbox 360 longer in terms of development than the PS3."

No more excuses now guys...

Sigh 2K what a cheap move that was!

How can you compare basketball to American football?

Try making the basketball court 8 times bigger, putting grass on it, twice as many players, about 60,000 more spectators and if your game still runs at 60fps on PS3 then you can take shots like that!

okay, but EA's own Fifa team says its game runs at 60 fps on the PS3, and there's just as much grass, just as many players, and just as many spectators in a footbal/soccer game as their are in a football/NFL game.

Well, 60fps FTW then eh everybody? Smile

Tight multi format deadlines and releasing the game without failure. What did you really expect from EA? They could have delayed it and have it optimised to get the full frame rate.

Yes it is difficult to code for (A problem which the Saturn also had) but I'm sure a month or two delay could have sorted it .

NBA2K8 is built to a multi-platform lowest common denominator with fewer, less complex, polygons per frame of animation. Madden 2008 has FAR more complex polygons with FAR more geometric processing, and much more Artificial Intelligence needed as a result of the fact that there are SO MANY more players on the field in Football. Basketball has a much smaller number of players on the field, and that does make a big difference. As a result, the 275,000,000 polygons per second that the PS3 offers is more than enough to allow NBA 2K8 to run at 60 frames per second; however, the same could not be said for Madden 2008 (or the other Football games). Obviously, the 500,000,000 polygons offered by the Xbox 360 is more than enough to allow 60 frames per second for NBA 2K8, FIFA 2008, Madden 2008, NCAA Football 2008, and All-Pro Football 2K8.

Let me take the time to explain in more detail.

Here is a statement that EA issued to the public that explained why Madden 2008 and the other Football games on both systems run at 60fps on the Xbox 360, but only 30fps on the Playstation 3, even though other sports games do run at 60fps on both systems.

In a written statement, Todd Sitrin, EA’s vice president of marketing sports branding, said that its games are tweaked in different ways to fit the different consoles.

“In designing a game, there are all sorts of tradeoffs that include frame rate, visuals, features, AI, etc. Football is an extremely challenging sport to replicate because of the number of people on the field, their interaction, and the scope of the environments. As you can see, every company making a football game this year made a decision that the best experience for the Xbox 360 included 60fps whereas the best experience for the PS3 was 30fps.”

In my opinion, the Playstation 3 has MUCH BIGGER PROBLEMS than that!!!...although, those are still some big problems.

But think about how the new Playstation 3 games have been getting reviewed SO POORLY by all of the reliable sources. At best, you could say that the games are getting, "Mixed Reviews," but in reality, they are getting mostly poor reviews!

i wrote ths informatoion elsewhere during a different subject, but I think it applies here, too.

Warhawk ended up being a disappointment in the reviews.

Warhawk was rated only a 6.5 out of 10 by PSM magazine. Warhawk is called, "A third person shooter that never gets off the ground."

This is NOT a surprise, because Warhawk REQUIRES at least two people to play, and there is NO MODE where Bots can be used in the place of people!!! THAT SUCKS!!!

In Warhawk, the final version of the game ended up where machine guns from people on the ground can actually shoot down the Warhawk... That SUCKS!!! And men on the ground with rocket launchers can shoot the Warhawk out of the sky in one shot... That SUCKS!!! That is why Warhawk is rated so poorly.

That's still better than Lair. Lair only got a rating of 5 out of 10 from PSM, and only 5.5 out of 10 from EGM.

Heavenly Sword is another game that is receiving very "Mixed Reviews."

Heavenly Sword received a rating of only 6 out of 10 from Edge.

Heavenly Sword received a rating of 7 out of 10 IGN, and other 7 out of 10 from IGN UK.

The 6 out of 10 from Edge is a REALLY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT for Heavenly Sword.
