Valve Software has hinted that Nintendo's Wii will factor into its development plans in the future, Gabe Newell describing the console as "more valuable" than Xbox 360 and PS3.
While the developer has nothing in production for Wii at the moment, Newell has said the console "represents big opportunities as a whole" and describes Valve's current no-Wii-game status as "an obvious hole in our strategy".
Unlike Xbox 360 and PS3, both of which Newell says you can pretty much think of as a PC, "You can't think of Wii as graphics, CPU, texture bandwith scaling, you have to think of it as more fundamentally".
"...I think it's more valuable. I think it's more interesting than just graphics chip - CPU combination", he added in an interview with Game Informer.
Newell's obviously very taken with Wii - "It's the machine I have at home", he says - and his comments on the console are certainly very suggestive of plans at Valve to develop for the machine. But, if that did happen, would if be Half-Life?
I'd like to see Valve create a new IP for the Wii. Yeah, Half-Life on Wii would be nice, but I think it's a great opportunity for Valve to stamp their own mark on the Wii with something unique that you couldn't do/get on the XBox 360 or PS3.
bit of a surprise considering their previous stance on the console, and considering the kind of games they make you can guarantee it will be a much more serious title than most wii games if they do have something planned.
I've been concerned about this for some time now. I remember some Valve rep saying how much the company admired the Wii, but have heard nothing since.
And the fact that the Orange Box is being released on the PS3 and 360 didn't seem good. But even if HL2 was released on the Wii, I'd still buy it on PC. It's a PC game imo.
Some new ideas would be great. Valve are one of the very best developers around these days and if they can get to grips with the Wii it should be awesome.
I can think of some cool things that could be done on the Wii by Valve. One of my favourite ideas is a Wii counterstrike that connects via steam to play against PC users. Which is better anyways? a mouse or a wii remote? We would find out for sure then

Mouse+keyboard EASILY!
I use a PC and Wii, but atm the Wii really isnt accurate enough (Judging on red steel and COD3)

For accuracy, imo... Mouse>wiimote>control pads
Correct, but I've been reading the first reviews of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption that are starting to drip in (IGN amongst others). And it seems the controls on that game are spot on, the only drawback apparently being that your 180 degrees turns are slow.
So if they could get that sorted out as well, I think a game like Team Fortress 2 with its cartoon style graphics would lend itself perfectly to the Wii!
This is great news. Valve are one of my favourite developers, and if they can get something developed for Wii, no doubt it'll be great. I'm kinda thinking that as good as Ep2 and co (TF2 especially) will be on Wii, I'd always get it on PC - it's just a PC game. But good luck to 'em, hopefully they'll end up being as good at making Wii games as Nintendo.

great idea! agree with gothchild though! accuracy might be off. but worth a try!
