Neo Geo games target VC in September

In Japan at least, the rest of the world will have to wait...
New games from the Neo Geo console will be making their way to the Japanese Virtual Console from September, SNK has confirmed.

The arrival of the new format on the Wii retro download service will kick off on September 11 with beat-'em-up, Fatal Fury, followed later that month by another fighter, World Heroes, and scrolling action game Magician Lord. Neo Geo games will cost 900 Wii Points (£6.75).

There's currently no word on when the Neo Geo format will arrive on the UK Virtual Console.

The addition of the format will, however, bring with it a long list of amazing 2D fighting and shoot-'em-ups, so it's time to get your hands on that sweet Wii arcade stick from Hori.

If they are already releasing the Neo Geo games what do they plan to do about the fact that most people are already out of room on their wiis?

All they would have to do is a simple firmware update allowing the use of sd cards for storing/running games. A simple firmware update to support usb flash sticks would work wonders too.

Is this in the works? Hopefully as I wont be able to DL any neo geo games with the room I have.

Samurai Shodown!
JVC on 31 Aug '07
Samurai Shodown kicked ass, so did Super Sidekick back in the day.

The question is, will an endless list of 2D fighters satisfy gamers these days? I'm not convinced.

Prices are a bit steep, i mean Fatal Fury Special out next week no XBLA is 400 points (Ł3.40) Ł3 cheaper than the wii versions and with added extras...drop the prices Nintendo!

You can buy memory cards for Wii can't you? Or did I just dream it? (Wouldn't be the first time like.)

Neo Geo would be cool. What I want to know is when Game Boy, Game Boy Colour and Game Boy Advance games are going to be available.

The NES version of Kid Icarus is rubbish in camparison to the GB one! I'd also like a chance to get to grips with the Zelda Orcale games, as they kind of passed me by.

Yes, but you can't run the games from them. So you have to store them on the card, then transfer them back across to the Wii drive when you want to play them. Which is a lot of hassle for something so easily fixed.

If you could run them directly from the SD cards, that'd be a massive improvement. Or even better, if they released an exernal HD.

Really? That's well annoying.

I agree, It was something I expected it to do from day 1. Please Nintendo, make the games run from SD Cards.

I am very happy about this NeoGeo news though as Baseball Stars 2, Viewpoint and Samurai Showdown will be great!

Viewpoint was ace.

I'll bet Metal Slug won't be making appearances any time soon as they've just released the compilation on Wii..

I cant see them games running from sd cards. Its perhaps an easy thing to do but Nintendo wont want to risk it from a piracy point of view.

Would it takes piraters much to be able to add several VC games to a blank sd card and start selling them on ebay? I dont think so.

So what is stopping them from pirating the games and offering them on SD cards for you to move on to your wii?

Whats stopping them from copying the disks themselves and selling those on ebay?

Do you honestly think all Nintendo customers should be punished because a few people are pirates, and will always be no mater what you do?

Whats stopping anyone from using google to see if it's possible!

I think it's just part of their security and something I expected, but seriously how do you fill your Wii up so quickly, there has only been about a handfull of games great enough to pay over the odds for rather than use PC-emulation etc.

Pretty easily. I've only downloaded a handful of games and the internal memory is nearly full. Can't fit much more on there.

I have a Neo Geo MVS, Very Happy bit more expensive than VC though. Smile

Nintendo aren't stupid, you cannot copy VC games to an SD card and expect them to work on another Wii. They use a similar idea to the one Microsoft employ for the 360 to stop people copying XBLA games, which is that the VC games are assigned to your console when you download them. Copy-protected. Job done.
