Mercenaries 2 delayed

Pandemic's sequel slips to a 2008 release - an official reason why is yet to be divulged
Pandemic's Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is to miss its 2007 release and has been pushed into next year, CVG has learned.

An official reason for the delay has not yet emerged from the mouth of the game's publisher, EA.

Mercenaries 2 is in development for PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS3 and, after Pandemic's success with the first game, we're hoping for an impressive action experience from the follow-up.

The game, says Pandemic, "is an explosive open-world action game set in a massive, highly reactive, war-torn world". The storyline revolves around a power-hungry tyrant who "messes with Venezuela's oil supply, sparking an invasion that turns the country into a warzone."

Yeah, it might be quite good, and it's not going for the exclusivity bullplop so cool, I can have a look at it on PC.

There is however a ton of other stuff before Christmas, so I don't know if I'd notice it. After Christmas might make for better sales as it won't be competing against all the MASSIVE games.

Good move from EA I think. This looks like an enjoyable game but it would easily get overlooked if released this year.

Hmmm... 3 guesses what the delay reason is. PS3 difficulties, no doubt.

You sure it's not just EA saying "We're making a game. We know you bitches will wait, because we own you. Get used to it, there's nothing you can do." like they do? Smile

More like 360 difficulties. The Devs are finding it hard to fit the game on a DVD.

Sorry to break the news to you but EA focus their attention on 360 when developing multi-format games. Thats why the 360 versions have better framerates etc...
Also, its unlikely its down to PS3 difficulties. They are simply doing what many other developers are doing, realising how packed this fall is with great games and understand if they want their game to have the attention they were expecting, the only choice to to delay until next year.

There's the problem then, they're developing the PS3 version twice

Nah don't think so. It must be because of the 360 and the small DVD size. It must be Laughing ! But really yeah good point too many great games this year but spring 2008 is also now looking very hot

Considering that Mercenaries 2 started off as a PS3 game, and was a PS3 exclusive until EA stepped into the ring, it is improbable that the result is PS3 delays. The game was months ahead on the PS3 before X360 development even started.

Strange that if it was ever a PS3 exclusive, why in the early dev video diaries did they hint at it coming out on 360 by having 360's in the background? Also when they demo the game it's always on a 360....

Seriously though, I really don't think it's down to PS3 or 360 slowing down development time. We have barely seen anything of the game since E3, which to me says it's a little way off being complete. I had a feeling it'd be delayed, was really looking forward to the Co-op though Sad

Because the levels are going to be big, it must mean it can't fit on DVD, right? I guess you never played Just Cause. Procedural Synthesis - look it up, and shut up.

I'm not defending the 360 - I'm just correcting your flawed knowledge. The game should have been delayed anyway - graphically it was last-gen, and would have been low on peoples lists this Christmas.

The game was ANNOUNCED on the PS3, it wasn't developed first for the PS3. Sony probably paid the developers to keep their mouths shut initially about the fact the game isn't even exclusive. Similar to how Assassins Creed was officially announced on the PS3 first (it was unofficially announced as a work-in-progress on the 360 some 8-10 months earlier). It's probably being developed on the PC or the 360 as the primary platform, purely for cost reasons.
