PS3 owners will be able to blast their way through one level of Stranghold in a demo hitting the PSN later today.
Update: The Stranglehold demo has gone live in the US PS Store only, not the European one. A UK date is yet to be set. Update ends.
Just like the Xbox 360 demo which went live a month ago, you'll take control of Inspector Tequila (Chow Yun Fat) and his duel-wield guns and go on a killing spree in the massively destructible Hong Kong marketplace level.
It will give a fair taster of all the table-diving mechanics as you leap over market stools to dodge bullets, and slide down rails on staircases - Sonic the Hedgehog-style - while firing off rounds from your two pistols.
A PC is also on the way, but an exact date is yet to be set.
Hmmm, nice. I have both the 360 and PS3 so I was wondering which version to go for. I've already pre-ordered the 360 version, after enjoying the excellent demo, but if the PS3 version is better (a big 'if') then I'll cancel that and pre-order the other version instead. Stranglehold uses the Unreal Engine 3 which so far hasn't been running very well on the PS3 so it'll be interesting to see how the games compare... it's silky-smooth on the 360 although not terribly impressive visually.
I know the US version of PS3 Stranglehold comes with Hard Boiled in hi-def on the game disc, does anyone know if this will be the case for the UK version. If the games play identically and look the same visually then that would sway me onto the PS3 version even though I've got the Collector's Edition ordered for the 360.
Great I can see which version to buy now although the god awful PS pad is putting me of the PS3 version.
It's not that bad but I confess I do prefer the Xbox 360 controller with its superior analogue sticks (and placement) and those excellent triggers. Also I like to feel rumble in my games. Hmmm... on reflection I might stick with the 360 version after all...

yes the same applies to the UK release.
Oh and i think the only games an xbox pad is better than a PS3 pad is for an FPS. PS pads have always been better for 3rd person/fighting/footy games
Maybe that was true when comparing the PS2 pad with the Xbox's Controller S but the Xbox 360 has exactly the same button mappings as the PS2 controller including four shoulder buttons so that is no longer the case.
In my opinion, the PS3's SIXAXIS pad has weak triggers that stupidly curve out instead of it, meaning that it's too easy for your fingers to slip off them after a prolonged session plus they're also slightly uncomfortable. Also the analogue sticks are a little too loose for my liking and poorly placed on the controller. It's a shame that Sony didn't put as much effort into the controller as they did the rest of the PS3, what was a perfect design six years ago now feels fairly ordinary.

i agree the 360s is better, the sixaxis is still a good controller. the only gripe i have about it is the triggers can be slightly annoying. they seem perfect for some things (crouching etc) and useless for others (acceleration.) also the lack of rumble.
360s controller isnt perfect either though, terrible D pad and i find the shoulder buttons very uncomfortable.

The 360 pads beat the PS pads hands down, good point about the triggers, you slip off them too easily and its a bummer in racing games and I grew up with PS pads too but the 360 was designed much better in my opinion.
I was really looking 4ward to Stranglehold but i didnt think much of the demo, espcially after play bioshock all week!!.. & you can tell it been in development for awhile as the graphics really dont look that hot, gameplay was ok, but i wasn't blown away (get it).. this will be a second hand purchase 4 me.
Pad wars, 360 controller is the best for driving games, FPS & for people who actually want to feel like they arent holding thin air!, put rumble in there & its deffo the best controller....
Ive got a Xbox 360 and a PS3 but I was swaying towards the Ps3 version because of the free Bluray film that comes with the Ps3 version. That is to say if that wasn't just a rumor. I'm also swaying towards the PS version because I'm assuming the picture will be sharper and clearer.
Sony made the controller what they are now because if they didnt make it the s**tbox controller wouldnt be a controller at all
and the demo isnt up on any stores jap us uk HK all of eu
I think you'll find the Sega saturn is the one the 360 & PS2/3 should be thanking, they were the 1st ones to have a controller with dual analogue triggers & an analogue stick!, it came with Nights as a package & @ the time was fcuking awesome!... so jog on, FANBOY!...(muppet)
CHRIST!!! you PS3 owners are argessive!, you'd think CVG had just punched ur nan in the face!!!... it's only a demo!.....then again if someone had starved me for 3 months then teased me with throwing me a crumb, id be pretty p**sed off!!! hahahahah
1) For God's sake take the controller idiocy somewhere else. There's no objective measure of whether a controller is 'better' so you're all wasting your time.
2) The US also got Tekken 5 online and some new wallpapers. Europe got the shaft. Surprise!
Well the US PS Store has the Stranglehold demo (and NBA Live 08 as well) so, as per usual, we Europeans miss out again which really is quite poor when Microsoft manage to realise demos in the US and Europe simultaneously.
I downloaded both demos and although both games are excellent and exactly the same as the 360 versions in terms of content (I own both machines so I can compare them), the PS3 versions are slightly inferior. Stranglehold has a few minor framerate hiccups, mainly in the cinematics, and the anti-aliasing is poorer, a common issue with most PS3 games. NBA Live 08 apparently runs at 60 fps like the 360 version but didn't feel as slick to me plus there doesn't appear to be any anti-aliasing so it looks rougher. I suppose PS3 owners won't care or know anyway but, for me, I'm sticking with the 360 versions for that extra layer of visual polish.
oh i no tht now cos ive downloaded them and played em, stranglehold is superb and looks worthy of buying, but can get a little messy and cluttered sometimes
i meant oh please to ur statement about xbox providing that extra layer of visual polish
