PES 2008: more licenses than ever before

A huge step forward for the series says Konami
Brazil, Portugal, Greece, Scotland and Ireland are among the new officially licensed National teams on offer in PES 2008.

The roster of licensed club teams has also been bolstered, with Newcastle, Tottenham, RSC Anderlecht, HJK Helsinki, IFK Goteborg, Panathinaicos, Spartak Moscow, Fenerbache, NK Dinamo Zagreb and FC Basel added to the ranks.

PES 2008 is said to now feature over 3000 licensed players realistically replicated within the game, and over 250 teams.

"Konami has worked hard to bolster the number of licensed clubs in PES 2008, and the new additions represent a huge step forward for the series," said Konami. "We listen very closely to what people want from the series, and hope these new additions further extend PES 2008's reputation within both die-hard football fans and newcomers alike."

No Leicester City? bah
shellster2 on 6 Sep '07
Hopefully it has the editor so this time I can actually play with a team called Liverpool.
DaRockwilder1 on 6 Sep '07
October is the date Konami's throwing around at the moment.
CVG Gav on 6 Sep '07
Hopefully they'll get the Portsmouth licence so I can finally play as Pompey, not "Pompy" lol
suchthef00l on 6 Sep '07
Konami only have the licence for two premiere league teams.

I would think that there is a full editor in the game (unlike that 360 one I hated that so bad)the naming of teams and players doesn't worry me, I quite enjoy the process of renaming players, teams, and as normal with pes I have to move players from team to team that they haven't done the full transfer update.

I would like to know how Football Manager gets to name Players, Staff, in the premiership, is it down to the fact there are no faces so there there are no likenesses

I think so, yes. Most of the licencing problems comes from the kits not players as far as I'm aware. Could be wrong though
mfnick on 6 Sep '07
Spurs and Newcastle the two licensed teams from England, eh? That's definitely an improvement... Evil or Very MadEvil or Very MadEvil or Very Mad
MGS2010 on 6 Sep '07
Pro Evo can only have two english licensed teams at a time, its down to a deal FIFA has with the premiership which says that they have everything, players, kits and stadiums, but for some strange reason they allowed their competition 2 licensed english clubs at a time, dont ask me why!

But things lik this really do suck ass, like look what happened in america with madden and ea, many thought 2k's game had better gamelay but without proper teams and names its doing terrible, good thing we have all the other leagues and the edit mode cause otherwise no casual gamers would buy it and we'd be screwed!

I Just hope to god this is better than the 360 version of PES 6. That was terrible.
Anyone who played the PS2 version will agree with me on that

Agree with you to a certain degree. I hated it with a passion when I first got it but eventually got used too it. It still manages to frustrate and delight in equal measures but I'm hoping for a more 'complete' version this time around.

I think some of it was down to the fact that it's the first time I'd played it on another platform, or to be more precise, a different control pad. I used to use d-pad but with the 360 the analouge is much easier to use.

Anyway's Konami still made a half bottomd attempt to bring it to 360 last time and hopefully they won't repeat the mistake. *crosses fingers*

That's what I only found about the other day, so they're hardly "building" on the license are they?
deadmartyr on 6 Sep '07
the team names dont bother me because u can edit this but im not gonna sit there doing players names.and why dont they get the team lineups right the transfer window is now closed so theres no excuse for players in last season squads still a great game though release it earlier though so it can s**t all over fifa! Confused
dwhlufc on 6 Sep '07
I play online more than I do offline, so editting and/or patches are of no use. It's a pain that Pro Evo is held back by EA's control of the licenses but hey, that's capitalism for you.

Were we to edumicate the hoi peloi, then maybe they'd stop throwing money at EA and buy quality, rather than comfort.
csdaveuk on 6 Sep '07
Pro evo has such a large fanbase that it will do well on that basis but if they release a game like pro evo 6 again i might not be a fan anymore - or just go back to the old games

Will there ever be a PES game with more british leagues than just the Premiership?

I want Sheffield Wednesday damnit! Twisted Evil
mfnick on 7 Sep '07
I know so little about football that it really doesn't matter to me whether it's got authentic names or not! Laughing

It's Sensible World Of Soccer I'm really looking forward to anyway - now that's going to bring back memories... Wobble Bottoms FTW! Pavarotti was legendary in goal for me... Cool

FC Basel

Laughing
Moby_696 on 7 Sep '07
TBH i would rather play a better quality football game with little or no licencing than a game of poorer quality with full licencing. After playing the FIFA 08 demo i can say right now its still of poorer quality and seems the same as 07 with even worse perfomance.

The minimal licencing really doesnt bother me that much as the editor takes care of all that, although it does take time to do if you dont get a superpatch of some sort.
pR!M8 on 7 Sep '07
download the liscensing patch and it is business as usual!!!!!!!!!!!
